Small Business Saturday Promotes Shop Local

Every year, American Express helps small businesses promote shopping locally on Small Business Saturday®, the movement they started in 2010. Now, 10 years later, small businesses face one of the greatest challenges ever: a worldwide pandemic that has seen millions of Americans lose their jobs, countless small businesses close, and many more struggle to keep going. According to the Amex-commissioned 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study, 62% of U.S. small businesses reported that they need to see consumer spending return to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2020 in order to stay in business. When you Shop Small® this holiday season – and all year long – you can help create a big impact.

When you Shop Small®, the dollars you spend at a local business in your community add up, and those dollars tend to stay in your community with those businesses hiring locally, sponsoring area schools' sports teams, nonprofits and fundraisers for those in need, and community events for us all to enjoy.

You help local artists further develop their creativity, kids have access to art classes and fun activities, and pets get the care they need.

You support your neighbors who run those businesses, so they can provide for their family, earn a living, and live the American Dream offering goods and services in the community they call home.

You support the environment shopping closer to home, reducing mileage on your vehicles, saving gas $$ and greenhouse emissions, and decreasing shipping from out-of-state vendors.

Our Chambers of Commerce are excellent resources for finding businesses you need, and organizing special events that help promote our area businesses and offer something fun for all of us to do. With the challenges caused by COVID-19, many of those favorite events have been canceled; but, the Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce has put together a "Light Up Conifer" holiday lights contest for businesses and residents alike, and created a Holiday Gift Guide to boost our local businesses! Learn how you can participate, and download the Holiday Gift Guide, by clicking here.
