Tongue Trouble

Today's Scripture

“Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” Joel 3:10, NKJV

One thing that can keep us from our destiny is tongue trouble. If we go around saying negative things about ourself, our family, or our future, it will limit how high we can go. When you say, “I’ll never be successful. I’m not talented. I can’t break this addiction. I always get the flu. After what they did, I’ll never be happy again,” you’re giving those words the right to come to pass. You’re prophesying your future. You’re inviting that into your life. Before you say it, make sure you want it.

Get your words going in the right direction. You can’t talk negative and have a positive life. You can’t talk defeat and lack and live victoriously and in abundance. Your words set the course for your life. If you want to know what you’re going to be like five years from now, listen to what you’re saying about yourself. You have to quit speaking defeat over your future and start prophesying victory over your life. Start talking about the way you want to be. Speak health, speak vitality, and speak abundance.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that my words give life to my faith and I can use my words to prophesy my future. Thank You that I can use my words to invite healing, freedom, abundance, and strength into my life. I will say what You say about me and what You promise in Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

More Than a Conqueror

Today's Scripture

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37, NIV

The apostle Paul experienced all kinds of persecution, hardships, suffering, and heartache. Many people did unfair things to him; others lied about him. Nevertheless, he said, “In spite of all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ.” That’s the kind of attitude we need to have. Paul realized that we can have trouble and challenges all around us yet have peace inside. We don’t use our faith to try to get rid of our problems. Rather, we use our faith to remain calm in the midst of our problems and live in victory.

Every day you will have opportunities to lose your peace. Somebody may be rude to you, or your boss may not give you credit for what you’ve done, or someone may walk away from your relationship. Maybe you’ve been in a difficult situation for a long time, and you’re tempted to lose your peace over what you can’t change. Paul says to turn the situation completely over to God, knowing that nothing can separate you from the love of God. Stay at rest in the God who is in control.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the promise of an overwhelming victory through Jesus. Thank You for Your love and that I am Your child, a victor and not a victim of circumstances. I’m going to stay in peace knowing that no obstacle that stands in my way can stop Your plan. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Redeemed

Today's Scripture

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” Galatians 3:13, NIV

The curse that Christ has already redeemed us from is behind any kind of defeat—sin, mistakes, wrong choices, fear, worry, sickness, or unhealthy relationships. God has loosed our chains of addictions, defeats, and bad attitudes. But if you don’t realize you have been set free and take advantage of your freedom, if you don’t get your thoughts, your words, and your attitudes going in the right direction, it won’t do you any good.

Every enemy in your life has already been defeated—enemies of worry, depression, addiction, financial lack—and you have power over all of them. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is inside you. There is nothing in your life that you cannot overcome. But you may be sitting back waiting for God to do something supernatural in your life when God is waiting for you. You have to believe that the price has been paid and you have the power to break free from things that have held you back in the past. Put your foot down and take hold of everything Christ has done for you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have made me Your child and that I am no longer under the curse of the law. Thank You that You redeemed me and You’re taking me forward into full freedom. I believe that every enemy in my life has been defeated and that the obstacles in my way will be overcome. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A True Friend

Today's Scripture

“The Son of Man…‘a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’” Luke 7:34, NIV

Jesus was the friend of sinners. He lived as a healer, a restorer of those who got off course. Somebody once said, “A true friend walks in when everybody else walks out. A true friend doesn’t rub it in when you make a mistake. They help rub it out.” That is exactly what Jesus did, and that is what we should do. It doesn’t mean you overlook wrongs and act as if they never happened. But you understand that if it were not for the grace of God, you, too, could be in need of healing. When you show mercy to the guilty, when you encourage the discouraged, when you lift people up as everyone else is pushing them down, your actions touch the heart of God in a very special way.

Are you sensitive to the needs of those around you? When you make it your business to befriend and help God’s children—His sons, His daughters—by wiping their tears or lifting them when they are down, be prepared: You will not be able to outrun the goodness of God.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the people You have placed in my life and the special role You have given me as a friend. Thank You that You can take my words of encouragement and bring healing and renewed strength. Help me to see who I can befriend and lift up today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

According to the Spirit

Today's Scripture

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1, 4, NIV

Too many people go around feeling bad about themselves. When they sin and make mistakes, instead of receiving God’s mercy and moving forward, they listen to the voice of the accuser. That voice constantly rails at them about their mistakes, their blown diets, their temper tantrums, and their shortcomings. After so long, they are weighed down with guilt. The enemy’s goal is to deceive them into living condemned.

The last four words of today’s Scripture are so important. When you sin and make mistakes, if you are in the flesh, you beat yourself up. You feel guilty and unworthy. You live depressed and defeated. But choosing that response will leave you on a dead-end street. Instead, embrace the Spirit and say, “Yes, I made mistakes. It was my fault. But I know the moment I repent of my sins and ask for forgiveness, God will forgive me and forget my sins so I can move ahead. Jesus Christ paid the price for my sins and failures two thousand years ago on the cross at Calvary. I am redeemed. I am free.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I am forgiven. Thank You that I am redeemed by the blood of Your Son. Thank You that the price for my sins has been paid once and for all. I receive Your love and forgiveness and refuse to live under guilt and condemnation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Live in Amazement

Today's Scripture

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6, NIV

How alive are you today? Are you passionate about your life or are you stuck in a rut, letting the pressures of life weigh you down, or taking for granted what you have? You weren’t created to simply exist, to endure, or to go through the motions; you were created to be really alive. You have seeds of greatness inside. There’s something more for you to accomplish. The day you quit being excited about your future is the day you go from living to merely existing.

We all have seen God’s goodness in some way. We know it was His hand of favor. Don’t let it become ordinary. We should live in amazement at what God has done. Do you have healthy children, people to love, a place to work? Do you realize your gifts and talents come from God? Do you recognize that there are miracles all around you? Don’t take them for granted. Don’t let what was once a miracle become so common that it’s ordinary. Fan your flames. Stir up your gifts.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your goodness in my life, the amazing things You have done. Thank You that You are breathing new life into me at this very moment. I am shaking off the blahs, fanning the flames, and stirring up my gift, and I believe You are restoring my passion. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Stick with It

Today's Scripture

As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20, NLT

Joseph was a fine, upstanding young man. When he found out that Mary was pregnant, he was upset and humiliated. But because he was honorable and wouldn’t expose her to public disgrace, he determined to divorce her quietly. It’s significant that the angel had to come to Joseph and say, in effect, “Stick with Mary. I know it looks wrong. I know it doesn’t make sense, but what you think is wrong is really the purpose of God. Stand strong. You’ve been equipped and empowered for this season.”

What you’re facing at times may be unfair, but those wrongs are not random; they’re strategic. If it’s a big wrong, there’s a big right in your future. Now do your part and stick with it. God is in control. You may be on a detour, but it’s a divine detour. God is ordering your steps. He hasn’t failed you in the past, and He’s not going to start now. Keep going through the wrongs with a good attitude as Joseph did, and you’re going to see the plan of God unfold.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have the power to take what looks and feels like wrongs and make them detours. Thank You that You are directing my steps and working out Your purpose for my life. I’m going to stay in peace knowing that no one and nothing can stop Your plan. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Too Wonderful for Words

Today's Scripture

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16, NIV

Beyond the Christmas lights and presents, beyond the music and great food, God reminds us of the most wonderful gift that has ever been given…this gift is Jesus. The babe in the manger. The Savior of the world, who brought the promise of unconditional love, unending hope, and eternal life to every person who believes in Him. The apostle Paul was so overwhelmed at the thought of all that God has given us that instead of trying to put it all in words, he simplified it this way: “Thanks be to God for his Son—a gift too wonderful for words.”

Jesus is God’s perfect, indescribable gift. And the amazing thing is that not only are we personally able to receive this gift that is too wonderful for words, but we are able to share Him with others today and every day. We need to make sure our hearts are ready, both to receive Christ’s love and to extend it to others. This is what Christmas is all about.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your amazing love and the indescribable gift of Your Son Jesus, who is too wonderful for words. Thank You for the gift of eternal life and the unending hope I find in Jesus. I receive Your love right now and look forward to sharing this gift with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Reverse the Order

Today's Scripture

“And note this: Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.” Luke 13:30, NLT

Some people live with a victim mentality or a lack mind-set, always feeling as though they’ll never get ahead, nobody gives them the time of day, they’re the least important. But our lot in life is to excel, to be the head and not the tail. You may be the tail now, but a great reversal is coming. God has ways of shifting things in your favor. Good breaks, divine connections, and favor will catapult you to the front.

Now you don’t have to strive, manipulate people, or force doors to open to make this happen. Just keep honoring God, doing the right thing when it’s hard, being good to people who are not being good to you. Keep praising God. Do your part, and God will do His part. Promotion doesn’t come from people; it comes from the Lord. The God we serve knows how to reverse the order. You’ll go from the back to the front, from being overlooked to being honored, from struggling to succeeding. It may not have happened yet, but your reversal is already on the schedule.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the reversal and favor You’ve already set up on the schedule for me. Thank You for the promotion, the connections, the healing, and the good breaks that You’ve already ordained to come across my path. I believe that You are orchestrating everything around me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Give What You Have

Today's Scripture

Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. Matthew 14:16–17, NIV

Thousands of hungry people out in the middle of nowhere, and Jesus tells His disciples to give them something to eat. Impossible. But God will never ask you to do something and then not give you the ability to do it. When Jesus heard the disciples’ excuses, He said, in effect, “You’ve told me all about what you don’t have. All I want to know is what you do have. Don’t sit on the sidelines of life intimidated, thinking you’re unqualified. Put your life, your dreams, your goals, and your talent into My hands and let Me multiply it.”

Compared to what you’re facing now—the financial difficulty, the medical problem, or the size of your dreams—what you have may seem small. You could easily be intimidated. But God is saying, “Just give Me what you have.” If you be the best you can be right where you are, living with confidence, believing that God is breathing in your direction, then God will do for you what He did for the hungry crowd. He will take the little and turn it into much.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can give You my dreams and goals, and You will do something great with them. Thank You that You take the loaves and the fishes in my life and multiply them into something extraordinary. I gladly put my gifts and resources in Your hands today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
