I disagree TM, first, I do believe that getting some kind agreement between the Israelis and the palestinians is crucial....neither side wants to give an inch on this so it's not going to be easy. I have always disagreed with the Israeli's settlements within what was to be palestinian terratory....that is just asking for trouble, and trouble is what they have gotten. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last time we have appeared to piss off the Israelis......nor should it be. We have our own interests at stake here and we should be doing what is best for the United States, not what is best for the Israelis. That is a tail wagging the dog if I ever saw one. We are NOT the Israeli's puppet, any more than we should let France, or Britain, or any other country decide what our policy is.
I doubt that Israel is concerned that the US wouldn't back them if they were attacked......saying we threw them under a bus is hyperbole. I believe that Obama wants them to get serious about settling the border with Palestine....It's in our best interests not to have an on-going war in the middle east between the two of them. Apparently Israel thinks differently.
All that aside, calling Obama a muslim, and his believing that to be true........ I find it hard to take anything else nmysys posts as having any value....
When agreements were made between Israel and the Palestinians, they were broken almost immediately by the Palestinians. There are factions on both sides that simply don't want peace. We should stay the hell out of it and let Israel handle its own problems.

Both sides are at fault. Since when is the US going along with Hamas, a named (by the US) terrorist organization that is coming into political power in Palestine.
The Palestinians had a chance during the 1948 war. They wanted ALL the land and if they couldn't have it, they would fight until they got it. I don't believe that has changed.
The Israelis don't have spotless hands either in this mess. Let's remember the hotels they bombed during that war (and not with planes).
One lobs missiles, the other side lobs them back. It's a mess and it won't be resolved in our lifetimes, regardless of your age right now.
My question is, if Israel gives in to the 1967 borders, will Hamas, the Palestinian people, and all the enemies of Israel finally decide that Israel has the right to exist? Is there any evidence at all that Israel will will be a safe place for it's people? The way I see it, Israel will be much harder to defend, and we are giving them the signal that they are on their own.
I also find it interesting that only Israel is forced to defend and hold land they fought for and won but other countries all over the planet (including the US) are not held to that same standard. I'll never understand why the Jews are universally hated given their history is one of genocide and a constant battle just to survive.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Must have been quite a battle for them to take all that land from those fierce stone throwers. I'll bet they live in constant fear of being hit by a rock.

I am certainly not in agreement that Israel is the poor innocent victim of the ruthless Palestinians but I also think that we should reserve our '67 borders comments for those times when Israel reacts to something with acutely lopsided force and murders a whole city. Nym is right in this - the Palestinians will never be our allies nor will most mid-eastern countries.
I don't think the Palestinians will ever be our allies either, but that doesn't justify continuing our decades long policy of looking the other way no matter what our ally Israel does. They haven't really cared much how what they do affects our relationships in the world, I'm not about to curl up in a corner and moan if they ARE a little ticked that we finally have taken moves to indicate we aren't going to support them right or wrong every time.
Really? Well that proves it. You are a anti-Semitic bullshi*t liar.
