In a Dark Hour

Today's Scripture

An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:43–44, NIV

In the Garden of Gethsemane just a few hours before He was arrested and taken to be crucified, Jesus was under such pressure and anguish that His sweat became like great drops of blood. He was praying, “Father, I’m at My breaking point. If it’s possible, take this cup from Me.” But the Father was silent. At that point, an angel appeared and strengthened Him. Jesus had been deeply troubled and under great sorrow, but He became empowered with supernatural grace and peace to face the cross. He received everything He needed to finish His purpose.

You will never face what He did, but whenever you feel overwhelmed with pressure, you can know that God will send angels. All the forces of darkness cannot stop what God has purposed for your life. You may be in a dark hour, you don’t see how you can face what’s in front of you. God has already dispatched the angels. He’s about to breathe strength and power and endurance into your spirit. You’re going to come out, not the same, but in the power of the Spirit.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when the difficulties in my way look bigger, stronger, and overwhelm me, You send the angels to help. Thank You that the forces of darkness can never keep me from my purpose. I believe that You have supernatural grace and the power of the Spirit for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Draw Close

Today's Scripture

When you draw close to God, God will draw close to you.James 4:8, TLB

You may have thought that if you didn’t want anything to do with God, He’d say, “Fine. I’ll blow you off, too. See if I ever help you.” God is not like that. He’s as close as the breath you breathe. All you have to do is call out, to draw close to Him, and He’s right there. He’s not holding the past against you. He’s not upset because you ignored Him. He’s not turned off because you didn’t believe in Him. He waited when you were off course. He waited when you had a bad attitude. He waited when you failed, when you were addicted, when you were compromising. He showed you mercy. He picked you up when you fell. He protected you when you chose the wrong friends. He stopped the accident that could have taken you out. He waited when you were upset because He didn’t answer your prayer. He’s waiting for you now. His arms are opened wide.

Why don’t you draw close to Him now. He’s promised to draw close to you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for who You are, so compassionate and merciful. Thank You that You are not holding my past against me. Thank You that I am forgiven. Thank You that I’m redeemed because of what Jesus did on the cross. I am drawing close to You right now and believing You are drawing close to me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
