snip:We start from the premise that heating a house with wood, partly or totally, is environmentally appropriate (conditionally) and economically beneficial. That doing it is physically healthful, and that experiencing it is comforting to the body and soothing to the spirit. Big claims for a heating fuel.
Like any other human endeavor, wood heating can be done badly or well. Firewood can be harvested poorly, burned dirty and its heat wasted. The harmful behavior of those who burn wood badly has led to continual attacks in the media on the whole idea residential wood heating. The increasing public backlash and government response to wood smoke, particularly in urban areas, is of such concern to us here at woodheat.org that we created a new site called The Woodpile to serve as a place to discuss the future of wood heating. Please visit The Woodpile and give your views on the state of wood heating today.
While some users give wood heating a bad name, there are hundreds of thousands of responsible homeowners who burn wood well."
FHR- I really do like this one. I love reading about the tech behind renewable energy. I have not had the time lately to keep up with it ( uh has something to do with a certain 285 bound site. LOL) but I do like this site.
in my personal opinion Burt's Bees would go into the safe category as well

A great source of info explaining more about certified organic versus natural:

Many of the products listed in the "fake" organics list are verified by other certifying agencies:
To research the organic standards and definitions for other certifying agencies like EcoCert and Australian Certified Organic (ACO), see each agency's official Web site.
What it boils down to is each individual needs to read the label of every product and see if there is one (or more) ingredient(s) that specifically causes them problems. It doesn't necessarily mean that the products aren't all natural or organic, because we each have different tolerances for naturally occurring substances and no one product will work for all people without someone having a reaction to some ingredient.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
