NRA Conference: LaPierre Calls for Armed Cops every school

When people mention Columbine remember the entire "active shooter" procedure has changed, because of Columbine. No longer do law enforcement sit back, access the situation, wait for the Swat team or the go ahead from higher ups. They now immediately react; form teams if possible and go towards the shooter. Feinstein's argument no longer holds water. Had the current procedures been in place at the time it is likely the loss of life would have been much less.

A LOT of things have changed...And are GOING to change.

And it is just as likely that NOTHING would have made any difference.

If that lj has her way we will be like sitting duck first graders when our way to defend ourselves is taken away. also makes it easy for the guvment to take our rights away since in her world we will have no guns.

Gee, that's a great fear-smear...But it's a lie...

But thanks for playing.

The NRA's Emperor Has No Clothes

The numbers are clear: An ever-smaller proportion of Americans own guns, but Americans who do own guns are buying ever more of them. Meanwhile, gun ownership is breaking down along ever-sharper partisan lines, exacerbating the sort of self-reinforcement and lack of perspective that comes with any sort of political self-segregation. This is how you end up with comments from rank and file gun owners this week that are hardly less clueless than what LaPierre said today, such as this retort from a North Carolina man, a local police officer, in today's Washington Post: "I don’t think I should have to give up my Bushmaster because a guy flipped out and killed a bunch of babies.”

Today, the reality was exposed for all to see, and it was hard to watch.

Getting to my point about lunatics. Look no further than this thread.

Some people want the Government to make them feel perfectly safe. Those people live in a fantasy land. There are very few absolutes in the real world. Absolutes are for those who live in a fantasy world. Essentially, liberals.

I think they should issue those that need this sort of reassurance some tin foil hats. LJ, what is your hat size?

Haven't you heard... Nobody makes "tin" foil any more...

This is funny partisan crap like usual. When Bill Clinton recommended armed school guards the press applauded. Wayne? Derided.

You heard it here first folks. The liberals, led by LJ, are ordering that the element Tin is to be stricken from all Periodic Charts. "We aren't making tin anymore".

Tin is a chemical element with symbol Sn (for Latin: stannum) and atomic number 50. It is a main group metal in group 14 of the periodic table.

No, you heard it first from Martin, who likes to spout off his anal comeback anytime tin-foil is mentioned... That's the best you've got for your LJ-Derangement-Syndrome today? :rofllol

But thanks for playing. Your pathetic childish comebacks are always mildly entertaining...

Wayne LaPierre Speech Was A Total Public Relations Disaster, Say PR Experts

Public relations experts who have experience working with the gun industry expressed horror on Friday afternoon at the National Rifle Association's response to the Newtown, Conn., shootings.

The group's executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, struck a scolding tone on Friday, blaming the video game industry and media for exposing youth to a culture of violence, and calling for armed police or security guards in schools: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," LaPierre said.

Public relations professionals reached by The Huffington Post said the timing of his message, which broke a week of silence in the wake of the tragic murder of 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School, could be an irredeemable mistake for the group.

“It was worse than if the NRA had not spoken at all,” said Gene Grabowski, executive vice president of Levick Strategic Communications, a Washington, D.C.-based issues management firm that has worked with firearms manufacturers. "The same message about the culture in another time and place might have made sense, but in context of tragedy, it seemed mean-spirited, cold and misguided."

Grabowski also said the NRA made a mistake by remaining silent on its social media channels last week. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, the organization stopped activity on all of its Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts.

The NRA is under close scrutiny this week as the Sandy Hook shooting renews the political and social debate over gun-control laws. The organization is one of the nation's most powerful lobby groups, but its extreme policy positions don't jibe with all gun owners, many of whom support tighter gun-control laws, according to a survey from a prominent Republican pollster in July.
