If he doesn't respond with focused force to apprehend the combatants, he's sunk.

If we go by the way the right has responded to him taking their other suggestions, they'll turn pacifist and insist we pack the filmmakers up to be shipped to a strict Muslim country for punishment.

It might actually cost him votes rather than gain him any. Sending in 50 Marines to guard the soil of these United States now only reinforces his lack of foresight and planning prior to now despite his wish to be seen as a forward thinking kind of guy. The fact that Islamist extremists could plan and execute the attack on the anniversary of another attack by Islamic extremists while this president and his administration remained wholly in the dark doesn't speak well to his remarks earlier in the day regarding our being safer now than ever.
I find myself wondering just how safe it is going to be to open up the observation area on the inside of the Statue of Liberty when our intelligence operations weren't able to uncover 2 separate attacks on our embassies before the attacks happened.
I wonder about the wisdom of having hired Libyan security to provide for the safety of our ambassador and others when members of our military are being killed on a regular basis by supposedly "friendly" forces in that region of the world.
I wonder how it is that Egyptian and Libyan security forces essentially stood by and allowed the desecration of our soil and acts of war to occur without taking any actions to stop them after this union and this president did so much to help them gain their freedom from a repressive government and sent so much of our borrowed funds their way. Wasn't it just a few days ago that we forgave a substantial debt that Egypt owed us?
I wonder how it is that the staff at the Egyptian embassy had enough warning to mostly vacate the premises but that there wasn't enough warning to provide for securing the embassy from being overrun and our flag from being taken down on our soil.
But most of all, I'm disturbed by the rumors that someone on the inside is the one who facilitated the attack on the ambassador from our union to that nation. That would mean that not only is it possible that the government of Libya participated in the attack, it means that we can't sift through the people that we are hiring to protect our citizens and our embassies with a fine enough sieve to catch someone who wants to do us harm before they have the chance to do so. Doesn't inspire much confidence in our intelligence operations these days, does it?
And yet, we are supposed to have the view that this president's foreign policies have been an overwhelming success? That our standing in the world is much better now than it was 4 years ago? Is that the message we are supposed to be taking away from the acts which occurred yesterday?
At least we know that Obama means what he says, that we will hunt down these terrorists and bring them to justice....just bin Laden how serious Obama is.

If he did something presidential his whole base would abandon him.

You mean like Biden using campaign rhetoric "GM is still here and Ben Laden is not?" I wonder how much of the Obama administration "spiking of the Ben Laden ball" has angered the radicals in Egypt and Libya?
Actually, I think if we want to see "un-presidential behavior", all we have to do is watch the incompetence of RMoney over the last 18 hours... Pure textbook poetry...

President Barack Obama’s Wednesday afternoon speech in Las Vegas is being delayed by about 45 minutes, according to the White House. Obama had been scheduled to speak at 5:25 p.m. at a campaign rally at the Cashman Center in downtown Las Vegas. He will now deliver his speech at 6:10 p.m., according to an updated schedule released Wednesday morning. The president was forced to alter his schedule to comment on a Tuesday attack on the American Embassy in Libya that killed four people, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, the White House Press Office said. No other event details have changed, ...

Good point  Not to mention the many times Obama has let everyone know how he was instrumental in Bin Ladens death (by making the decision anyone would have made from his cozy office)
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
If people were not dead it would be amusing watching the left trying to find a line of attack that will help Obama and hurt Romney.
