Make Up Your Mind

Today's Scripture

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. James 1:5–7, NIV

Today’s Scripture is talking about wisdom, but the principle is that when you ask God for something, be sure you really expect Him to answer. Sometimes we go to God hoping and wishing that something will happen. How about going to God with confidence, knowing that when you ask in faith, He will answer you? It says God will gladly give you wisdom. He loves for you to come to Him. He’s longing to be good to you. But if you’re going to see good things happen, you have to come to Him expecting an answer. And when you ask, believe that you receive it. By faith, believe that it happened.

You have to make up your mind. Are you going to believe what God promised you, or are you going to let doubt, negative voices, or other opinions convince you it’s not going to happen? “You can’t get well. You’ll never break the addiction. You’ll never be successful.” Do yourself a favor and tune that out. Don’t let doubt keep you from your destiny. Have an unwavering mind.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the expectancy rising in my heart that You have good things in store for me. Thank You that my hopes and dreams can be in You alone. I believe and declare that doubt is not going to keep me from what You have in store. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Destiny Lies Ahead

Today's Scripture

The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” 1 Samuel 16:1, NIV

God had told Samuel to anoint Saul to be the first king of Israel. I can see Samuel taking Saul, who wasn’t trained in leadership, under his wing, encouraging him, giving him advice and counsel. He wanted him to succeed so badly. Saul started off well, but over time he started compromising and lost the kingdom. God told Samuel, “I regret that I ever made Saul king.” Samuel got so discouraged by what didn’t work out, wondering why Saul didn’t do better, that God finally told Samuel he had mourned long enough over what was lost. The nation’s destiny lie ahead in the next choice, David, who became the greatest king who ever lived.

As with Samuel, you may have done your best, given your heart and soul, but you didn’t get the position, the relationship didn’t make it, or the business didn’t succeed. It wasn’t fair or your fault, but your destiny is not in what you lost, it’s in what you have left. If you stop mourning your loss, you’ll come into something greater, something better, something more fulfilling than you’ve ever imagined.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for new dreams, new relationships, new beginnings, and new seasons. Thank You that after a season of disappointment and mourning over a Saul, You already have a David lined up. I look forward to something greater and more fulfilling than I’ve ever imagined. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Pray Some Bold Prayers

Today's Scripture

“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22, NKJV

Are you basing your prayers on your ability, your connections, your finances? Are you praying from a natural, logical point of view? You’re going to miss the fullness of what God has in store. Don’t limit Him to only what you think can happen. Take the limits off. Pray some bold prayers. Dream some big dreams. If you can accomplish your dream in your own ability, with your connections and your finances, then your dream is too small. God has things in your future that you haven’t seen, levels that you haven’t imagined. When you don’t limit Him by the logical, you can believe even when your mind says, “That’s too far out. You’ll never get well, never start your business, never see your family restored.” When all the odds are against you, you’re in perfect position for God to show out in your life, to do something that you’ve never seen. The Most High God is on your side. He hasn’t forgotten what He promised you. Now do your part. Ask Him for your dreams.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when the odds are against me, You are on my side. Thank You that nothing and no one is more powerful than You and that I can dare to pray bold prayers. I believe that You are going to bless me with answers that are beyond my imagination. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Be a Joseph

Today's Scripture

When [Joseph’s] master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did…Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. Genesis 39:3–4, NIV

After Joseph had been sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, he worked for a high-ranking military official in Egypt, running his household. He could have lived offended and been bitter, but he left it in God’s hands. He never complained or slacked off. He kept being his best. But Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph of trying to harm her, and Joseph was thrown in prison for years. He went from being disowned by his brothers to a slave to a prisoner with no reputation. But Joseph trusted God to be his vindicator, kept doing the right thing in prison, and the day finally came when he so impressed Pharaoh that he was made the prime minister of Egypt.

As with Joseph, you may face a season of disrespect, with people damaging your reputation. God sees you doing the right thing, being a Joseph—not angry or holding a grudge. Pharoah is coming for you. The right people are going to show up. Vindication is coming. It’s going to happen quickly. Suddenly you’re going to see vindication, restoration, promotion, honor, and influence.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your presence and favor in my life that no situation or person can take away. Thank You that my reputation and the respect I’m given are in Your hands. I believe that You are always my vindicator and my part is to just keep doing the right thing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Amazing

Today's Scripture

Jesus wept. John 11:35, NIV

One of the beauties of our God is that He feels what we feel. When Jesus saw Mary and Martha weeping over the death of their brother, Lazarus, “Jesus wept.” He was “deeply moved in spirit and troubled” by their tears. He could feel their heartbreak, their sorrow. There are times when life throws us such a blow that all we can do is weep. What’s interesting is that Jesus already knew He was going to raise Lazarus, yet He entered into their sorrow and began to weep with them. Know this: When you weep, God weeps. When you’re heartbroken, God feels it. When you don’t think you can go on, when you feel overwhelmed, God is right there with you. The Scripture says, “He is close to the brokenhearted.”

God used sorrow to prepare Mary and Martha for something amazing—a resurrection. Tears of sorrow gave way to tears of joy, laughter, and celebration. When you’re in a season of struggle and weeping, keep this promise in your spirit: “I know joy is coming. God is about to amaze me.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I never have to wonder about Your unconditional love for me even in the most difficult times. Thank You that You feel what I feel, You weep when I weep, and You are always for me. I declare that I am going to live securely, knowing that You always amaze me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Sound of Abundance

Today's Scripture

Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” 1 Kings 18:41, NKJV

For over three years it had not rained in Israel—no water, no crops, a great famine. When there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and no hint of rain, the prophet Elijah showed up and said, “I hear the sound of the abundance of rain.” He made this bold declaration to King Ahab. God will sometimes put things in your spirit that contradict what you see. He heard an abundance of rain, but he saw barren ground, dried-up crops, drought. The key is to not let what you see override what you’ve heard. If you’re always looking for a sign, you’re going to get discouraged. “I heard the promise of healing, but I see sickness. I heard abundance, but I see lack. I heard freedom, but all I see is addiction.”

Stay in faith when there’s no evidence. Don’t let what you see talk you out of what you’ve heard. Elijah soon saw a downpour. It’s very powerful when you can say, “I don’t see any sign of what I’m believing for, but God’s on the throne. Rain is on the way.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for all the ways You speak to me about what is coming. Thank You that You are in no way limited to what my circumstances look like and have been. Help me to have the boldness to speak out the words that You say and set a miracle in motion. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The God Who Marvels

Today's Scripture

And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. Mark 6:5–6, ESV

In Mark 6, Jesus was in His hometown of Nazareth, teaching in the synagogue. They had heard about the miracles He was doing, and they were amazed by the wisdom of His teaching. But they didn’t believe. They thought they knew who He was. They knew His family. He had worked among them as a carpenter. They thought there couldn’t be anything special about Him. Because of their unbelief, He couldn’t do any mighty miracles there even though He had all His power. He had gone to different cities, doing amazing things. You would think in His hometown, they would believe more than anywhere else, but it was just the opposite. Jesus marveled at their unbelief.

When God looks at you, what does He marvel at? Is there anything you’re believing for that will cause God to marvel? Is there anything you’re dreaming about that’s out of your reach, that you can’t accomplish, that’s too big, too much, too hard? It’s time to awaken your faith and cause God to be amazed. Dare to believe bigger, dare to ask, dare to dream.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your Beloved Son who is everything He says He is and is still doing mighty works today. Thank You that I can put unbelief far from me and awaken my faith to believe and ask bigger than I ever have. I want my faith to amaze You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Do Some Serious Cleaning

Today's Scripture

Asa conducted himself well before GOD, reviving the ways of his ancestor David. He cleaned house…and threw out all the idols his predecessors had made. 1 Kings 15:11–12, MSG

Sometimes we’ve believed the same destructive, limiting, defeating thoughts so long that they’ve become a part of who we are. Perhaps it started in how we were raised. We opened the door and now it’s like they have their own room. Imagine fear, worry, doubt, and insecurity living in your house, dragging you down, stealing your joy, taking your peace. That may be the way it’s been, but this is going to be a new day. It’s time to do some serious house cleaning as King Asa did. You need to evict some tenants that have been living in your mind.

The good news is that you’re in charge. You determine what stays in your mind. You need to tell fear, “You’re evicted. I’m not living afraid of what might happen. My future is in God’s hands.” Tell worry, “You’ve been with me long enough. You’ve lost your lease.” Tell doubt, “Your time is up. I have some new rules. You have to go.” Tell insecurity, “You’re no longer welcome here. Get out. I’m not going to be intimidated by you.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can take the bold steps to remove the negative, defeating thoughts that I need to get out of my life. I can’t do it on my own, so I ask You for help to break and get rid of whatever needs to be removed. Help me clean my house. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Time to Give Thanks

Today's Scripture

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4, NIV

Today is a special day for us to give thanks to God for the good things He has done in our land, in our lives, and in the lives of our family members. When you take the time to pause and remember, you can see those times in your life when God brought you victory, brought you success. When you remember that He is providing for all your needs and give thanks to God for who He is and the miracles He has done in your life, you will be transformed.

And let us remember that thanksgiving is an attitude of our heart. Living with an attitude of gratitude means you don’t just thank God for what He did in the past, you also thank Him for what He will do in the future. You thank Him for opening new doors, for increasing you, and for bringing the right people into your life. When you thank God in advance, that’s really a declaration of faith. Live every day with an attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can enter into Your presence with a heart full of thanksgiving. Thank You for providing for all my needs and doing exceedingly abundantly above all I could ever ask or imagine. I give You a sacrifice of praise for You are good, and Your mercy endures forever! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s Not Too Big

Today's Scripture

“Am I a dog,” he roared at David, “that you come at me with a stick?” And he cursed David by the names of his gods. 1 Samuel 17:43, NLT

Just before David went out to face Goliath, King Saul had told David that it was ridiculous to try, that he was just a boy, and that Goliath was a man of war. When Goliath saw how small David was, he immediately made fun of him, ridiculed him. He was saying, “Is this teenager the best you have? He’s not even worth my time.” David’s father and his brothers had also reinforced this lie, saying, “David, you’re not enough, and you’ll never be enough. It’s too big.”

To reach your destiny, you have to tune out all the naysayers, the intimidations, the “can’t do it” thoughts. When people are discounting you, that’s a sign you’re right where you’re supposed to be. God is positioning you to defy the odds, to go where no one in your family has gone, to break generational curses, to bring down giants, to set new standards. Don’t get discouraged when people don’t believe in you and try to talk you out of it. That means God is about to catapult you to new levels as He did with David.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I am not limited by what the enemy or people around me say or think about me. Thank You that You have qualified me to do what You have destined me to do. I will not allow others to put a limitation on what You have put in my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
