Some people (at least one liberal that I know of) threaten not to do business with another here when they decide to be intolerant of their views. That is not very friendly.

If it is their business, I think they have that right, but they may not realize what it can do to their business to get a reputation of being intolerant. I think they refer to that as PC here.

perhaps they think it isn't very friendly to be called names, told your ideas are stupid, have the ideals you ascribe to be ridiculed.....would you do business with someone who treated you like that?

It's a funny culture on a message board, most here are neighbors, but the way they treat each other is hardly neighborly.......I do think get togethers outside of the forum are a good idea, helps to put a human face on posters you only know by there words here. I like to think that under all that bluster are ordinary people I might very well like, but sometimes it's hard to imagine that with the animosity that is apparent in many threads.

Yup, why would you invite someone into your home that has expressed their contempt for you?

It's too bad that you don't think that 'get togethers outside of the forum are a good idea'. Most on here disagree with you and we have a great time meeting and having lunch together. I know I have been to lunches with many people there and I was the only Conservative. There were even people I debated a lot with and we all got along great.

I am seeing a pattern here. I see the Liberals on here are the ones who take things a lot more personal than others and because of that won't do business with Conservatives that disagree with their opinions. I will never do that. I have even gone to hear LJ play in a band. I will do business with anyone on here even if we have had heated debates. Also I go to lunch with several of them at least a couple times a month. Interesting the differences in Liberals and Conservatives when personally dealing with neighbors.

Please....I don't see any differences when personally dealing with neighbors....have liberals not gone to these meetings outside the forum?.....did I not express a wish to do so?.......where are these so-called differences? I think when you first read my post you read into it what you thought would be there....not what I posted.....we all seem to be guilty of that. Once we placed labels on people, liberal or conservative, we assume we know what they are thinking, truth is we don't and need to read more carefully, perhaps looking for places we agree rather than concentrating on those places we disagree.

so i am torn on this one. i like reading all the remarks, rude or otherwise, as people are really saying what they think. i spend more time laughing about all the chaos.

on the otherhand from a marketing point of view when i go tell some business and others about the websites available in their community and they come and look and their eyes bulge out and they wonder why they would want to advertise or use the website then it's a problem.

to be fair i spend more time talking about how useful the website can be to post classifieds and learn about the roads in their neighborhood and share interests. i point out that the 285bound website courthouse and the ring are beyond the normal, it must be the water or something, and that other websites aren't this extreme.

but seriously it would really help if the same topics could be posted in the courthouse and the ring and then you have the option of being off the top in the ring and reasonable in the courthouse.

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government." Thomas Jefferson
