Possess the Land

Today's Scripture

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him…then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. Deuteronomy 30:15–16, NIV

Even though the first generation of Israelites that came out of slavery in Egypt had seen great miracles and were finally free, they turned back from entering the Promised Land when they saw the fortified cities and giants. They believed the wrong story that God would not make them victorious, that they always would be a defeated people. They came out of Egypt, but Egypt never came out of them.

Forty years later, the second generation had a different story. Their attitude was that they were going to see the fulfillment of today’s Scripture. They would not let their doubts, their fears, or the opposition rewrite their story and keep them in the wilderness. They saw themselves as sons and daughters of the Most High God. They were going to enjoy the abundance and blessings that their parents could have had. Don’t do as their parents did and let a wrong story—what you’ve been through, what looks too big—convince you that you can’t defeat your giants, you can’t accomplish your dream, or you can’t be healthy, successful, and fulfilled.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are always greater than any difficulty or adversity I will ever face. Thank You that my story is not that of a defeated slave, but I am well able to go in and take possession of the land. I believe that You are going to help me defeat giants and strongholds. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Abounding Grace

Today's Scripture

But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. Romans 5:20, NKJV

You haven’t superseded your allotment of grace. You haven’t made a mistake so big that God ran out of mercy. Instead of living condemned, why don’t you go boldly to the throne of God and receive that grace and forgiveness. God is waiting to gladly welcome you. But here’s the key: He won’t force you to come. In Luke 15, the compassionate father didn’t make the prodigal son return home. It was the young man’s choice after allowing sin to abound in his life. When he took steps to return to his father, his father came running with grace and mercy that was much more abounding.

When we feel the guilt and condemnation, we have to know that grace abounds much more. God sees our failures already covered by Jesus’ blood. Now we have to receive the forgiveness and see ourselves without fault. When you became a child of the Most High God, He made you worthy. You are the righteousness of God. It’s not your righteousness; it’s His righteousness. Lift your head and see yourself as God sees you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I have been freely justified by Jesus’ redemption and that Your grace is abounding in me. Thank You that the power of Your grace rules over where sin has abounded in my life. I believe that Your grace has no limits. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Unequaled Greatness

Today's Scripture

Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Psalm 150:2, NLT

You realize just how limited you are, but God is unlimited. We’re natural, but He’s supernatural. When you don’t see a way out, you’ll be tempted to complain. No, turn it around and praise Him for who He is. “Lord, praise You that You’re bigger than this sickness. Praise You that You’re stronger than this addiction. Praise You that You’re greater and more powerful than this trouble or these people.” You could be sending up doubt, defeat, and complaints, but you’re bragging on the goodness of God and sending up praise that sets miracles into motion. That’s when God will show up and do what you cannot do.

Sometimes we’re waiting for circumstances to change, then we’ll give God praise, then we’ll have a good attitude, but that’s backward. You have to praise God first. You have to have that song in your heart when nothing is changing. God is still on the throne. Keep thanking Him that He’s working. Keep declaring that you’re coming through this. Let every breath you take be with praise to the Lord.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are unequaled in greatness and worthy of my highest praise. Thank You that You reign over all the circumstances of my life and that You are with me. As long as I have breath, I will praise You and believe You are defeating the challenges in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

An Exceedingly Abundant Year

Today's Scripture

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20, NKJV

I believe this is going to be a year where God exceeds your expectations. He’s not going to do just what you’re asking for; He’s going to exceed it. He’s going to open doors you never dreamed would open. He’s going to take you further than you’ve imagined. You’re going to look back and say, “I never dreamed I would be this blessed. I never dreamed I would get this position. I never dreamed I would overcome this addiction. I never dreamed I would feel this healthy.”

Get ready. This is a new year, and God is doing a new thing. He’s about to exceed your expectations. He’s about to do things that you’ve never imagined. He’s going to make things happen that you couldn’t make happen. One touch of His favor will catapult you where you could not go on your own. God is releasing healing, favor, opportunities, breakthroughs, promotion, and freedom. You didn’t have to work for it, you didn’t earn it, and you didn’t deserve it. It’s just the goodness of God, showing His favor on your life.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You think extraordinary, You think abundance, and You think freedom. Help me to expect that You will exceed my expectations in this coming year. I believe and declare that You are doing exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

You Are Very Powerful

Today's Scripture

Solomon son of David took firm control of his kingdom, for the LORD his God was with him and made him very powerful. 2 Chronicles 1:1, NLT

At the start of this new year, you may be facing situations that look too big. The opposition is too strong, the dream too great. It’s easy to have a weak mentality, to feel intimidated, as though you’re at a disadvantage. This is probably the way Solomon felt when his father, David, died. David was an amazing leader who had conquered nations and defeated giants. Solomon wasn’t a warrior king like his father, but he was suddenly thrust into this position. I’m sure he was tempted to shrink back and think, “This is too much. I can’t lead a nation.” But today’s Scripture says that he took firm control of the kingdom, for the Lord was with him and made him very powerful.

You may see yourself as limited, not enough, less-than, but the Lord your God is with you. He has made you not just powerful, but very powerful. What you’re up against may be big, but it’s no match for you. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. You’re not ordinary. You’re not common. You are very powerful.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that every force of the enemy was broken when Jesus rose from the dead. Thank You that You have given me Your power and that there will be no situation in this coming year that is too big or opposition too strong. I declare that You have made me very powerful. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Due Season Year

Today's Scripture

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9, NKJV

You have things that you’ve been believing for, dreams you want to accomplish, problems that you’re hoping will turn around. Why not believe that you are coming into a due season year when you’re going to see God show out in your life? In this due season year, God is going to cause promises you’ve been standing on and dreams you’ve been praying about to fall into place. In this due season, He’s going to make things happen that you could never make happen on your own.

You may have been trying to break an addiction for years. The good news is, this is your due season. This is your year to be free. Maybe you’ve struggled in your finances and can’t seem to get ahead. Let this sink down into your spirit: Due season is here. Promotion is coming, increase is coming, good breaks are coming. Lack is not your destiny. Constantly struggling, not having enough, that’s not the end of your story. Keep being faithful, keep honoring God. Abundance is on the way. In this due season, your cup is going to overflow.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the promise that I will reap a harvest as long as I keep doing what’s right and not lose heart. Thank You that You are working behind the scenes in ways that I could never imagine. I will trust in You whether I’m seeing any signs or not, knowing that it’s my due season year. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Give Ear To

Today's Scripture

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27, NIV

How many times is God speaking to us throughout the day but we’re not sensitive to it? Perhaps it’s just a whisper, “Slow down on the freeway. Be kinder to your spouse. Call your friend and give her some encouragement. Turn off the computer and get some more sleep. Take care of yourself.” Gentle whispers. They’re not loud. God is not going to force you to do it. It’s just an impression. The word “obey” in the original language means “give ear to.” To be obedient, you have to give your ear to what God is saying. You have to be a listener. Be sensitive to the whisper. What are you feeling in your spirit? It may not be words, just a knowing deep down of what you’re supposed to do. Other voices, thoughts, reasonings, and people’s opinions will be much louder, but you have to learn to give the whispers the most attention. When you let the still small voice be the voice you follow, you’ll make the best decisions.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You speak to me throughout my day in gentle whispers in my spirit. Help me to give ear to what You are saying rather than push it down or ignore it. I will listen to Your still small voice and obey. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Built Any Altars Lately?

Today's Scripture

Jacob built an altar there and named the place El-bethel (which means “God of Bethel”), because God had appeared to him there when he was fleeing from his brother, Esau.Genesis 35:7, NLT

As Jacob did in today’s Scripture, we can all look back in life and see times when God made a way. We knew it was His hand that protected us from a car crash, promoted us when we didn’t deserve it, brought us through a loss. Those weren’t just coincidences. In the Old Testament, when these things happened, people took time to build an altar to thank God for what He had done. They would look back at those altars, and that was fuel for their faith. They knew that if He did it back then, He would do it again.

We should still be building altars today. It’s easy to get so busy that we don’t recognize the blessing of God. But when you take time to acknowledge what God has done, you recognize He brought you safely through a sickness, gave you that person to love, opened a door that’s taken you further than you ever imagined. When you pause to say, “God, I recognize this is Your goodness. Thank You for Your favor and mercy,” that’s building an altar.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the strength that rises within me whenever I remember what You have done in my life. Thank You for the countless times You made a way when it seemed there was no way and You opened doors that seemed closed. I will build my altars and remember Your goodness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Do You Want What You’re Saying?

Moses had led the Israelites out of slavery to the border of the Promised Land. God had promised they would defeat their enemies and live in abundance. They had this great report of victory, but then the other report from ten spies said the enemy was too big and powerful. Rather than believe God, the Israelites let fear dominate their thoughts, and they begin to complain against Him. “We’ll never get in. We’re going to die out here in the desert.” It’s significant that God answered them and said, “I will do exactly what I heard you say. You will all die in the desert.” They didn’t realize that by speaking it out, they were prophesying their future.

If God were to do exactly what you’re saying today, would it be what you want? Are you speaking victory, health, abundance, freedom, and new levels? Or are you talking about how big the giants are, what you’ve been through in the past, how you can’t accomplish your dreams or break an addiction? Don’t let tongue trouble keep you out of your promised land.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are always greater than any difficulty or adversity I will ever face. Thank You that You are listening as I declare that, based upon Your promise, I am well able to go in and take the land. I believe that You are going to bring me to the next level. Take Your Promised Land

Today's Scripture

They answered Joshua, “We will do whatever you command us, and we will go wherever you send us.” Joshua 1:16, NLT

When God brought the Israelites out of slavery and took them to the Promised Land, He promised that all they had to do was go in and take the land. But the Israelites were too afraid of the people in the land and turned away. They spent forty years in the desert running from things that God promised they could conquer. The next generation of Israelites came back to the Promised Land, saw the same giants and fortified cities, but had a different attitude. They refused to spend their lives wandering in the desert. They declared to Joshua that they would do whatever he commanded, face the opposition, and take the same land their parents could have had.

Don’t be like the Israelites and spend years of your life running from things God has already given you victory over. You may need to confront pride, confront a bad attitude, or confront compromise. When you face your fears, defeat bad habits, or forgive the wrongs and hurts others have caused, you will enter your promised land. The victory is already yours.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and that no giant or stronghold is too great for You. Thank You that You are leading me into my promised land as I confront and face areas of my life that have held me back. Help me to be bold to take my promised land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
