In the most recent issue of Consumer Reports is a long-use review of several LED light bulbs (including the two that I've endorsed on the previous page in this thread, and here : the Eco Bulbs from Home Depot: $9.99 for the 40 watt equivalent and $25 for the 65 watt equivalent flood used in can lights). The conclusion: they pay for themselves in 2-3 years time, are still burning after 8 or more years equivalent of normal use, and haven't lost any of their brightness or quality color representation through decay of the light they produce.

TPP, sorry, I missed your last post before now. There's no proven causation between lower light levels and loss of vision that I know of (from a personal endorsement: my eyesight has been crappy since I was in 3rd grade and we've always had lots of light growing up because my Dad was born both color-blind and with cataracts so he needed it brighter to be able to see (he couldn't drive at night at all). Since in my kitchen we have 4 cans on each of the 2 switches (8 lights total), the difference between 240 watts and 160 watts (or 480 watts and 320 watts) is not noticeable in terms of having plenty of light to see, but does make a difference in our energy bill!

SunPower, solar stocks surge after Warren Buffett buys Calif. plants
By Tiffany Hsu
January 3, 2013

Solar stocks were burning up Thursday, led by a 41% share price boom for SunPower, which this week said it sold a pair of massive Southern California solar power plants to a Warren Buffett company.

The projects, located in Kern and Los Angeles counties, will together form the largest permitted solar photovoltaic power development in the world, according to SunPower.

The SunPower deal, worth as much as $2.5 billion, sent solar stocks on a tear.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
