Distinguish Yourself

Today's Scripture

But Daniel, brimming with spirit and intelligence, so completely outclassed the other vice-regents and governors that the king decided to put him in charge of the whole kingdom. Daniel 6:3, MSG

Notice in today’s Scripture that it doesn’t say God distinguished Daniel and he got promoted. It says Daniel distinguished himself by completely outclassing the other leaders. That’s what happens when you honor God and have an excellent spirit as Daniel did. You don’t compromise. You don’t just go with the flow and do what everyone else is doing. When you have an excellent spirit, God will give you unprecedented favor, creativity, and ideas so that, as with Daniel, you will stand out in the crowd. In humility, you will outclass those who don’t honor God.

My question is, Are you distinguishing yourself and not waiting for God to do it? Are you doing more than you have to and improving your skills? Examine your life. We all have areas in which we can strive for excellence, whether it’s how we treat people, how we present ourselves, or how we develop our skills. You are called to be a cut above. You have excellence inside. It’s who you are. Now do your part and be disciplined to bring out your excellence.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You didn’t make me to just go with the flow and do what everyone else is doing. Thank You that I can commit myself to striving for excellence in all I do. I believe that as I honor You with my choices, You will cause me to stand out and shine for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Take Time Every Day

Today's Scripture

By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. Psalm 41:11, ESV

Today, look back over your life at all those places where God has done unusual, uncommon things that showed He delights in you. Don’t take them for granted. They are a big deal. God gave you breath to breathe for today. He woke you up this morning. He’s the One who sustains you. He protects you from things you know nothing about. You’re still standing in spite of the disappointment, the loss. You’re still healthy, still blessed. If it had not been for the goodness of God, where would you be?

You may have been under attack in your health, but the enemy couldn’t finish you off. You may be up against some big obstacles, but God is saying, “Am I not the God who parted the Red Sea? Am I not the God who closed the mouths of lions? Am I not the God who has brought you this far, who has protected you, promoted you, favored you, and made ways where you didn’t see a way?” Take time every day to thank God for what He’s done.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the history I have with You and for every time You have not allowed the enemy to triumph over me. Thank You for all the times when You’ve shown me that You have me in the palms of Your hands. By this I know that I will triumph today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Sowers of Discord

Today's Scripture

I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. Romans 16:17, NIV

Be careful of people who try to stir you up. It should be a red flag when someone comes and starts pointing out everything that’s wrong. You have to consider the source. They are constant alarmists, always blowing things out of proportion, knocking your boss, telling you what’s wrong with your spouse, pointing out problems in your church. Don’t take that bait. They’re sowing discord. They’re trying to poison your spirit. Most of the time, they don’t even know all the facts. The Scripture tells us to be peacemakers, not troublemakers. That’s someone who wants you to get bent out of shape, and then they’re quick to give you advice about it. They always have the answers.

If you keep listening to them, you’re going to live wrought up, stressed out, on edge. If you dwell on what they’re saying, thinking of all the negatives, you’ll end up sour, frustrated, and angry. Do yourself a favor. Tune them out. Quit letting them control you. “What if they get upset?” They’re already upset. Let them be upset by themselves.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for such a clear word of warning to be careful about the people I allow to influence me. Help me to honestly evaluate my relationships and make changes where there’s discord. I will not allow them to control me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Develop Your Character

Today's Scripture

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. James 1:3, NLT

Too often we put conditions on God and on our prayers. “God, I’ll be happy if my boss moves to the backside of Mars. When you get him out of my life, I’ll have a good attitude.” Have you ever thought that God is using that person to grow you up, to develop your character, to teach you to love those who are not so lovable? Instead of saying, “God, get me out of this situation,” I’m asking you to pray, “God, come into this situation. Help me to have a good attitude. Help me to do the right thing when the wrong thing is happening.” It’s very powerful when you can say, “God, if this person or situation never changes, thank You that You’ve given me the strength to overcome, the power to be happy in the midst of difficulties. I’m not going to let this person, this sickness, or this injustice to take my joy.” Now you’re growing and coming up higher. Sometimes God is waiting for you to pass the test, then He’s going to bring you out.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are worthy of my unconditional trust. There are things in my life that I don’t understand, situations I want to see changed, people who I’d like to get away from, but even if they never happen, I’m still going to trust You. I gladly leave these matters in Your hands. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Extend Your Dominion

Today's Scripture

The LORD will enlarge your kingdom beyond Jerusalem, and you will rule over your enemies. Psalm 110:2, NCV

Jerusalem was the home of the Israelites. They were used to having protection, favor, and blessing there. That was normal. But God said, “I’m about to do something unusual, out of the ordinary. I’m going to increase you beyond what you’re used to. I’m going to take you beyond what you’ve seen in the past. I’m giving you new ground.”

God is saying that to you. “I’m about to extend your dominion, extend your income, extend your influence, extend your wisdom, extend your talent, extend your anointing.” You’ve been blessed in the past, but you haven’t seen anything yet. God is about to enlarge your territory. You don’t have to make it happen. Just keep honoring God, keep Him first place, and He’ll make things happen that you didn’t see coming. He’ll take you to levels that you’ve never imagined. You’ll have unprecedented favor to not only defeat what’s defeated you in the past, but you will rule over it. Get ready for freedom, get ready for abundance. Keep praising, keep believing, keep expecting, and the Lord is going to extend your dominion.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are a more-than-enough God, and You want to extend my dominion with unprecedented favor. Help me to enlarge my vision of what You can do and start living with a victor’s mentality. I declare that I am taking the limits off myself and You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Grateful for the Partial

Today's Scripture

But Jesus said, “You feed them.” “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. Luke 9:13, NLT

When Jesus needed food to feed five thousand men plus their families, the disciples brought him five loaves of bread and two fish and said, “This is all we have.” Jesus could have looked up and said, “Father, are You kidding? Is this what You expect Me to use to feed this multitude? ” Instead, He saw it from a different perspective. His attitude was: “Father, I could have nothing, but thank You that You blessed Me with this small amount.” He saw it as a partial victory. Because He was grateful for the partial, God released more.

Are you complaining about the partial in your life, or are you celebrating the partial? Are you so focused on your flaws and how far you have to go that you’re taking for granted the small victories along the way? Find the good in right now, in the progress you’re making, and thank God for the improvement. It may be small but that’s okay. When you celebrate partial victories, that’s what gives you the strength and encouragement to keep going on the way to total victory.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and love and mercy in my life. Thank You for the partial victories that You have given me, and I know that You are working to bring them to completion. Help me continue to be grateful and see every promise fulfilled. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Because of His Mercy

Today's Scripture

He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning. Titus 3:5, CEV

Before Saul became the apostle Paul, he was the worst persecutor of the early church. He went around having believers arrested and put in prison. Of all people, he didn’t deserve God’s mercy, but God doesn’t give us what we deserve. We deserve the consequences, we deserve judgment, but God gives us mercy. He even knows how to make miracles out of our mistakes as He did through His transformation of Saul into an apostle.

The accusing voices will tell you, “You’re done. It’s your fault. You know you weren’t supposed to do it. You pursued the wrong thing and you just have to deal with the consequences.” No, God is so merciful that He’ll take your wrong and not only forgive you, but He’ll clean you up as well as your mess. It would be easy to live guilty and under condemnation, to not expect anything good. Stay in faith. God has mercy for that mistake. He can make a miracle out of that mess. He did it for Paul, and He can do it for you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, and that includes me. Thank You that all the things that could have disqualified and kept me undeserving were wiped away in Your mercy. I declare that I am forgiven, and I’m moving forward in victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Pass the Test

Today's Scripture

But while Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. Genesis 39:20–22, NIV

Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, then falsely accused of a crime and put in prison. At some point you would think that Joseph would be so discouraged that he would give up on the dream God gave him, but he kept doing the right thing. He so excelled in prison that he was put in charge. God was testing Joseph to make sure that he had the character, the integrity, and the humility to lead the nation. Joseph interpreted a dream for a fellow prisoner when he could have said, “Go away. I have bigger problems than you.” Being unselfish led to his interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, which led to becoming the prime minister of Egypt. The dream came to pass through years of testing.

The challenges you face aren’t random. That’s God giving you an opportunity to grow through it, to develop your character and integrity, to prove to Him that you can handle the future He wants for you. How you go through these difficulties will determine whether you get stuck there or whether you come out better.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and that You have a way of making all the detours and dark twists in my life to finally work to my advantage. Thank You that every test of my faith is preparing me to go higher and to increase me. Help me to be faithful and grow through it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

At His Feet

Today's Scripture

But she came and, kneeling, worshiped Him and kept praying, Lord, help me! Matthew 15:25, AMPC

In Matthew 15, a Canaanite woman came up to Jesus and cried out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me. My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” But the Canaanites worshiped idols rather than Jehovah, and Jesus didn’t answer her. When she persisted, He told her that He was only sent to help the Israelites. She didn’t qualify. But when she said, “Son of David,” she was saying, “I know You’re the Messiah for the people of Israel. I know I’m outside the family and have no rights, but I’m asking You to make an exception for me.” Then she fell down at His feet and started worshipping and praising Him. Her praise drew Him in, her great faith overcame, and He healed her daughter.

You may have a dozen reasons why you feel you don’t deserve God’s goodness. But no one deserves His goodness for any reason. Just go to God in praise, thanking Him for His grace, bragging on His greatness, and He will do what you know you don’t deserve. Turn up your praise and watch Him show out His goodness.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that just as You healed this Canaanite woman’s daughter, You can do the impossible in my life. Thank You that I can bring the fullness of my praise to You. Help me be bold to ask You for the big things only You can make happen and to release my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Remember

Today's Scripture

“Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you.” Exodus 20:24, NLT

God says He will bless you when you build altars, when you’re always thanking God for what He’s done, remembering His goodness, talking about how He’s made ways where you didn’t see a way. You’re there to express your gratitude, but when you’re at the altar, God says, “I’ll be good to you.” This begs the question: Are we not being blessed because we’re not building altars? Are we not seeing favor because we’re not acknowledging God’s goodness?

My challenge to you is to look back at the great things God has done in your life and build altars that recognize His goodness. You’ve had times when you saw the Almighty God at work, doing what only He can do. Remember the moments when He made it clear: “Am I not the God who healed you, freed you, promoted you, sustains you?” If you build your altars of thankfulness, I believe and declare that you’re going to see God do things you’ve never dreamed. Doors are about to open supernaturally. Healing, provision, and restoration are on the way.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the history I have with You and for the goodness You have shown me over and over. Thank You that I can remember every victory and great thing You’ve done for me and build altars of thankfulness. I declare that I am receiving Your blessing even now. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
