600 of the 647 tickets issued were to people going 15 mph or more over the speed limit. Some were as much 25 over. State troopers do not overlook anybody going over 15. I don't know where you get the idea that they are lenient that way. Maybe in the 7-10 mph over but hardly ever at 15+. Try it yourself sometime. Go ahead and set your cruise control at 70 on 285 sometimes past a Trooper and let us all know how it goes for you. I know a number of Jeffco sheriff, they ping you at 12 most of the time.

Joe wrote: I think I remember him saying if I was doing 50 he would have had to give me a ticket, I guess for 15 over, something about it was already locked into the computer. No discretion.

No discretion for 15 over? That pretty much jives with Morrisons numbers eh?

I've tried it myself before Fish - few years back I got popped by a Trooper coming down 93 about midnight or so coming back from watching a deaf comic perform for the class I was taking doing 80+ in my Fiero. I looked into the rearview, saw the bubble gums light up, pulled over, turned the car off, turned the interior lights on, put both hands on the steering wheel and waited for the Trooper to come to the window. "Know how fast you were going?" "Yes Trooper - wasn't paying attention and looked down when I saw you go by me." After running my license, checking my registration and insurance he came back up to the car and asked me a question. "If I give you a warning, does that mean you are free to speed up and down this highway at any speed you want?" I replied, "No Trooper, it means that you decided not to make my life miserable for being stupid." No ticket and away I went.

Couple years back I got stopped on my way to work by one of Park County's finest doing 70+ in a 55. Pulled over when I saw the lights go on as the Deputy was turning around to come chase me, turned the car off, put both hands on the steering wheel and waited in that position until the Deputy came to the window. Same result - no ticket.

Lucky? Yeah, I'd say so - but I also do what I need to do to let them know they are safe. I pull over in an area which protects them when they are outside the vehicle and I conduct myself in such a way as to show them the respect that they are entitled to for the job they do. I don't make excuses, I don't give them attitude, I don't act impatient. I tell them I was in the wrong and thank them regardless of what their decision ends up being.

And just so you know I don't live a charmed life - I got stopped by a Denver cop doing 6 over the limit in a construction zone. Double the fines in a construction zone don't you know - got a ticket that time.

I'm not complaining, don't feel entitled - just recognize reality, that's all. You won't find a Morrison cop setting up shop in an area where the speed is constant, or increasing from what it was - only in areas where the speed limit drops off from what it was - and then always very close to the area where the sign designating the drop in speed is situated because the sign designates the exact spot at which you must, according to the letter of the law, be traveling the speed shown on the sign. Ever seen them sitting near the water treatment plant on Morrison Road just to the east side of the C470 bridge? Speed limit drops from 55 to 35 over maybe a couple hundred feet in that area. You have to hit the brakes to slow down that quickly - can't simply coast down and make the signs. Another good thing about that particular spot is that the speed limit is 35 mph headed east on Morrison Road after the C470 bridge. No speed limit signs at all are in evidence from the time you exit C470 until you see one that says 55 mph. If you are foolish enough to believe that this is the speed between C470 and that sign, it's actually 35 as designated by the last sign leaving the town of Morrison until you reach that sign. I wonder how many of those 15 mph infractions are written there, don't you?
