Hwy 285 Road Conditions

22 Dec 2014 16:49 - 14 Mar 2019 07:57 #1 by MountainTownAlerts
A heads-up was posted on the Evergreen Neighbors & Friends Facebook group that 285 headed west is at a standstill near 470. Someone else posted that Parmaleee Gulch is all ice. CDOT may be shutting the highway down, we'll keep you posted.

Please be careful if you are heading home soon, or out to see the game.

So the webcam view at Little Britches/Haley's Closet went from this

to this in 5 minutes time

It looks like the snow is really coming down

But the road looks clear at Conifer Marketplace

Just posted onto our Facebook page by Chris P. Bacon (isn't that the best name EVER?):

Still a parking lot with little to no movement for well over an hour. Stay away if possible.

It's a little more clear in Conifer now, here at Little Britches/Haley's Closet anyway:

Hearing on the scanner that it's still at a stand-still at the bottom of the hill though, as mentioned by Chris P. Bacon.

Anyone been out and about yet this morning? How are the roads?

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Just got to work a little before 7. Some parts of 285 were just wet; soaked with Mag Chloride seemingly, but that was the exception. Most was snowpacked and icy. Windy point was slow going as was the Luge. Once you get past the C470 exits on 285 the road is mostly dry and clear. So long as you have good tires, keep a good following distance and keep your speed down you'll be fine. I left at 0550 and averaged around 40 - 45 mph, stopped for coffee and still got to work at my regular time.

The canyon about 6pm. Very slick with multiple spin outs. Roads may just now be getting plowed. Be safe!

From Green Foothill Farm at Parmalee Gulch exit: traffic is going in one lane only, very slowly. Many cars with hazards on.

Edit to add: 6" of snow measured at Green Foothill Farm so far.
