Mr Bragg alleges that Mr Trump falsified the true nature of the payments because those payments were made in support of a crime. While hush-money payments are not by themselves illegal, spending money to help a presidential campaign but not disclosing it violates federal campaign finance law.
Cohen was convicted of just such a violation for not disclosing his payment to Ms Daniels. By reimbursing Cohen for that payment, Mr Bragg asserts, Mr Trump is tied to that criminal act - and it makes his falsification of business record a more serious offence.
Has any other politician ever been prosecuted for doing something similar?
It doesn't matter because Trump will not do down for this because it's ridiculous. If you think this is going to hurt Trump somehow, how about you go on the record and say so? It's ok if you're wrong in the end, it's nothing to be afraid of.
Perhaps you haven't heard, but Trump is being prosecuted for breaking the law. I know it's difficult to accept, but the law is what the law is. You break it, you have to pay the price. Donny doesn't like being held responsible, and he's passed that trait on to his cult followers, so it's not an easy thing to accept.
Remember that time when Hillary was prosecuted for breaking the law - oh, wait, she didn't. She didn't falsify records in a campaign, or steal top secret documents, or try to overturn a legitimate election. Maybe it was Obama. Nooope, he didn't do those thing either. Gosh.
Wake up, Rick. The man is a grifter that has pulled the wool over your eyes.
Laws? Please. The Colorado Constitution bans same sex marriage. Yet the state legally marries homosexuals all the time.
The Democrats think going after President Trump will derail his campaign so they have launched multiple lawsuits against him. Yet let seven million illegal aliens cross the border. This isn't about breaking the law.
This is about using government to go after political rivals.

No, this is about a person that has broken many laws (88 charges) and needs to be held accountable. Just because you worship Donny and plan to vote for him doesn't mean these cases are political. Geeez.

I don't know why you consistently say that "charges" equate to laws being broken. Do you really not understand how our judicial system works? When Russia charges an American journalist with spying, does that mean the journalist is guilty of spying just because he's been charged with spying? This is America, and in America we are ALL INNOCENT until proven guilty. So far, Trump has not been proven to be guilty of anything.

Putting words in my mouth?
I think both nominees need to retire before their conventions. There are hundreds of better choices out there.
Timing? Why are all these cases coming to trial right before a national election? Expensive legal representation. Distract Trump from running a national campaign? This is dirty pool. #bananarepublic

What would be the correct time to have a trial, Fred? We all have jobs and responsibilities, but the law should not bend just because it's inconvenient for Donny. He is a citizen, just like everyone else. He is having his day in court. Just because you have an opinion that this is political does not make it so.
Remember, several Grand Juries reviewed evidence and recommended charges. It's more than likely that he is guilty of the charges brought against him. Letting him dodge the accountability for those crimes would not be setting a great precedent for future presidents, now would it.
