Something Big in You

Today's Scripture

“O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me.” Nehemiah 1:11, NLT

Nehemiah did not have resources, did not have a prominent position, did not have experience as a builder, but he had a heart to see the walls and gates of Jerusalem restored, and he dared to believe. He dared to go to the king of Persia and ask his help. He dared to pray bold prayers, and he saw one amazing answer to prayer after another.

Don’t be intimidated by the size of your dream. God doesn’t give big dreams to small people. There is greatness in you. There are new levels in you. There is a world changer in you. There is a history maker in you. That’s why God put something big in you. He knows what you’re capable of. As with Nehemiah, He has people who will fund your dreams, people who will use their influence to open doors, people who will go out of their way to be good to you. You’re going to accomplish dreams bigger than you thought possible. Don’t talk yourself out of it. Pray bold prayers and give God permission to bless you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that the dreams You have put in my heart are always possible because no one is more powerful than You. Thank You that I can dare to pray big, to ask big, and to believe big. I believe that You are already moving the right people into place to help me as well. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When the Enemy Roars

Today's Scripture

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper...” Isaiah 54:17, NKJV

We all have things that come against us—things that are frightening, things we don’t understand. Sometimes it seems everything is going well, and then the unexpected happens. We experienced that last Sunday. But the Scripture says, “No weapon formed against you will prosper.” That means that no matter what the enemy tries to throw at you, God has the final say.

In Jeremiah 5, God says, “I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it.” Though the ocean may be a billion times bigger and more powerful than the sand, because of God, the sand will not be overpowered.

When the enemy roars at you like waves roaring at the beach, roar back at him. When thoughts roar, “This is the end,” roar back, “The Most High God is my protector. He goes before me and behind me. I will not fear.” Don’t let the enemy have the last roar. God’s promises will prevail. Now tell the ocean to go back.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your divine protection. Thank You that when the enemy roars, I can roar back. I believe You have a hedge of protection around me. You are fighting my battles, and no weapon formed against me will prosper. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Rely on Signs

Today's Scripture

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29, NIV

When Thomas heard that Jesus had risen from the dead, he said that he wouldn’t believe unless he saw the physical evidence. You haven’t seen it, but you keep believing. God says that because you believe without a sign, blessing is coming, healing is coming, victory is coming. Don’t be a Thomas and say, “God, show me a sign, open this door, change my circumstances, then I’ll believe.” God is looking for people who believe without a sign, who don’t need the evidence to prove to them that He is working.

It’s great when you get a sign, but don’t rely on signs. Don’t become dependent on seeing first and then believing. Your faith needs to kick in when there’s no evidence. Instead of asking God to prove to you what He’s going to do, turn it around and prove to God who you are. Prove to Him that you’re not going to be moved by what you don’t see or give up because things aren’t changing. Prove that you’re going to stand in faith when every circumstance says it’s never going to happen.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are sovereign and worthy of my unconditional trust. There are things in my life that I don’t understand, situations I want to see changed, but even if things don’t happen the way I hope, I’m still going to trust You. I am going to stand in faith and be blessed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Lion Proof

Today's Scripture

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Daniel 6:10, NLT

Daniel was serving the king of Persia and was noted as having an excellent spirit and great wisdom. He consistently maintained his faith while living in a foreign land and refused to waver even when the king issued a decree that no one could pray to anyone but him. Despite the threats, he kept praying to Jehovah and ended up being thrown into the lions’ den. But when you have this attitude of faith, God will fight your battles for you. He sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions.

That’s what happens when you live your days exercising your faith. When you’re in a difficult situation, you rest in faith knowing that the same God who kept Daniel safe in the lions’ den has put a hedge of protection around you. You don’t shrink back in fear with thoughts such as, “Why is this happening to me?” Instead, you rise up in faith and say, “I am lion proof. I am coming out stronger, increased, and promoted just as with Daniel. God is even in control of my enemies.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the One who opens doors and gets me to where I want to be. Show me if there is anything that is holding me back from having an excellent spirit. I declare that I will be faithful and not shrink back and take the easy way out when pressure comes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Refined

Today's Scripture

“See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.” Isaiah 48:10, NIV

The Scripture talks about the “furnace of affliction,” where you could either give up and get sour or you can say, “God, I’ll show You what I’m made of. I’ll forgive those who hurt me. I’ll keep believing even though it looks impossible. I’ll stay in faith even though it was unfair.” When you pass those tests, something is deposited inside that nothing can take away. There is a trust, a confidence, a knowing that can be developed only by going through the fire of affliction. I’ve learned that God is not as interested in changing my circumstances as He is in changing me.

Where you are today is not nearly as important as who you are becoming. While God is changing the “where,” allow Him to change the “who.” God puts us in the furnace to refine us, to take out the impurities, the selfishness, impatience, anger, and resentment. If you let God refine you and make the necessary changes in your life so you treat people well and handle disappointments without complaining, you can be used for God’s highest purposes.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are refining my life with fire and using the pressure of challenges to make me stronger and grow my character. Thank You that every test of my faith is preparing me to overcome and persevere, to go higher and increase. I believe that I am coming out better. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Health Restored

Today's Scripture

“For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD. Jeremiah 30:17, NKJV

Too often we consider only what we can see and only where we are right now. We analyze and do projections based only upon the cold hard facts. But there are times when every circumstance and every report says, “It’s impossible,” and we have to determine to focus on God and His power to supersede what’s in the natural. The economy may be down, but God says He will prosper you even in the desert. Your checking account may say you will not make the mortgage payment, but God says He will supply all of your needs. Your medical report may say your only option is to live with the sickness, but God says, “I will restore health to you.”

Are you considering your circumstances? Or are you considering your God? He is called “the Great I Am.” He’s saying, “I am everything you need. If you’re struggling, I’m your provider. If you’re worried, I’m your peace. If you’re in trouble, I’m your deliverer. If you need a break, I’m your favor. Look to Me, and I will show up and do amazing things.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Great I Am with power to supersede any need I have. Thank You that I have Your promise that You will restore health to me when the facts say I have to live with a sickness. I declare that my focus is upon You to do the impossible. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Right Mirror

Today's Scripture

If someone listens to God’s word but doesn’t do what it says, he is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror, studies his features, goes away, and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1:23–24, GW

James says that God’s Word is like a mirror. It reflects who you really are. What God says about you is the true image that you need to keep in front of you. You are not defined by people, by your past, by how you were raised, or by what didn’t work out. You are defined by your Creator. When you look in the mirror of God’s Word, you’ll see that you are valuable, talented, confident, favored, blessed, and worthy. You have to see it on the inside before it will happen on the outside. You have to start seeing yourself as whole, as free, as forgiven and clean, as redeemed and restored. Start seeing yourself as blessed, prosperous, crowned with favor, one of a kind. As you see yourself as God sees you, it begins to heal a damaged self-image, to repair the hurts and scars that have caused you to see yourself as lacking, inferior, unqualified. It may not happen overnight, but if you keep seeing yourself the right way, little by little you’re going to become what you’re seeing.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have made me the way I am and that what You say about me is my true image. Thank You that Your Word defines me rather than what other people say about me or what has happened in my past. I declare that I am becoming more and more like who You say I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Sweet-Smelling Aroma

Today's Scripture

And the smoke and fragrant aroma of the incense, with the prayers of the saints (God’s people), ascended before God from the angel’s hand. Revelation 8:4, AMP

Do you realize that when you give God praise, you’re putting off an aroma that attracts Him? God can smell praise. He’ll pass over person after person, then he comes to you and smells that sweet aroma. He hears you thanking Him, going around being grateful, talking about how blessed you are, declaring His promises. I can imagine God saying to the angels, “I smell something. Do you smell it? There’s a sweet-smelling aroma coming up. Who’s it coming from?” Your praise will attract God. He’ll pass over a host of people and find the one who is full of praise, who has a report of victory, who is talking about how big their God is and not how big their problem is.

Are your attitudes and your words putting off sweet-smelling aromas? Or are you creating stinky attitudes and negative talk and living worried? That’s pushing God away. If you want to attract favor, joy, peace, and creativity, start sending up some praise. Start thanking God for what He’s done. Start bragging on His goodness. Start declaring victory over your life.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the powerful vision of the worship and praise that surrounds Your throne at all times. Thank You that You are listening for my praise, to my every prayer, to the gratitude in my heart, and to my declarations of Your promises. Help me to give off a sweet-smelling aroma wherever I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Faith to Believe

Today's Scripture

I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. Nehemiah 2:12, NIV

When Nehemiah heard that the walls and gates of Jerusalem had been torn down, there was nothing he could do about it. He was a cupbearer to the king of Persia, living in exile a thousand miles away. But suddenly God dropped a desire in Nehemiah to rebuild those walls. It didn’t make sense to his mind. He didn’t have the staff, the resources, or the experience. But with the desire came a new boldness, a confidence, the faith to believe for what seemed impossible. He went to the king, and amazingly the king not only sent Nehemiah but supplied him the materials and funds to do it.

Notice that God not only puts desires in you, but He puts the favor on you so you can see that desire come to pass. When it’s a destiny desire, there’s a force breathing in your direction, pushing you forward, opening doors, causing people to be good to you. You’re not stressed over how it’s going to happen; you know it’s going to happen. Get ready for where God is about to take you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You never give me the desire to do something without the power and favor to do it. Thank You that I don’t have to make it all happen on my own or manipulate people to help me. I’m going to keep You first place and watch You work out Your plans for my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

No Record Book

Today's Scripture

Love...keeps no record of being wronged. 1 Corinthians 13:4–5, NLT

You might see your relationship with someone go to a whole new level if you just get rid of the record book. Some people have a mental list of everything anybody has done wrong to them for the last twenty years. They have a detailed scorecard, listing every time their spouse hurt them, every time their boss was thoughtless or rude, every time their parents missed a grandchild’s game.

As long as you are bringing up pain from the past, you are going to have strife in your present. You may be right about what happened, but do you want to be right, or do you want to have peace in a relationship? Do you want to have your way, or do you want to have a healthy relationship? Instead of keeping a list of slights or offenses, it could change your life greatly if you get in the habit of throwing out your negative record book. Learn to cover the weaknesses in the people who are close to you and focus on the good. Believe the best in people and move on.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for loving me, for forgiving me, and for not keeping a record of my sins and failures. I want to be someone who loves others with Your love, who covers their faults and weaknesses and doesn’t bring them up. Help me to focus on the good and keep moving on. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
