NRA Conference: LaPierre Calls for Armed Cops every school

Funny what is seen as more dangerous as the times change. In the 50's the cheap pistols and revolvers were most dangerous. They are still the main guns used by bad guys for murders but now assault rifles are the villains because of a few high profile shootings. Remember Fort Hood? A couple of high capacity pistols.

Nice to see some of the GOTP SENATORS finally get some backbone...

So, this morning Kay Bailey Hutchinson just added her name to the list:

Manchin
Warner
Grassley
Brown
Kingston
Hutchinson

----

Oh, and that's on top of two of more conservative newspapers calling LaPierre "The Craziest Man on Earth", a "gun nut" and "NRA loon":

New York Post, New York Daily News Slam NRA's Wayne LaPierre

The New York Post and the New York Daily News tore into the National Rifle Association on Saturday for the gun lobby's bizarre press conference held in response to the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.

On Friday, the gun lobby broke its silence to comment on the Connecticut school shooting, which took the lives of 20 first-graders and six adults. In a widely-panned public appearance, NRA leader Wayne LaPierre blamed gun violence on everything from video games to the media, and advocated placing an armed officer in every school in America.

Responses ranged from disgust to disbelief.

The conservative New York Post, which called LaPierre a "gun nut" and "NRA loon" on its Saturday cover, may be taking its cues from its owner, Rupert Murdoch. In the wake of the shooting, Murdoch spoke out about the need for stricter gun control.

"Terrible news today," he tweeted. "When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons? As in Oz after similar tragedy."

Saturday's New York Daily News cover called LaPierre the "craziest man on earth." The tabloid also published a pro-gun control cover last Tuesday.

Wow, even top GOP pollster, Frank Luntz, thinks the NRA is bat-sh*t-crazy:

Frank Luntz, GOP Pollster: The NRA Isn't Listening With Proposal For Armed Guards At Schools

Frank Luntz, a top Republican strategist and pollster, said Wednesday that the National Rifle Association's recent calls for armed guards to be stationed at every school in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. massacre suggested the organization isn't listening to public opinion on the issue.

The public wants guns out of the schools, not in the schools, and they're not asking for a security official or someone else," Luntz said on CBS’s “This Morning,” responding to a proposal first floated by top NRA lobbyist Wayne LaPierre during a press conference last week.

"I don’t think the NRA is listening. I don’t think that they understand," Luntz continued. "Most Americans would protect the Second Amendment rights and yet agree with the idea that not every human being should own a gun, not every gun should be available at anytime, anywhere, for anyone. That at gun shows, you should not be able to buy something there and then without any kind of check whatsoever. What they're looking for is a common-sense approach that says that those who are law-abiding should continue to have the right to own a weapon, but that you don’t believe the right should be extended to everyone at every time for every type of weapon.

Luntz conducted a survey of gun owners both affiliated and unaffiliated with the NRA earlier this year, which found broad support for certain provisions that would restrict the sale of guns.

They still don't "get it."

David Gregory NBC news and Barack Obama send their kids to a school that has many armed guards. But you commoners don't need protection for your kids.

Yes, that would be correct... A President's children ALWAYS get Secret Service protection...And Gregory's kids happen to go to the same school...

Next irrelevant outrage-of-the-day?

In addition to the SS Sidwell has at least 8 private security guards.

SO?

A President's children ALWAYS get Secret Service protection...And Gregory's kids happen to go to the same school, and so would get the benefit of the same protection.

:Snooze

Putting armed guards in every school is about one of the most bat-sh*t-crazy suggestions the NRA has ever come up with. If they start a registry for the mentally-ill, LaPierre should be the first name on the list.

Bill Clinton liked the idea of armed guards in schools. Should he go to your mental health re-education camps too? Should Sidwell replace their armed guards with up to date textbooks?

Who pays for these guards? Our schools and cities are running on slim budgets already......Here in AZ they want to train and arm all the principals, the parents, as conservative as they are, and as gun friendly as this state is, are saying no way......only a professional police officer should be allowed to carry a firearm into a school.....they are trained not only on how to handle the fire arm, but on how to recognize different situations, diffuse possibly dangerous situations, and how to protect their weapon from it being taken from them. A Principal simply is not....nor would they have the time for the frequent retraining necessary. These are their kids, and they don't want amateurs doing the protecting, they want professionals. But, of course, there is no money for police in every school. So the legislature, in its infinite wisdom, wants to protect the kids on the cheap, and make principals into part time police.
