nice.....an apology without blaming the victim or claiming that he had stooped to the level of the "other side".....no excuses, just taking responsibility for what he said.

Or look at Letterman's apology.

Maher didn't attribute a lifestyle to Palin with his comments. Rush did claim Fluke had "so much sex I don't know how she was able to walk to hearings." Maher called Palin an offensive word that is harsher than calling her a b**ch. The word he called her didn't falsely equate her lifestyle choices as to make it appear she's loose or easy in giving out sexual favors.

Rush also didn't explain or correct himself about misstatements he made about how birth control pills work. I guess he doesn't want to admit he thought women took them like Viagra. You'd think after four wives, he'd know by now.

Actually also made crude insinuations about more than one Palin daughter, private citizens.

Oh, you mean like Rush calling 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton the White House dog?

I really can't believe that this thread has gone through 16 pages of back and forth Tu quoque... Maher said this, Letterman said that, Rush didn't really apologize, Schultz is classy... on and on and on. Look folks... Rush was horribly wrong on this issue, wrong on using the language he did to describe this woman. No matter what your position is on the issues this woman was representing... you don't call her a slut. And Rush's apology, no matter how sincere he may have claimed it was... was still full of "buts." I listened to his attempt to explain himself... it was 15 seconds of "I'm sorry" and then a half hour of recapping his opinions on her and medical insurance coverage of reproductive services. A real apology would have stopped after the first 15 seconds. Rush has 15 hours a week to harp on various subjects.... his timing stunk.

You want to complain about other personalities and their indiscretions... then start another thread. But you're being dishonest trying to deflect with "he said this too." No amount of that sort of debate is going to change the facts. Grow up and accept that Rush blew it this time. And those of you on the left. Go ahead and have some fun... Rush deserves it and I don't blame you for all the venom being dumped on him. But he's not going anywhere. Bottom line, Rush is big business, there are millions of dollars and thousands of jobs across the radio business that rely on his "existence." It doesn't come down to politics, follow the money. He knows, the business knows, the executives and advertisers in waiting know that this will pass.

The problems with Rush's choice of words should be obvious. What I want to know is do the conservatives here share or support Rush's sentiment? Is this offensive enough to make you stop listening to his show? Does continuing to listen to Rush necessarily make the listener a misogynist as well?

I stopped watching Maher years ago because while I found him to occassionally be hilarious, more often he was crass, insulting, and arrogant about his opinions. At times, I felt he went way too far.

Likewise, we've now seen Rush go way too far multiple times...will any conservatives stop listening to him? In many ways, Rush built this whole ultra partisan sensationalized disrespecting hack pundit genre that I believe has contributed nothing positive to society. His show has only served the public by breeding disdain and hatred for anyone who sees things a bit differently than his vision of conservatism. Aren't people finally fed up with this arrogant blowhard?

Seriously, someone tells me they're a Rush fan anymore and I will have to believe they simply do not respect women as equals..

Lighten up Francis! Can you name anyone you agree with 100%? Personally I am a fiscal conservative, not a social one, so when Rush goes into a culture warrior rant, I just move on to another station. Doesn't mean I hate women.

Think Thomas Jefferson having sex with slaves undermines his ideas? How about Bill Clinton having sex with interns?

Actually, yes, to both of your questions. Is your attitude about Rush kind of like saying Obama might have agreed with Ayers on some things, but not everything? And this whole "fiscal conservative" claim holds NO water anymore. Republicans believe "deficits don't matter", remember? Stand up, find your spine, denounce Rush as the sleeze misogynist he is and stop passively supporting his hateful pollution of the airwaves. Otherwise, your association may speak louder about who you are than your own words do.

It must be dull and lonely to live life with only infallible people. There was a thread a few months ago about who you would not invite to a dinner party. Some people wanted only nice, calm, people, and others like me, wanted to mix up people with radically different opinions.
