Great Endurance

Today's Scripture

…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. Colossians 1:11, NIV

When you look at the life of David, he had many mountaintop moments that we celebrate—his anointing to be the next king of Israel, defeating Goliath, becoming a national hero, conquering enemy armies. These were moments when God suddenly promoted, blessed, favored. But most of David’s life was spent in the valleys where it didn’t look like God was doing anything, times that were lonely, unfair, uncomfortable. If it wasn’t for the grace of God strengthening David with all power, he would not have had the great endurance and patience it took for him to reach the throne.

It’s easy to get discouraged when things aren’t changing as fast as we would like. We know God has put promises in our heart, then opposition shows up with a flood of trouble, heartbreak, and anxiety. Know that in that moment God is going to strengthen you with supernatural power to have great endurance. What should discourage and defeat you will give way to fresh passion and vision that will propel you into your purpose.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Your power is at work to strengthen me in order that I can have great endurance and accomplish great things. Thank You that I can put the discouragements of the valley behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that You are pushing me forward into my purpose. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Angels Dispatched

Today's Scripture

“Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way.” Daniel 10:12–13, NLT

Daniel had been praying and fasting, waiting on God, asking God to help him, but nothing was happening. I’m sure he thought, “God, You brought me through the lions’ den and I’ve seen Your power and favor. Why aren’t You answering me?” After three weeks of silence, an angel appeared to him and said, “Daniel, from the first day you prayed, your request was heard in heaven, but the spirit prince of Persia blocked me until now.” On day one, God set the miracle into motion, but there were reasons for the delay.

When we don’t see anything happening, we think God must not have heard us. Nothing is changing. No, the moment you prayed according to God’s Word, He set things in motion and dispatched the angel. You can’t see it yet, but things have changed in your favor. Healing has been released, the right people have been lined up, the breaks and the restoration have been put in place. It’s in your future. Now do your part and have faith. It’s just a matter of time before the angel shows up with the answer.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who rules over the forces of darkness that try to hold back the blessings I am believing for. Thank You that You are breaking the way open right now. I believe You are releasing me into favor and new levels. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Be Victorious

Today's Scripture

“We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” Numbers 13:33, NLT

Moses sent twelve spies to search out the Promised Land. These men were skilled warriors, strong leaders, the cream of the crop. They had seen God part the Red Sea, send manna for food each morning, miracle after miracle. Yet ten spies came back after forty days and said, “Moses, we don’t have a chance. The people are huge. We felt like grasshoppers compared to them.” They made the mistake of letting their environment determine their identity. Because they saw themselves as grasshoppers, as weak, defeated, “not able to” insects, they never made it into the Promised Land.

Don’t let that be you. What you’re up against may look impossible—the sickness, family trouble, financial setback. The environment is trying to convince you to change who you are and take on that grasshopper mentality, saying, “It’s not meant to be.” God wouldn’t have allowed it if you weren’t well able. On your own, you may not be able to defeat it, but you’re not on your own. The Most High God is breathing on your life. You are blessed, favored, healthy, valuable, and strong. Be victorious.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are always greater than any difficulty or adversity I will ever face. Thank You that You have given me everything I need to live out Your purpose for my life. I declare that I am not a grasshopper, but I am well able to go in and take the land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Turn and Walk Away

Today's Scripture

Then David turned away from Eliab to someone else and asked the same question. 1 Samuel 17:30, AMP

The enemy uses offenses and insults to get you upset and try to prove to people who you are or try to pay them back. You end up wasting valuable time and energy fighting a battle that doesn’t matter. If that battle is not between you and your destiny, don’t engage it. Goliath stood between David and his purpose, and David fought that battle. A few days earlier, David’s older brother, Eliab, belittled David in front of other soldiers, but David turned away. Had he gotten distracted by the offense and tried to set his brother straight, he would have missed fighting Goliath.

The mark of a champion is knowing what battles to fight and what battles to walk away from. Are you fighting battles that don’t matter, just trying to prove to people who you are, to set them straight? If you win, what have you accomplished? Are you closer to your destiny, or was it a distraction? When you learn to walk away from what doesn’t matter, you’ll have the strength, the favor, and the anointing to defeat what does matter.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God, and You hold my destiny in Your hands. Give me wisdom to know when what is coming against me is simply a distraction that will get me off course. Help me to guard my lips and not get involved in battles that don’t matter. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

All the Kingdom Promises

Today's Scripture

“So don’t ever be afraid, dearest friends! Your loving Father joyously gives you his kingdom with all its promises!” Luke 12:32, TPT

When you come to God with your prayers, don’t be a beggar, be a believer. Some people come to God pleading for the same promises again and again. No, turn it around. God heard you the first time you asked. Don’t pray like He didn’t. When you pray, believe that He is faithful, that the miracle was set in motion, and start thanking God that it’s on the way. And believe that you’re a child of the Most High God, that He’s your loving Father who joyously gives you His kingdom with all its promises. No more begging God year after year.

Most of the time after you pray a promise from God or a desire He’s put on your heart, there’s a waiting period when you don’t see anything happening. All you have is a promise, but it’s from the God who created the universe. You have a word from the God who calls you a masterpiece, the God whose good pleasure it is to give you the kingdom. Your heavenly Father gave you His Word. Believe and receive it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for being my loving Father who joyously gives me Your kingdom with all its promises. Thank You for encouraging me to come to You and be a believer, not a beggar. I declare that I am believing and receiving because You have given me Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

“I Am What God Says I Am”

Today's Scripture

You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16, MSG

“I am what God says I am.” I may feel weak, but God says I’m strong, so my report is, “I am strong.” When you say that, strength starts heading your way. When you’re dealing with an illness, anxiety, or depression, it’s easy to wear the labels “sick,” “depressed,” “anxious,” “defeated.” “That’s just who I am.” No, that’s not who you are. That’s what you’re dealing with. You’re not a sick person trying to get well. You’re a well person fighting off sickness. Don’t let the difficulty become your identity. Don’t get in agreement with the negative. Go back to what your Creator says. God says He’s restoring health to you. He says you’ll run and not be weary. He says weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Say about yourself, “I am a temple of God. I’m healthy, whole, energetic, free, happy, and victorious.” If you start saying what God says about you instead of what you feel, you’ll see things begin to turn around. Don’t go through life wearing negative labels.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You didn’t create me to live weighed down by the worry, hurts, guilt, and frustrations that creep in and limit my life. Help me to clear out all the clutter of negative thoughts and labels from my mind and dwell on what You have to say about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Carried

Today's Scripture

“I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” Isaiah 46:4, NLT

Where would we be without the God who carries us through the difficulties, who sustains us, who has not let the opposition defeat us, not let the anxiety take root, not let the doubt talk us out of our dreams? Your heavenly Father loves carrying you, and you never get too old for God to carry you. When you’re tempted to worry that you might not make it through a sickness, or you feel overwhelmed by a loss or discouraged by people at work who are not fair, just start thanking Him for carrying you.

You may have things coming against you now, and you don’t see how you can keep going. You could live upset and bitter, but God knows what you’re going through, the struggles, the lonely nights, the unfair situations. He is saying, “I’m going to carry you. I have you close to My heart. You’re in the palm of My hand.” You’re about to feel strength that you’ve never felt, peace when you could be stressed, favor that will make things happen that you couldn’t make happen.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for promising me grace for every difficulty, and thank You for carrying me throughout my lifetime. Thank You that You made me and care about every detail of my life. I declare that nothing that’s coming against me will be too much. I will rest in the palm of Your hand. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Into the Fullness of Your Purpose

Today's Scripture

When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. 2 Samuel 5:3, NIV

At thirty-seven years old, seven years after David was anointed to be the king of Judah and twenty years after he was first anointed by Samuel to become the next king of Israel, the elders of Israel anointed him king over all of Israel, over all twelve tribes. So why this third anointing? The first two were necessary to bring him to this point, but God knew with this new assignment, with greater responsibility and challenges, David would need a fresh anointing. This third anointing was his most powerful anointing, which brought him into the fullness of his purpose.

At every season in your life, when you’re going to step up to a new level, when you need more wisdom, more strength, more protection, God will be right there with a fresh anointing, with fresh ideas, fresh momentum, fresh talent. You’ve seen God be good to you in the past, but you haven’t seen anything yet. Your anointing is coming, and it’s going to thrust you into the fullness of what God has in store.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your anointing that is at work in my life to help me to step up to new levels and fulfill my purpose. Thank You that I am anointed with the strength, the peace, and the confidence I need. I believe that You are releasing a fresh anointing on my life today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Strength to Make It Through

Today's Scripture

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9:29–31, ESV

When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, it’s interesting that Moses and Elijah, two heroes of the faith, appeared and started talking with Him about the overwhelming hardship, suffering, and exhaustion He would go through on the cross. Maybe Elijah was there because even though he had performed great miracles, at one point he was too exhausted to move forward; then God sent an angel to strengthen him. Maybe Elijah encouraged Jesus that God would give Him special strength to make it through. Maybe Moses reminded Jesus that God sent Aaron and Hur to help hold his hands up when he was too exhausted in the battle. Maybe Moses told Jesus someone would help Him carry the cross when He was too exhausted.

When you face times when you feel as though you don’t have the strength to go on, know that Jesus, Moses, and Elijah felt fatigued and overwhelmed. God is going to send angels to strengthen you, the right people are going to show up. God gives strength to overcome, fresh passion, fresh vision. It’s God giving you special strength.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You know the weaknesses and exhaustion that I sometimes feel. Thank You that I can rest assured that You are coming with power to give me special strength just as You did for Jesus. I believe that You are supplying me with all I need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why the Increased Pressure?

Today's Scripture

“But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you.…And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Exodus 7:3–5, NIV

After God told Moses to go and tell Pharaoh to let the Israelite slaves go free, Moses was overwhelmed with insecurities and feelings of intimidation, by the pressure to do something he didn’t feel qualified to do. Then on top of it, God caused Pharaoh, one of the most powerful rulers in the world, to be stubborn and say no. Why? The pressure was a setup. God was using Pharaoh to create so much adversity that He could show His power in a greater way when He set the slaves free. It would be a greater miracle.

There are times when God will lead you down a path, open a door, but then He’ll increase the pressure. People come against you, there’s a setback or a betrayal, the door closes. You’re right where Moses was. The pressure is intensified. You could get discouraged, lose your passion, and give up. But the increased pressure is a sign that God is about to show out in a greater way, that He is about to do something unusual and uncommon. That pressure is about to be turned into power.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are going to use the obstacles in my life to show me Your favor and power in ways I’ve never seen. Thank You that the increase of pressure is a setup for You to show out in my life and circumstances. I declare that others are going to see Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
