I Got Robbed Today!

Uncle Sam robbed me today.

I was expecting a very nice commission check for producing efforts. I got my check...the net results, a 47% tax beating.

Thank you Uncle Sam.

It's time to cut taxes! It's time to cut government expenses! It's time for Americans who produce to become free again.

Wow - perhaps you need to look at how your W4 is set up.

There are a lot of people out there who would be happy to make so much they owed 47% in taxes. Congrats on being so successful ....but all you wanna do is whine about it. Chill out and enjoy your good fortune.

Yeah, it actually CAN be your fault. If you don't have your deductions listed right, they take a ton out. That is FULLY on you - the companies you work for cannot and do not determine that info.

And if you are getting this on a 1099- well, welcome to paying all of it, including the part an employer normally pays.

I've done both - 1099 sucks cash right on out of your pocket.

But yes, DO blame te tax structure, because everyone knows that YOU cannot be responsible for your own pay. Being responsible for things in your life is much too hard, isn't it, T?

I have stated my W-4 exemptions correctly based upon my income and number of dependents.

KMA....you're a rude busy body.

It's taken me 3 F'n years to get to the point I am making decent income. I don't need some two bit nanny milking my social security contributions to tell me to suck it up because I am lucky. I have worked my @$$ off - and then to have the government take (or should I say confiscate) a significant chunk of my income sucks. But don't worry, I will gladly give up my production of dollars to Uncle Sam so he can sprinkle it around the country - in the meantime, I'll continue bust my hump so the government can buy solar panels and invest into a bankrupt laden industry.

Yes, if self employeed you pay the full 15.3% for SS and Medicare. But you get about half of that back subtracted from your gross income on your 1040 to calculate your adjusted gross income (forget if that includes the 2.9% Medicare portion).

And it shouldn't be 47% taken from your check, but I suppose it could happen for a bonus or commission (and I assume that includes CO state income tax). But you will get a refund for the excess when you file your taxes. As stated, you can adjust your W4 so they take less from your check to at least try to make up for it for the rest of the year.

How did you screw up so badly that you had 47% withheld when the top marginal tax rate is 35%? Are you including payroll taxes? If so, they only apply to the first $108,000. Glad you made it to that level.
