The Joy of the Lord

Today's Scripture

“The joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10, NIV

We all go through disappointments and unfair things. When you’re dealing with an illness, raising a difficult child, or going through a stressful season at work, it’s easy to get discouraged and let the pressures of life weigh you down to where you live with a heaviness that sours your attitude. We think, “Once I get through this, I’ll be happy again and have a good attitude.” But the Scripture says that the joy of the Lord is your strength. Joy is the inner strength that comes from God breathing on your life, sustaining you, empowering you, and causing you to overcome.

That’s why the enemy is out to steal your joy. He knows that if you’ve lost your passion and joy, and everything’s heavy, you won’t be able to stand strong and outlast the opposition or life’s pressures and frustrations. If he can keep you discouraged, upset over who did you wrong, burdened down by a medical report, he’ll be able to keep you defeated. You’re waiting for God to change things, but God is saying, “If you get your joy back, strength will come.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that though I face challenges and obstacles today, I can still walk in the fullness of joy. Thank You that no matter what happens to me, You inhabit my praises with Your presence. I receive Your joy as my strength to rise up and overcome the tough times. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Set a New Standard

Today's Scripture

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Romans 12:2, MSG

So often we let our environment, how we were raised, and other people’s expectations of us set the limits for our life. We adapt to what’s around us. If you take an oak tree seed and plant it in a two-foot pot, that oak tree will never become what it was created to be if you leave it in the pot—not because there’s something wrong with the seed, but because of the environment that it’s in. It’s so easy to just fit in and be like everyone else. But God didn’t create you to be average. He created you to stand out, to go beyond the norm, to leave your mark on this generation. You have seeds of greatness inside. You’re supposed to go further than the people who raised you and set a new standard. You may be in an environment where people have addictions, low self-esteem, depression, and poverty. You can’t stop that. But here’s the key: Don’t let that become the norm in your thinking. If you accept that as who you are, it will keep you from your destiny.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I don’t have to let society squeeze me into its mold. Thank You that my life can stand out as uncommon for You. I’m not going to be pressured into compromising, and I’m not going to live like everyone else. I’m going to live by a higher standard. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Just Be Patient

Today's Scripture

Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day! Habakkuk 2:3, TLB

The prophet Habakkuk wrote that we are to write down our vision, the dreams and promises God puts in our heart. Are you missing blessings, favor, healing, and breakthroughs because your pen is not ready? You’re thinking, “Maybe it will happen.” No, write it down. Get in agreement with God. You don’t have to figure out how He is going to do it. He didn’t ask you to write the how. He just said, “Write what I’ve spoken to you.” As you keep that vision in front of you and keep thanking Him that it’s on the way, the Scripture goes on to say that though the vision is fulfilled slowly, wait on it. You’re going to come into an appointed time, and it will not be late. You’re going to see God bring dreams to pass, turn the medical situation around, get your child back on course, catapult you to a new level. Wait in faith, wait with expectancy, knowing that God is working. You are closer than you think. You’re on the verge of seeing something that you’ve never seen.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the vision that You have put in my heart, the dreams and promises. Thank You that You are ordering my steps and You have an appointed time to fulfill my vision. I believe that my set time is established, and I am waiting for it with expectancy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Shout of Faith

Today's Scripture

When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it. Joshua 6:20, NLT

After the people of Israel had wandered in the wilderness for forty years, all that finally stood between them and the Promised Land was the city of Jericho with its huge fortified walls of stone and mortar. Nothing they had faced was as big a challenge, but they couldn’t go around it or go back. They had to conquer it to get to their destiny. God instructed them to march around the walls in silence once a day for six days, with no complaining. Then on the seventh day, on the seventh time around, they were to let out a great shout of faith. This was a battle cry of victory, declaring God’s greatness, and without that shout that activated God’s power, the walls would not have come down.

There may be a Jericho in your life that’s holding you back, something you’re believing to change. It’s important to pray, to believe, and to obey, but what brings the walls down is a shout of praise, a shout of faith, when you declare the greatness of our God over the problem. “Suddenly” the impossible will turn in your favor.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that no obstacle is so high and wide that it can withstand Your touch. Thank You that to bring about Your promises in my life, You have called me to walk by faith and not by sight. I will give a shout of faith, believing that You are about to bring walls down. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What Do You Have?

Today's Scripture

“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” John 6:9, NKJV

Late in the day, Jesus was teaching a great crowd in a remote place. He asked His disciples where they could buy bread to feed so many people. They said it would be too expensive and impractical, so Jesus asked them, “What do you have?” All they could find was five loaves of bread and two fish, “but what is that among so many?” That’s a logical question. But Jesus didn’t ask them to figure out how it was going to happen. He just asked them to use what they had and believe that He could take what seems too small and make something great out of it.

The enemy would love for you to get stuck, thinking you’re at a deficit. “When I get more funds, more training, more breaks, then I can move forward.” But you’re not lacking anything you need to fulfill your purpose. Don’t overlook or discount what God has given you. Don’t go around with a disadvantaged mentality. Recognize the gifts and talents you have and use what you have, and He’ll take the natural and do something supernatural.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the gifts and talents You have given me and how You multiply them whenever I put them into Your hands. Help me to not overlook or discount what I have but rather use it for You. I believe that Your grace, favor, and mercy will abound in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Now Is the Right Time

Today's Scripture

As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” Acts 24:25, NIV

The apostle Paul was standing before the governor of Judea, a man named Felix, on trial for sharing his faith. Felix was very intrigued by Paul, and as Paul spoke about what it meant to be a believer and how to live a godly life, Felix felt convicted. He knew he was not living with integrity, that he needed to stop compromising, but he didn’t want to deal with it. Even though he was frightened by the coming judgment, he sent Paul away, saying he would call Paul when he found it “convenient.” Two years later, Felix was out of office, and we never read anything more about him. We don’t know if a convenient time ever came or if he ever dealt with what God was bringing to light.

Don’t put off what you know God is speaking to you about. On the other side of that obedience is a level of your destiny that you’ve never seen. No more waiting for a more convenient time. This is your time to activate the power of God in your life by taking action.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the ways You speak to my heart and open windows of grace for me to make changes in my life that need to be made. Help me to stop delaying to take the steps of faith that will take me higher. I will not put off dealing with these heart issues for a more convenient time. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

To Whom Are You Listening?

Today's Scripture

The arguments of the person who is influencing you do not come from the one who is calling you. Galatians 5:8, GW

In the Scripture, even though God said that Job was a “blameless and upright man,” almost overnight he suffered great personal losses. Things got so bad that his wife told him to just curse God and die. His friends, supposedly his comforters, said the tragedy was all his fault. Surely, they said, he sinned and was getting what he deserved. In times of difficulties, be careful who you listen to. Don’t give your ear to just anyone. Some people don’t have your best interest at heart. They’ll judge and condemn you, try to straighten you out, tell you everything you’ve done wrong. You need to be around people who speak faith into you. You need people who tell you that you’re coming out, that healing is on the way, that God has beauty for the ashes. And even if the difficulty is your fault, you need people who tell you that God’s mercy is bigger than any mistake, that His arms are still wide open. Tune out all the accusing, condemning voices and listen to those whose hearts are like the God who is calling you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the people in my life who inspire me, challenge me, and make me better. Help me to be wise about who I listen to and the counsel and opinions I receive. Help me to distance myself from anyone whose influence is condemning. I want to walk with the right people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Patiently Waiting

Today's Scripture

Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. James 5:7, NLT

Are there some situations today that you need to be patient about and leave alone? You’re striving, trying to force something, living stressed, but nothing’s changing. Come back to a place of peace. Give yourself permission to rest. This takes all the pressure off. Say no to the urgency that makes you feel like it’s up to you to bring the rains, to make everything happen. No, God is in control. You keep honoring Him, being your best, and God will take care of those crops. He’ll bring the rains. He’ll bring the right people. He’ll open the right doors. He’ll turn your child around. He hasn’t brought you this far to leave you. Those dry seasons are not going to stop your harvest. They’re a distraction to try to steal your peace, to get you frustrated and impatient. Try a new strategy. Making everything work out is not your job. When your harvest is ready, all the forces of darkness cannot stop what God has for you. The reason it’s taking longer is because your harvest is going to supersede what you have in mind.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that everything You have for me will be released in my life at the right time. Thank You that I can wait with great expectancy for the harvest, knowing that You are working behind the scenes. Help me to be patient and know that You are always on schedule. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Mountains Melt

Today's Scripture

The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. Psalm 97:5, NIV

Mountains represent problems that look permanent, immovable. It might be a mountain of depression, insecurity, addiction, lack, or anxiety. It looks as though it could never change, but there’s no mountain God can’t melt, and He can melt it to the point that there is no more sign of it. It may not have happened yet, but this is a new day. God is doing a new thing. He will not allow any obstacle to keep you from your destiny. What God put in your heart will still come to pass. The dreams He’s given you will still be completed.

Now do your part and start declaring God’s favor and power. Start declaring His promises, speaking what He says about you: “I can do all things through Christ. There’s nothing too difficult for my God.” Start thanking God that it’s going to happen. As you keep God’s Word in your heart, God promises it will prevail—not the sickness, not the trouble, not the fear. He will melt the obstacle that is set to defeat you. You will be victorious.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that no matter how big the mountain of obstacles is, I have Your promise that You will melt it down. Thank You that what has held me back will not limit me anymore. I receive this by faith and look forward to how You will turn it around. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s Just a Matter of Time

Today's Scripture

For God says, “I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly.” Psalm 75:10, NLT

We all have things we’re believing will change. We’re fighting an illness, struggling with an addiction, or dealing with fear, anxiety, or depression. We prayed, we believed, but we don’t see anything improving. But in the unseen realm the moment you prayed, the strength of what was coming against you was being broken. The strength of the fear, the addiction, the sickness was being broken. Now, you may not see any manifestation for some time. There may not be any evidence that anything changed. This is where many people get discouraged. There will always be a time period when it looks as though God didn’t do what He promised. The fear still comes, the medical report hasn’t improved, the addiction is the same. But the strength of those things has been broken and power is increasing in your life. The truth is the fear is dead, the addiction is dead, the trouble at work is dead. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t see anything happening. It’s just a matter of time. What God promised you is on the way.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for all the promises You’ve given me in Your Word. Thank You that I don’t have to stress out when I don’t see things changing because You have broken off the strength of what comes against me. I will believe first and declare that answers are on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
