Lower North Fork Fire & Prescribed Fire Review

Oh, I don't know, having a discussion about the topic of the thread? Focus woman focus. :)

On the Jeffersonconservationdistrict.org website, they talk about planting trees in the spring if they are going to be planted. Maybe because they are seedlings that they offer? It seems to me that unless they get plenty of rain, it would require a lot of watering.

I have had more success with tree planting in the fall.

What has been your experience?

What can I say,50 memes, a class act Becky. Your own worst enemy.

When I helped a homeowner from the Hi Meadow fire, a conservation person was there and he didn't recommend any trees for replacement just grasses. But their website recommends differently now. When trees grow up they choke out bushes, junipers, aspens, all good foods for the wildlife.

I see the merit of planting grasses to choke out all the weeds that will pop up and help it move on to the next stage of bushes, plants, etc.

Home owners in the burn area need to review the noxious weed list. Those weeds often come in first when the soil is disturbed. Once those weeds get going, growing anything native is going to be tough. It would seem counter intuitive to kill a grass that comes up and grows aggressively, but once cheat grass gets set up, you'll never get another type of grass to take it over.

If you see these... Kill them.

That's why it makes sense to get a dry area or drought resistant grass growing.

Looks like this rain will help all the planted grasses that a group from the homeowners work planted. Hope they get more rain.

Light showers would be best... heavier rains are just going to cause the grass seed to sprout along a riverbank down in the flatlands somewhere.

THANK YOU for the link.

Took me awhile to find the cheat grass. Very good, clear pix, but surprising how many noxious weeds there are and how many were in the national forest from the Hi Meadow and Snaking fire.

Were there a lot of noxious weeds? Or grasses growing?
