Jefferson County students, upset over how their board of education redesigned a curriculum review committee, interrupted the school board's proceedings tonight by reading aloud from their history books. About 10 students either read out of turn about historical figures, known for acts of civil disobedience, at a podium or from their seats. Another dozen students also recited the Pledge of Allegiance before making a mass exit.
During the Nov. 6th meeting of the Jefferson County School Board, activists from JeffCo Students for Change - the student organization that has been organizing the ongoing student movement against the school board's attempts to sanitize the AP US History curriculum - deliver their 4 demands and attempt to address the board. Instead of listening to the students he ostensibly serves, school board president Ken Witt has the students removed by security, despite board member Lesley Dahlkemper's appeal to let them be heard.
GOLDEN — Jefferson County students, upset over how their board of education redesigned a curriculum review committee, interrupted the school board’s proceedings tonight by reading aloud from their history books.
About 10 students either read out of turn about historical figures, known for acts of civil disobedience, at a podium or from their seats. Another dozen students also recited the Pledge of Allegiance before making a mass exit.
All students left peacefully. No arrests were made.
As part of their demonstration, the students said they had four demands: a public apology from the school board’s conservative majority for referring to students as “union pawns;” a reversal of an earlier decision to amend content review policies; proof from the board that they listen and act on community input instead of what students called an “ideological” agenda; and more resources for classroom instruction.

After another group of students read aloud from history books and were escorted out, about a dozen students stood up in the packed meeting to read the pledge of allegiance. They then filed out.
Along with the students were “legal consultants,” law students taking descriptive notes of the scene. That didn’t please one security guard who lobbed several insults at the law students.
Standing in a circle outside the education building, a set of sprinklers suddenly came on. When the students moved out of the way, those sprinklers came on. The pattern repeated until all the sprinklers were on but the students didn’t leave. A security office came out and informed the group that they were trespassing.

I'm betting zero.PrintSmith wrote: What do you suppose the odds are that a few teachers that belong to the union helped the students organize their act of civil disobedience? I'm going for 90%+ . . .

What I did say was that I believed there was a high likelihood that they had help organizing their activities that likely came from one or more teachers belonging to the union. No one said, and I certainly didn't mean to imply, that the teachers were responsible for orchestrating the activity.
