No the federal government should not, but a vote of the people should. Does the prospect of so many potential voters for the left, being eliminated before conception, scare you? At this point its moot, when things truely become scarce, we will see.

By the way, do you think the federal government doesn't already have doomsday type plans in place? The difference is they are the us, we the people are the them.

Oh....it's ok for the people to vote on who should have children and who shouldn't? What else can we vote on....killing grandma? Denying civil rights to citizens who disagree with the majority? You righties sure are fond of slippery slopes, be careful what you wish for, the next target might be you.

When things become scarce, then this nation will do as it always has...take care of it's own, be they poor, or disabled, or unemployed, or sick....that is what makes this country great. What you are suggesting is nothing short of genocide by the majority.......will never happen as long as we remain free.

I'm sure many other nations believed that as well. Survival isn't a conservative/liberal or right/left thing, its the worst possible scenario.

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

If you really care about Empathy - you should become a conservative. We give more money to charity, donate more time and blood.

So much for your greedy theory - who's greedy again?

Is it that you liberals want to confiscate the money producers earn by force of government? That's the real greed - the leftist greed, well that and the fact that you lefties don't donate as much as conservatives do.

If you did your research, and checked a dictionary, you would know that what you are railing about isn't socialism, never has been. I know, it's fun to throw out the socialism term every chance you get to pigeon-hole anything liberal, but it flat out ain't true.

Empathy has long been considered a moral, good, American trait......but apparently not so much anymore. I think hatred, greed, and intolerance have replaced it.[/quot

The definition of socialism has been updated. If the goverment no longer owns the means of production but does tax it at 40%, more than the profit the owners of the corporation themselves earn, wouldn't that mean they control the profits. And if that same goverment writes laws and codes that control much of what the firm can do, isn't that just like controlling the company without "owning" it?

Back to the original point of the thread, there is a lot less civility out there, and I especially hate when opposing speakers are shouted down. If you don't want to hear him or here, leave, don't deny the audience.

And the other point, live in other shoes? I don't know about others but I know I wasn't always as conservative as I am now. I have always been fairly libertarian but am constantly reviewing my views on many political and social issues.

A lot of that so called conservative charity is in the form of church contributions. Can you say Crystal Cathedral? One look at the number and size of the mega-bible churches around town shows where the bulk of these contributions go. Sorry, a kick-ass A/V system doesn't help a single mom trying to feed her kids.

No way...
