THE NUTS COME OUT!

NRA Press Conference: Wayne LaPierre Calls For Armed Police Officers At Every School

So, I just watched the most profound 30-minute display of insanity I think I've ever seen. The only thing missing was Louie Gohmert swinging from a trapeze, half-naked, holding an AR-15...

God, I love it. If anything has EVER had the exact reverse effect on the American people of what the perpetrators had in mind, this Press Conference was it.

 Jus' keep doin' what yer doin' .....

The best thing for the NRA to do was to just stay quiet.
Video games? Just like guns 99% of people are fine playing violent video games.
In trying to protect the 2nd amendment, they are willing to trash many others.

Sorry that you live in a state of denial but this should have been done 13 years ago.

Since we are discussing insanity, I would expect you to say that...

Easier and cheaper still let the teachers who have ccw and are trained carry. They're right there. Works for Utah and Texas...

Mental health was also discussed, but this is interesting, while some people say there isn't enough mental care out there, a record amount of Americans are on prescriptions for drugs to deal with psychiatric issues like depression.

Maybe the wrong kind of mental care? Pay your co-pay, I will write you a script and send you out the door.

That's a tough one. I believe we do need some serious work on the mental health system. But you bring up a great point - where to draw the line and how to determine ahead of time if someone is capable of becoming so violent that they need to be hospitalized for treatment? There's a huge amount of work to be done in that area, and it won't be easy.

Considering that we haven't lost a child from fire for over 50 years mostly due to fire prevention Why not spend some money on active shooter prevention?

With locked doors and this on the windows it would be pretty hard to gain entry and would buy some time for the either the kids to evacuate to safer more secure area or until law enforcement arrives on scene.

Kids already have buss passes why not make them access cards as well that only work during school hours and certain areas of the school. There are already fire doors that can be locked remotely. Access cards can be used on those doors for people that need to be in those areas. There are lots of things that can be done to minimize or eliminate the threat. Trouble is that we don't want to spend the money. Of course then there are those that will say the school will be like a prison that way. I work in a building that has many of these features and unless you really look for them they are pretty non invasive and invisible to most visitors. Some have noticed the security measures and often compliment on our facilites department for taking such care to implement them. In times of layoffs we also hire of duty sheriff deputies to be visible inside the building to add an an extra presence.

Criminals will always use "gun free zones" as target practice before all others. Nobody has a problem with cops guarding money in banks, buut foor some reason children are not as valuable a commodity. Ask the parents of those murdered children what they think about school security and I'll bet you don't find many unhinged LJs who believe more laws will protect more kids.

And ask yourselves this question, what chance do unarmed men, women and children have in any building that's been breached by a maniac with a weapon? I say they have nothing other than some luck and some hope.
