We in Colorado watch and worry, aware that we can certainly be next, but our hands are NOT tied and we can do more than sympathize — we can work together to improve our odds in wildfire.
Conifer Rotary will be sponsoring volunteer days to thin the sides of our most dangerous major evacuation routes this summer, starting with Hwy 73.
Comment if you would like to be involved. We will have planning and physical work.
Any work will have property owner agreement.
You're right, there is a lot that residents can do, working with the state and local governments. Here in Red Feather Lakes we had a fire last summer and many of us had to evacuate for a week. Our 3 local fire departments were ready with the needed resources and had a great plan that contained the fire quickly. We are also mandated to keep our properties clean from excessive dry slash. It takes smart leaders with a plan in order to prevent and or mitigate wildfires.
California does not have that kind leadership and that is proven way too often.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Not for nuthin' . . . but does anyone believe that Biden will promise the federal government will pick up the tab to rebuild the uninsured homes that were decimated in the Palisades and Altadena?

Having lived in DCVR(DOWN IN THE VALLEY)....43 IS A FEEDER ROAD FOR THAT ENTIRE AREA,unclear if that road has been improved .but when I was there (left in 2015)...it was a dangerous situation ,u were basically trapped and it would have been bumper to bumper to get to 285....DCVR was one of the first subs to enlist FIREWISE,....we took advantage of the FREE program and cleared alot off our land...but then I always tried to mitigate....has 43 been included in this present plan?
If memory serves me still, there was talk of tying in Harris Park to one of the roads near Lion's Head, for evacuation purposes, but I don't know if that is still part of the plan.
CA is in the same boat the federal government is in right now . . . they won't be able to get their budget under control and fund the actual purpose of government (infrastructure, safety) absent deep cuts to the individual welfare programs the State sponsors.
One of the issues with the environmental movement is that they see trees as sacred. And they always try to stop timber harvests and homeowners from establishing perimeter zones around their homes. Trees shouldn't have priority over grasslands and other terrain. Most wildlife thrives on forest edges.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
