Here are a couple wild and crazy thoughts.
1. Stop committing crimes, you might wind up dead.
2. From Baretta television show "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time."
I think Fred mentioned a Taser might of been a better choice over a gun. I'm no expert, but I wonder if a Taser would be effective in the confines of the officer's car? If a person getting "tazed" touches you, are you tazed too?
But from the officer's interview he didn't have a Taser with him anyway. Apparently the police department provides them, but they are not required and the officer felt it was too bulky and uncomfortable to carry with all the other stuff they have.
He did say he had either pepper spray or mace. Again, I've never used the stuff but it doesn't seem like a good idea to use it inside a car because you might also disable yourself from the vapors. But how about when the officer was outside the car? He already had Brown wounded and I wonder if that stuff would of done any good when Brown turned around and came back at him. I'm not concluding anything but am just asking because I don't know.
BTW, I don't think anyone has mentioned it here, but there is physical evidence which indicates Brown did turn around and approach the officer. Brown's blood was found 25 feet further from the car than his body was. And I read (don't have link handy right now but can later search if anyone cares) that the way the blood fell indicated Brown was moving towards the officer.
I would not want to make a 6'3" nearly 300lb. angry man even more angry, and remember tasers are LESS lethal only. Pepper spray or tear gas are even less effective on some people, and still only less lethal.
YES, I am wondering....COULD there have been another method to apprehend this suspect? WHY did the police officer allow a BREACH OF HIS SPACE (suspect even NEAR the car). COULD you shoot a kneecap and disable the suspect,OR utilize another means, such as Pine in the grass suggested. I WONDER about alot of things in regards to THIS case.
YES, the kid was a thug, but as I understand it, the theft was NOT an ARMED robbery, the apprehension of this kid COULD have been handled with MORE expertise...training, inexperience appear to be a MAJOR factor in this case.
Are you referring to the MLK quote? If so, that would have been good reading for Michael Brown.
IN TOTAL AGREEMENT....both sides (whites, blacks) have lost their HUMANITY....the kid was a thug (video is Indisputable)BUT the link I have provided about the disparity of arrests in this country has validity.
No one is trained to shoot at appendages, only center mass/high torso. A person in motion is a difficult target for even the most accurate shooters to reliably hit and since the person firing the gun is responsible for all rounds discharged, only aim at the biggest target area.
Someone earlier, sorry I don't recall right now, stated it simply. This situation began with a crime and escalated from there.
