Is Snopes.com Biased?

Present your evidence in this thread. Here's info from factcheck.org. Hmmmm - that's not circular evidence, is it?

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/snopescom/

The e-mail goes on: "Then it has been learned the Mikkelson’s are very Democratic (party) and extremely liberal," adding: "There has been much criticism lately over the internet with people pointing out the Mikkelson’s liberalism revealing itself in their website findings." The author cites no evidence and no sources for either of these propositions.

We asked David. He told us that Barbara is a Canadian citizen, and as such isn’t allowed to vote here or contribute money to U.S. candidates. As for him, "My sole involvement in politics is on Election Day to go out and vote. I’ve never joined a party, worked for a campaign or donated money to a candidate."

"You’d be hard-pressed to find two more apolitical people," David Mikkelson said. We checked online to see if he had given money to any federal candidates, and nothing turned up. Mikkelson even faxed us a copy of his voter registration form. He asked us not to post an image of it here, but we can confirm that it shows he declined to state a party affiliation when he registered last year, and also that when he registered in 2000 he did so as a Republican.

Do the Snopes.com articles reveal a political bias? We reviewed a sampling of their political offerings, including some on rumors about George W. Bush, Sarah Palin and Barack Obama, and we found them to be utterly poker-faced. David does say that the site receives more complaints that it is too liberal than that it is too conservative. Nevertheless, he says, "We apply the same debunking standards to both sides."

Factcheck.org, a liberal website, reviews Snopes, a slightly liberal website and says it is good and not biased.
Snopes bias tends to be in not revealing all the facts of the story or claiming they are unable to confirm facts they don't want to appear accurate.

Let's face it, if the right were to realize that Snopes is accurate they'd have to admit they are a bunch of gullible stooges who'll believe any tall tale that comes down the pike as long as it confirms their prejudices.

I'm trying to not get into partisan bickering here. I'd like to have a civil and honest discussion about the reliability and political leanings of Snopes.

It's hard not to make it partisan Scruffy. The only folks that question the impartiality of these organizations are those on the right. We can be all PC and not profile, but then it's kind of hard to have this discussion. Every time some righties ridiculous chain email is shown to be made up out of whole cloth their response is to claim the debunker is biased. They refuse to acknowledge that they were snookered and just continue to believe the lie because it's more comfortable for them. Nymysys and his "pass it so we can read it" bullsh** is a prime example. They still believe the Swift boat lies, they still believe the birther lies, they still believe the ACORN lies, they still believe the Pelosi jet lies, they still believe the death panel lies, they still believe there were WMDs in Iraq, they still believe Iraq was involved in 9/11, my God, they still believe that climate change can't exist because God will protect us. Sorry- I'll bow out of this discussion. I find willful ignorance to be without question the most dangerous, most infuriating characteristic of the right.

I admit it, I am willfully ignorant of why you and all the idiots who voted the way you did will defend your decision to put an African born leftist Socialist Marxist idiot into office to lead us. I will admit it, that the world has gone crazy and we no longer have any values in this country because I am willfully ignorant of why anyone wants Sharia Law here in this country or why we shouldn't try to be like all the countries in Europe and be Socialists with a failing country. I am willfully ignorant of why we allow a bunch of loons called the U.N. to house here, break our laws, but have immunity from them, and we fund everything they ask for and take care of the rest of the world, who meanwhile hates us for being the greatest success story in the history of this world.

Oh yeah, I am willfully ignorant of why you love the :Koolaid: so much!!!!!
