gosh, it seemed relevant to me, the question speaks to the intent of this law......is it really about security issues, or is it directed at the muslim religion? If these women were Catholic nuns would France view the covering of the face as a security risk? Sometimes speculation as to intent is good....it makes us think about what the underlying motives are. Sorry you thought it wasn't relevant.
I'm not sure what I think about the law....I can see arguments for both sides, do you think this is a law we should have here? For security purposes I do think law enforcement should have the right to ask anyone with a covering over their face to remove it if that officer thinks it is necessary....like entering a public event.....or if identification needs to be made.......
I think what France does or does not do is not necessarily germane for us. You and I both know that US agencies have already lobbied against going fully covered. Recall the case regarding a muslim woman applying for a Florida (I think) driver's license and being denied because she refused to unveil. In this case (in which the document serves as an ID) I think it is appropriate.
Lest you think that going covered is a requisite to being a Muslim woman, think again. There are many women in the ME who do not go covered and many in Saudi (where it is demanded) actively crusade against going covered.

nope, never thought that. I do think some women prefer to wear veils, I can't imagine why, but they do.
