Fight the Good Fight

Today's Scripture

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day. 2 Timothy 4:7–8, NIV

Nobody faced more hardships for sharing his faith than the apostle Paul. Second Corinthians 11 lists some of them: beaten with rods three times, given thirty-nine lashes five times, stoned by an angry mob and left for dead, falsely accused and put in prison several times, shipwrecked, and deserted by colleagues when he stood trial. Paul had all these opportunities to be angry and bitter. But near the end of his life, he gives us the secret to living in victory. He said, “I have fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith.” He was saying, “Through all the difficulties, betrayals, and things I didn’t understand, God was in control and leading me to new levels of my destiny.”

Maybe today you need to dig down a little deeper. You’re letting doubt, delays, detours, discouragements, or what someone said cause you to live sour and upset. You need to get your passion back, get your joy back, get your vision back. What happened may not have been fair, but God has beauty for the ashes. Now do your part and keep the faith.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for being the God who is in control and always leading me to victory. Thank You that You have designed me to fight the good fight of faith and finish my race even when I am hard pressed by it. I declare that I will keep the faith and will one day receive the crown of righteousness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Always Love Them

Today's Scripture

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17, NIV

In tough times when a family member or a friend messes up and really needs you, it’s easy to criticize them and stir up more of the negative. But they don’t need your judgment or harsh, critical words, such as, “You should have known better. You deserve what you’re getting. Are you ever going to get it together?” No, they don’t need more guilt, more condemnation. They already know what they did was wrong. They have enough people finding fault and gossiping about them. They need someone who will show mercy, someone who will love them back into wholeness.

God is counting on you to be that person, to cover a mistake, to not hold their faults and shortcomings and what happened in the past against them. If you’re not there for them, if you don’t do it, who’s going to do it? Be a healer, be a restorer, be a lifter. When you quiet the gossip and condemnation, when you show honor, even when honor is not due, you’re going to be blessed, you will be honored, you will see favor and increase.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for loving me at all times, for pouring out Your grace and forgiveness upon me and never giving up on me when I’ve failed. Thank You for the loved ones and friends You’ve given. Help me to be loyal to them and be at my best when someone else is at their worst. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Journey Will Be a Success

Today's Scripture

“He replied, ‘The LORD, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success.’” Genesis 24:40, NIV

Abraham was living in the land of Canaan. He told his main assistant to travel to his homeland, which was four hundred miles away, and find a wife for his son Isaac. You can imagine the pressure on this man. But Abraham reassured him, “The Lord my God will send His angel ahead of you, and he will see to it that you find the right wife for my son.” Abraham believed that God had already arranged for the right young lady for his son. When this man arrived where Abraham’s brother had settled, the first young lady who showed up was a divine connection. Her name was Rebekah. She became Isaac’s wife.

It’s easy to go through life worried about how something is going to work out. You don’t see anything happening. How will you meet the right person? No, stay in peace. God is going before you right now. He’s already sent the angel ahead of you, lining up the right people, the good breaks, the healing. Now do your part and have faith. The right people are going to be waiting for you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Your hand has been upon my life in so many ways. Thank You for the countless things You have made happen for my good that I could never make happen. I believe You are protecting me and will make my journey a success. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Ministering Spirits

Today's Scripture

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14, NIV

We all face times when life is so overwhelming that we feel we’re at the breaking point. We may be dealing with an illness, a relationship that’s falling apart, or a setback to our business. We’ve done the right thing, worked hard, but the situation gets worse, and we don’t think we can take any more. It’s not that we don’t have faith; it’s battle fatigue.

God sees what you’re going through, and He knows when it’s too much. The Scripture says, “God is a very present help in times of trouble.” He will send angels to strengthen you, to encourage you, to help lighten that load. They are messengers that God uses to carry out His will, to fight our battles, to push back forces of darkness, and to refresh and reenergize us. Be encouraged that God has already dispatched angels with healing in their wings—with strength, with favor, with fresh vision, with victory. You’re going to feel a supernatural power lifting that load, a new attitude giving you a second wind so you can step up and fulfill your purpose.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You know all the things I am carrying, and You make provisions of special strength for me all along the way. Thank You that You even send angels in various forms to minister to my needs. I believe that I have the power to endure whatever I face. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Talk Back

Today's Scripture

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God! Psalm 42:11, NLT

In Psalm 42, the psalmist was so deeply discouraged that he didn’t think he could go on. He says, “My heart is breaking.” He felt forsaken, as though he was wandering in the darkness. He adds, “I’m oppressed by my enemies. Their taunts pierce me like fatal wounds.” He kept describing how bad it was, how he wasn’t going to make it. When you let your feelings rule, you’ll start talking defeat and how it’s not going to work out. Right when you thought the psalmist was going to give up, he wrote today’s Scripture. He was talking to himself and saying, “Self, why are you discouraged and being ruled by your feelings? Put your hope back in the Lord. Start talking about how big your God is.”

You may feel sad and discouraged, you’ve been through some difficult things, but you have to talk back to your feelings. You can’t keep a depressed attitude, a discouraged countenance, and expect things to get better. Sometimes we’re waiting on God, but God is waiting on us to override what we feel and to believe what He says.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are my Savior and my God. Thank You that I can take my eyes off my circumstances and put a smile on my face and live a joy-filled life because I know You are in control. I declare that my eyes are fixed on You and Your Word and I will praise You again. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Like a Warrior

Today's Scripture

The LORD will march out like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies. Isaiah 42:13, NIV

You may feel overwhelmed by a bad medical report, by a broken relationship, or by being cheated in a business deal. In tough times, you have to realize you’re not alone. The Most High God is fighting for you. He’s got your back. He’s brought you through in the past, and He’s going to bring you through in the future. God looks at your enemies and says, “If you mess with them, you have to first face Me.”

Now you have to do your part and get your fire back. You can’t sit around in self-pity and think about what you lost, who hurt you, and how unfair it was. That’s going to keep you down. Shake off that weak, defeated mentality and have a warrior mentality. Your attitude has to be that no matter what comes against you, it cannot defeat you. A warrior doesn’t complain about opposition; a warrior loves a good fight. It fires him up. If you have a warrior spirit and start doing what you can, God will help you do what you can’t.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You, the Mighty Warrior, the all-powerful Creator of the universe, are with me. Thank You that Your power to strengthen me in the difficult times is greater than any force that comes against me. I believe that You are transforming me into a mighty warrior. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Good Soil

Today's Scripture

“The seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Mark 4:20, NLT

In Jesus’ Parable of the Sower, He is telling us to focus on the condition of the soil of our heart. He warns us about having rocky or thorny soil. He’s saying, “What’s around you? What’s influencing you? Who’s speaking into your life? Who are you giving your time and attention to?” The thorns could be friends who keep causing you to compromise. The weeds are coworkers who gossip and talk about how bad life is. The rocks are relatives who tell you that you’ll never be successful. They are choking out the seed of God’s Word in your life. They’re choking out your dreams, your vision, your character.

Are you being contaminated by what you’re watching, by what you’re thinking about, by who you’re spending time with? What you’re not willing to walk away from is where you’ll stop growing. If a friend is causing you to compromise but you won’t make the change, it will keep you where you are. The seed can’t grow in bad soil. Be selective with whom and what you give your time, energy, and attention.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the gifts and potential You put in me. Thank You for making it so plain that I need to be selective about whom I surround myself with. Help me to be bold to evaluate and make sure that my friends are people who inspire me and cause me to grow in my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Strength Under Control

Today's Scripture

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5, NIV

What do you do when someone disrespects you, belittles you, gets angry with you and starts spewing poisonous words at you? Some people think that you should show them meekness, meaning that you let offensive people walk over you and always be their doormat. But meekness doesn’t mean weakness. Meekness in the Scripture means strength under control. You have the power and fortitude to stand your ground and let them know how you feel, but you know when to use it. You don’t waste it getting upset, offended, trying to pay people back. You realize you are not going to change the mind of someone who has unresolved issues and is full of turmoil. You keep your cool and overlook the offense; you ignore it, knowing the situation is going to turn out in your favor.

You can’t control what others say and do, but you can control your response. The meek control their emotions. The meek don’t try to prove and argue their case and show them who the boss is. The meek keep their strength under control.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I have the power to remain quiet because You have worked meekness into my life. Thank You that I can stay on the high road and let You take care of other people’s comments and attitudes. I’ve made up my mind that I’m going to keep my joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Miracles Along the Way

Today's Scripture

Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him. Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed. Acts 28:8–9, NLT

The apostle Paul had God’s promise that he would stand before Caesar in Rome, but on the journey there he had to survive a huge storm, being shipwrecked, and being bitten by a venomous snake. The islanders witnessed Paul miraculously not being harmed by the poison. Then Paul prayed for the healing of the father of the leading official of the island as well as anyone else on the island who was sick. Not surprisingly, many of the islanders came to faith.

Sometimes God will take you on what feels like a detour on your way to your destiny. He said you’re going to Rome, but you find yourself on an island with a snake bite, thinking, “This doesn’t make sense.” But it’s not just about you; it’s about the people whom God wants you to impact. There are people who need your love and healing touch. There’s healing in your words. Sometimes we can get so caught up in our plans that we miss the miracles along the way. It’s a divine detour. As you help others, that’s a seed God will use to help you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that the storms and shipwrecks I face today cannot stop Your plan for my life. Thank You that my purpose is firmly and securely in Your hands. I believe and declare that what seem like detours cannot defeat me and are pushing me into my destiny. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Ultimate Place of Victory

Today's Scripture

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11, NIV

It’s interesting that the last place Jesus appeared to His disciples before He ascended to heaven was the Mount of Olives. That’s where the Garden of Gethsemane is located. Forty days earlier, He spent the night in the garden in agony, in great distress, as He faced the coming suffering on the cross and death for our sins. Now He’s at that very place, but He’s victorious over death and the enemy, alive forevermore, with the keys of death and hell. He’s not suffering but reigning, not in agony but in victory, not in great distress but clothed with all power. All that suffering was a setup for a resurrection. It was all a part of God’s plan that would launch Jesus into His purpose.

You may go through some Gethsemanes, but like Jesus, you’re going to go back to that place with great victory, great favor, great courage. The enemy doesn’t have the final say. God does. He’s ordering your steps. In those times of pressure, keep reminding yourself that it’s a setup. That suffering is a sign that a resurrection is coming.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when the difficulties in my way look bigger, stronger, and more powerful than I can handle, You have the final word. Thank You that You turn what look like setbacks into setups and bring me through to great victory. I believe that You are bringing resurrections. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
