Ahhh yes, let's not pay taxes.

But then, when the highway is full of potholes, you cannot complain. When someone breaks into your house, don;t bother calling the cops - they no longer exist. Same if your house is on fire - hope your neighbor has a good well and a long hose. And be sure to homeschool those kids, cause schools are gone too.

Simple fact - your tax money pays for those services and more. Social contract as LJ said.

And if you are paying 47%, you REALLY need to speak with a financial advisor so you aren't getting screwed like that. But you should have a pretty refund in the spring, if you do your tax paperwork right.

I didn't "blame them only"... They just happen to be a pet peeve of mine... So, as usual, you're lying again.

And the Solyndra fiasco amounts to what, 1/100th-of-1% of the Defense budget? I didn't "conveniently" leave it out... It's just a drop in the bucket compared to $600 toilet seats, $400 hammers, and Tens-of-Billions in money paid to mercenaries like Blackwater...

O.k. let's assume that I didn't fill out my W-4 correctly and made a mistake on the number of exemptions....still at what tax percentage is fair?

15%, 20%, 25%, 35%, 40%, 50%?

I was expecting a very nice commission check for producing efforts. I got my check...the net results, a 47% tax beating.

Thank you Uncle Sam.

It's time to cut taxes! It's time to cut government expenses! It's time for Americans who produce to become free again.

Its easy to get to 47% if you are self employed middle class.

28+15+4= 47%

These are the marginal rates that are a dis-incentive to work extra over-time and a 2nd job. I used to do moonlight consulting work and got the same rates. Screw that.
This is why tax reform and lower marginal rates are needed.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

Then don't work... You obviously have me confused with someone who gives a flip....

You want some cheese with that whine?

By the way, I forget...Is that better or worse than the 50% marginal rate under Reagan?

Joe, I appreciate you breaking down the math for the knuckleheads. They would rather insult me and support the confiscation of my assets by the government than embrace facts. Their hatred is blinding them.

Oh, and lessee... That 28% is still the Bush tax-cut rate...right? and the 15% rate for self-employed is the same rate that's it's been for how many years?

Gee, this is all so confusing... We've got rates that were set in place by Reagan, and then lowered by Bush, and the usual whiners are crying about having to pay them, and remind me again how this is Obama's fault? I guess I'm missing something here....

Interesting - I have had some hefty checks in as self employed, and never over 23% tax, and the 15% for social security, etc.

Of course, I've also had checks in as self employed WITHOUT the taxes being taken out on the other end. If you are getting contractor pay, that should be on you, not on the person who hired you.

As a W2, also making decent, middle class wages, I've never had more than 23% total taken out.

Joe - the 4%? What is that?

RT- oh please - you assume we give enough of a crap to hate you.

Sorry, bucko - all your money is just not all your money. Never has been since 1862 - and even you are not that old to remember a time without it.

LH, it is the state tax rate. 4.65% (edit should have typed 4.63 oops!)

So really the numbers could be 28+15.3+4.63 Fed, Payroll, State.

Its the marginal rate that is the tax you pay on say an extra $1000 in pay, could be overtime or a second job, or an annual pay raise, or any other extra earned income.
