We have several area Special District Elections happening tomorrow, which require residents to go to a polling place and vote in person. We will subsequently create a separate post for each in this topic with as much information as we have.
The Indian Hills Fire Protection District will be conducting a polling place election on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the fire station. At that time, THREE directors will be elected to serve 4-year terms. The candidates who have filed self-nomination forms and whose names will appear on the ballot are:
Ronald Walton originally moved to Indian Hills in 1979 to serve as the caretaker of Foss Chapel. He joined the Department as a responding member that same year and served until 2005, holding a number of officer positions during that time. Ron, a service technician for computer-controlled manufacturing equipment, served one term on the Board in 1988 and was appointed to another term in 2011. He currently serves on the Board.
Christopher Vigil is a Colorado native living in Indian Hills for the last five years. He is an elementary school teacher in Jefferson County looking to serve on the board for the first time. For the last two years, Chris and his wife have been heavily involved in the planning and execution of the Indian Hills Fun Run, in addition to the very successful Summer Movie and Music in the Park events. He has a deep respect for the Indian Hills Fire Rescue team and believes that serving on the board will help him to support them and our community.
Kelley Lehman has been a member of the Board since late 2011, Kelley is a teacher at Parmalee Elementary and has been a resident of Indian Hills for 24 years. She has experience in serving on the board of a nonprofit arts organization. Kelley enjoys that her role on the Board allows her to serve her community.
Marc Rosenberg, a resident of Indian Hills for more than 31 years, is Treasurer of the Board. In addition to being a Board member since early 2009, he has been a Department member for more than 16.5 years. His service as a firefighter allows him to bring an in-depth understanding of fire operations to his position on the Board. He is also very familiar with the District’s apparatus and involved in weekly maintenance. Marc serves as Collections and Distribution Manager for Evergreen Metro District.

Evergreen residents will decide whether the Evergreen Metropolitan and Upper Bear Creek Water & Sanitation districts should be consolidated on the May 8 ballot.
Residents of either district can vote at the Evergreen Metro Administration Building 30920 Stagecoach Blvd., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 8. The election is walk-in only; there are no mail-in ballots available to non-absentee voters.
According to EMD general manager Dave Lighthart, the Upper Bear district receives all its water and sewer treatment from Evergreen Metro, and consolidating into the EMD could save Upper Bear about $50,000 a year.

More candidates are vying for a spot on the Indian Hills Water District board of directors than in elections past, and many believe it’s a direct result of the district’s contentious year.
In the past year, the Indian Hills Water District, a special district serving about 400 homes and businesses and tasked with providing clean water to residents for domestic and commercial uses and fire protection, has experienced change. Water district board members have resigned; district employees have been fired; and accusations of wrongdoing have been made. But because of this, the community has started paying attention.
