Interesting that you mention that it takes money to make money.
Would you apply that to large companies that are having their revenues diverted to the federal government?
In my mind, if they had that money, they could also create more jobs thus reducing the deficit and improving the economy.

Only in your mind would that translate to desiring a higher deficit and wanting bridges to nowhere. Logic is not exactly your strong sit.

:faint: Tax revenues are down. You want to increase spending, so how do you plan to do that without increasing debt levels? Who isn't logical?

Or are you saying the stimulus plans negotiated between Pelosi and Reid were more about fattening the wallets of their buddies than providing jobs for Americans?

There is an old financial saying....it takes money to make money.

Not to interupt your conversation but, I think that saying makes more sense when you use private money to make more private money. Using taxpayer money to pay for government programs isn't at all the same. One generates revenue that goes to the government, the other spends that revenue on more government and non-revenue generating activities.

Look at it as investing....the federal government should be investing in this country in those things that the states are either incapable of doing, or haven't the money to do.....like our military, and infrastructure, and universal healthcare, and new energy sources, and the list goes on. Now I know we disagree on some of those items.....but, that is the reason for my statement that I would have liked to see a larger stimulus package, as an investment in our country, that would stimulate the economy, and create more jobs......I really don't want to get into a long discussion on this.....I just wanted to set the record straight that I am NOT interested in raising the deficit......not am I interested in bridges to nowhere....I'll leave those to the Republicans.....and that Fred was wrong when he claimed to know what I was thinking.

...........and that is all I have to say about that.

You still haven't said where you are going to get more money for your increased stimulus. Want to increase taxes on businesses when the US already has the 2nd highest corporate taxes. Want to increase it on the rich?

So...my question to you is why couldn't large businesses invest that same money that has been diverted to the feds into alternative energy and many other programs the government is currently funding.
I do think that the government needs to maintain a military, provide disadvantaged people with potential opportunities to raise themselves up in life and other programs that the states cannot handle.
The biggest difference that I see in you and I archer is that you believe that the government should assume much larger roles in our life and I believe many of those roles should be handled by the private sector.
I personally do not believe that the government can effectively and efficiently handle health care for this nation.
From my perspective, they (both sides) can't even handle their own job descriptions in Washington .
They are not people I want controlling so much of my life......with all due respect.

Seems to be the very essence of Human Nature, tell someone they can't do something and they'll do what they were told not do. Think otherwise? Next time you are having a face to face conversation with someone in a public place say something along the lines of "...don't look behind you..." and see what happens.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
