DENVER -- A CALL7 Investigation into the deadly Lower North Fork Fire has uncovered numerous mistakes, many occurring before the prescribed burn even started.

And for the first time, many people who lost everything are speaking out in a half-hour special airing tonight, May 2, at 10:35 p.m. on 7NEWS.

Additionally, 7NEWS Reporter Amanda Kost investigates the mistakes made leading up to the prescribed burn becoming out of control. "Investigating the Fire" airs from 10:35 p.m. to 11:05 p.m. tonight and will re-air Sunday, May 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

If you have questions or comments about the investigation or the special -- use #InvestigatingLNFF on Twitter.

Watched it. Grateful to see it kept front and center. So much to do to clean up all the mistakes.

Bill Bass bought and paid for.

So very good to see an independent person review. Lots of mistakes.

Fire not only the 3 CSFS crew but all the way up the ladder who approved this fiasco.

Best way to help is to get involved in the Fire Department Special District elections and get people in who can help clean up the mess at Elk Creek for instance or improve their fire district.

Also write letters to the fire department with an outline of what you would like to see done to prevent another fiasco like LNFF. They need our input.

Same for Jeffco Sheriff and the illustrious dispatch and emergency alert notifications. What a mess.

And thank all of them for what they did right.

I watched it, too and went to comment on it and was disheartened to find this post on Facebook from a city slicker:

let's focus on the real tragedy here...3 people died, let's mourn for them. i will say upfront that it is sad that people lost their homes and things in the fire. however...it is NOT tragic, devastating nor are these people victims. these are not middle class or even upper middle class homes in the mountains...they are very expensive homes on very expensive land...that's why there are so few. they have health insurance, homeowners insurance and easily have the ability to rebuild. if you want to experience tragedy or devestation, go visit the children's ward of a cancer hospital and view the tragic and devestation that those famlies are experiencing. keep the definition and the true impact of those words where they belong. they do not go with the fortunate people in CO who happen to live in a forrest whose homes were burned in a forrest fire. you have the ability to rebuild, to purchase all of your luxuries again, you have your physical and mental health in tact and every ability to recouver from the events of that day. as reported in this segment...there have been 175 prescribed burns in CO in the history of prescribed burns, only 2 have escaped and this one was in a new area for prescribed burns. 2!!!! sometimes things happen. they just do. you want to blame someone? there is no one to blame. things just happen. drop the story. channel 7 has devoted entirely waaaaaaaay to much time on this issue. there is no bill or legislation that will ever be passed that can trump God's plan or just plain and simple human error. enough already. be thankful you all are alive and move on. i don't have enough fingers and toes to count on my body plus my daughter's to count the number of people who would give anything to have had a home in the mountains, suffered a loss of that home but fully capable of building again instead of sleeping on the bench outside of a full shelter. keep that in mind.

Not surprising. There are some who live up here in the forest who feel the same way.

However, there are some whose homes burned who live very sparingly and not all had insurance. Still a lot of properties in the area w/o homes who now have that charred look, not great for selling especially in this economy.

(sarcasm, just in case it doesn't hit you in the face) And damn those people with nice homes for working so hard to make their dream come true. They don't deserve any compensation even though they did nothing wrong. Too bad some lost everything including loved ones. Their property values just took a dive and oh, maybe in about 20 years they might have grasses and maybe some bushes to look at. Really it is their own damn fault for building near anything associated with our state and fed gubment. Forget due diligence and reasonable care, it doesn't apply to our gubment.

Wonder how this will work out. One commented that reimbursement would be miniscule. Can't find the article now.
