Hanging this one on the very people who tried to get our Nation to get serious about the debt is about as wrong as it gets. I just don't see it. If anything, it was the insistence of those on the left to "forget about the debt for now" that put us in this pickle. But people will believe what they want to believe. You are funny VL but intellectually dishonest in this post.

Don't believe me-READ THE S&P REPORT - IT EXPLAINS WHY THEY DID THIS!

We don't have to speculate

I just read it. It's not in a place I can cut and paste here but the jist of it is they are very concerned with the fact that Congress wasn't able to agree to more cuts in expenditures nor agree to ANY increases in revenues, ie, taxes. Basically they are saying the debt can't be paid off under the current plan. I agree, it can't.

Ok, but why even mention "intitlements" when we got multi million dollar choppers and guys in full combat gear flying out in front of my house in the national forest looking for Pot fields when pot is legal here!

Oh, this is going to be a lot more costly than what terrorists have done. But I'm sure the right-wing think tanks are even now spinning this all to be the Dems fault. Talking points should be popping up any time now.....

I think there is blame on both sides, because the Dems could have been willing to cut more entitlement spending then they did,

Really? I disagree..We gotta cut 100 things before we touch SS and Medicare, are you kidding?..Do we need the DEA, ATF, FBI, CIA, NSA, TSA, Homeland security and a defense budget that equals the rest of the worlds combined!? Do we?..I'm amazed how they got smart people to say: "the Dems could have been willing to cut more entitlement spending". Unreal, and read the S&P report. It blames everything on the debacle over the debt ceiling, they stated they are pessamistic about our government ability to govern in the future and all that blame lies squarly at the feet of the Hostage takers..Not the hostages!

Read the S&P's report- It blames republicans

I just read it. And while I agree that they are laying a lot of the blame on the refusal of the right to agree to increase revenue (taxes) as well as they do mention entitlement spending as well.

No question they didn't like the political blackmail over the tax issue, either.

I don't disagree there are many things that should be cut from the budget other than entitlement spending, but I also am concerned at how large it is growing at the current time. 45,000,000 people on food stamps is not sustainable long term.

Because entitlements are an actuarial nightmare at the present time with present trends. That matters to a financial institution. The military budget is a nightmare but for other reasons. Also please realize that S&P is a very pro-business institution. I'm not surprised they focused on entitlements, which they don't see as productive expenditure. Military expenditures at least prop up business. By the same token, the fact that they pretty bluntly spanked the Republicans in Congress is very, very significant.

Well for the first time ever in history Republicans tried to AMEND THE CONSTITUTION in a debt ceiling bill..

If you love the constitution so much leave it alone!

If Congress is at a standoff....who is the leader who is supposed to pull the fighters apart and sort it out? Who is the leader of this nation?

I honestly haven't read the report yet but seriously...how does what you just cited translate to "those crazy Tea Party folks"? Or is this a matter of people seeing or reading what they want to see or read?

They didn't come right and say "those crazy" anyone, but if you read between the lines it is clear as glass they think the shenanigans in Congress of the Tea Party faction refusing to even discuss increasing taxes were out of touch with reality and don't bode well for the ability of this Congress to competently handle this crisis.
