Its not as simple as saying "no cuts", just throw money at the country. Greece, for example is corrupt, wasteful, non-productive, full of tax evasion and has a 50% underground cash economy. Austerity means both budget cuts and increased taxes, some of the posters claim to be against it, but then for it? Do you all know what the word means? They simply have too much debt to service with rising interest costs and no printing press to make free money.
France has a little better chance with a better economy. Vive la France!
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

It's because there's solid historic evidence that socialism fails to improve the standard of living every time....yet some people are too stupid to understand and see this fact with open eyes. The US became the gold standard for standard of living and economic prosperity because of capitalism, plain and simple.
This bozo in France wants a 75% tax on the wealthy...I hope that is higher...like 90% so the country crashes even faster. That way even the most ignorant in our country may finally understand.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

The scary part being that some of the most ignorant will choose not to understand.

Sounds like France has returned to it's norm- Socialism. Good for them. No- what happens in France does not affect us very much, this has been a basically stagnant country for 3 decades now.
The French are best at sitting around in cafes- drinking coffee and eating croissants- while the rest of the world works.
Now hopefully this is a trend- back to the norm. France gets Socialism back- and we get capitalism back- it would be a fair trade.

LJ- austerity is the only thing that actually works in the end. Is it painful- you bet it is. Austerity not only needs to pay back the excess spending of governments- but it must include the interest on top of that.
If France backs off the cuts in government- it will only prolong the pain, instead of getting it over with. The fun times are over for France, Spain, Italy- and the USA. The sooner they (and we) make the spending cuts - the sooner each country can return to some resemblance of prosperity.
For Europe- prosperity has a different definition. Socialist policy virtually assures that no one except the very rich will get ahead. My cousins in Europe realize this- the most they can hope for is better handouts from the government.
But what has been a socialist plague in Europe is now the new reality here in the USA. We have spent and borrowed ourselves into a situation not unlike those stagnant economies in Europe. And the hole we have dug for ourselves is even deeper than european socialists could have hoped for.
There is no way out without austerity- for them and for us. We simply could never afford this level of government spending - and the sooner we acknowledge this fact- the better off we are. Europe has acknowledged this fact- and we have yet to do so.
We will either do so by choice- or because have have no other options left. Our day is coming.

Everything you say makes good sense.
I am reading Krugman this morning and he still insists he is right and that there needs to be more stimulus. And so many people still believe this. I fall over in disbelief.
All you have to do is look at France and how the people voted. They still want their cake and eat it too. Hopefully they fall apart fast so that USA can see that they are travelling the same road over a cliff.
