Getting what we wanted would have meant a DC government limited to spending 18% of the nation's production every year instead of 25%. Getting what we wanted would have been a decrease in federal spending every year until spending met revenue instead of simply slowing down the growth rate of the spending.

FDR tried that in 1937, go back and see how that worked

It's called History, look into it

Ah..Hello Mcfly!

I think thats what just happened.. Your job killing, taking billions out of the economy, no taxes on the wealthy bill has been signed, sealed, and delivered

It's your baby now

Thats how I see it, and thats how the American people will see it in 2012

Um..... who just signed, sealed and delivered it?

So will America default in Obama's first term or his second?

There is no way he gets a second term.

It was all set in motion for disaster in 2010 when the voters, in a misguided attempt to vote in fiscal conservatives, believed the kool-aid the Tea Party was dishing out. The Tea Partiers are NOT fiscal conservatives, they are bent on destroying this economy any way they can so they can rebuild from the ashes. They have no intention of doing what is good for this country or it's citizens. Their scorched earth program will bring the economy down, and sooner rather than later. I wish it wasn't so......but we are already seeing the results of their meddling into an economy they do not understand, nor do they seem to want to.

You know the Republicans won with the bill the democrats came up with..They shoulda voted that job killing monstrosity in and layed everything in our lap, but no..They wanted a little more..Now it's all on them. Talk about snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory

Bad move guys

And now the Republicans are trying to distance themselves from this bill.....no wonder....it's a horrible bill, it doesn't fix anything and actually has made things worse. IF ONLY the tea partiers had been willing to compromise in the beginning we might have a decent bi-partisan bill that actually addressed the deficit and spending problems, instead they pushed and pushed till the 11th hour and we end up with a crap bill. Oh yeah, you are dead on VL......the economy going forward is on the tea party.......I hope the republicans are happy.

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that half of the Dems voted for this bill too?

I'm not ignoring that fact....they, like the more reasonable Republicans, held their collective noses and voted for the only bill available to avoid default on the debt. The point is....it should never have come to this bill or nothing. Boehner and Obama/Reid had a much better bill/compromise that would have gone after the deficit to the tune of $4 trillion.....but the tea party dug in it's heels and said no to Boehner......so we get the really, really horrible bill at the last minute. yep......this coming recession is all on the tea party for not playing well with others.

What you arm chair economists fail to grasp is that Corporate America is sittin on 2 1/2 trillion dollars right now, they don't need a tax break so they could sit on 3. They are not hiring or investing if they currently have the capacity to meet all the demands of all the consumer.. They don't need more cash to invest, what they need is more demand for their product, what they need is people spending money- We the people need more money and by decreasing spending, cutting jobs and attacking unions with the Bills you forced on us you Terrorists just put us into a depression, and we won't forget it.
