Granted Favor

Today's Scripture

“You have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit.” Job 10:12, NKJV

The Old Testament character Job went through a difficult season. Everything was going great when the bottom dropped out. He suddenly lost his children, his business, and his body was covered with painful boils. His friends told him it must be because he had sinned. What’s interesting is that Job honored God and lived a life of excellence. Job had good reasons to be negative and bitter, but in the midst of the difficulty, he was saying, “God, You have given me favor in the past, and I know favor is coming.” He didn’t make a judgment based on one season, but he kept declaring God’s favor. When he passed the test, he came out with greater possessions, health, and joy.

If you are in the middle of a difficulty, do as Job did. Don’t talk about how big your problem is, talk about how big your God is. Dare to declare His favor. Dare to declare, “I am blessed. I am healthy. I am strong. I am more than a conqueror.” Prophesy your future. Believe that you are coming out better.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that no matter what I go through, You are my redeemer and my vindicator. Thank You that You grant me life and favor and can bring me out of difficulties better off than I was before they showed up. I believe that You are in control in the tough times. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Bless Your Enemies

Today's Scripture

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1, NIV

For several years before David became the king of Israel, King Saul had pursued him in the wilderness, trying to kill him. Yet David remained loyal to Saul and refused to try to pay him back. Fast forward years ahead to when King David was in his later years, enjoying the amazing success and favor God had given him and asking today’s Scripture. You can imagine his men saying, “David, have you forgotten that Saul was your enemy?” David was saying, in effect, “In spite of what he did, I want to bless anyone left in his family.” No wonder David was called “a man after God’s own heart.”

Jesus says we are to love our enemies, do good to and bless those who hate us, and pray for those who mistreat us. Will you love somebody who hasn’t been good to you? Will you let go of the anger, the resentment, and the bitterness and bless and be good to them? When you do, you’re the kind of person whom God can entrust with greatness and use for His highest purposes.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the mercy and forgiveness and protection You have shown me when I’ve done wrong. Help me to do good and to bless those who have done me wrong. I am leaving them in Your hands and giving them the grace that allows for change. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In the Day of Trouble

Today's Scripture

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Psalm 50:15, NKJV

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with anxiety over a trouble that we’re facing, what might happen. At other times, we’re anxious over past mistakes we’ve made, regrets that come back to haunt us. Those can become lingering worry, lingering anxiety, that the enemy will try to convince you will never go away and keep you in fear and depression.

Don’t be complacent. Don’t just accept it and say, “My anxiety is high today. My depression is really bad.” No, don’t take ownership of it. It doesn’t belong to you. The moment you say “my,” you’re inviting it in and giving it permission to stay. Instead of inviting it, you need to start casting it away. See that anxiety as foreign, as not welcome, and as temporary. If you call upon the Lord, He will give you the strength you need until the deliverance comes. Every morning you need to call. “Lord, thank You for strengthening me today. Thank You that anxiety cannot stay in my life. I am a temple of the Most High God. Anxiety, you are on foreign territory. You are not welcome here.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can literally call out to You in a day of trouble, knowing that You will deliver and protect me. Thank You that I can invite You into my circumstances and receive the strength I need to overcome. I am casting any anxiety away and calling on You for deliverance. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

He Stills the Storm

Today's Scripture

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. Psalm 107:29, NIV

When you look back over your life, you can see storms of trouble that came against you. Some were bad breaks that had nothing to do with what you had done. Some were unfair, when you were left out or mischaracterized and made to look bad. Other times you tried to step up to a new level, you tried to set a new standard for your family, but opposition you had never faced came out of nowhere. There are forces of darkness that don’t want you to take new ground. When the enemy sees you start to make progress, he’ll send the storm, the waves and the winds, but they cannot stop what God has ordained for you. That’s when God will step up and say, “Peace, be still.” He controls the winds. He has the final say. He pushes back and silences the forces of darkness. What’s come against you is not a sign that you’re stuck; it’s a sign that promotion is coming. You’re about to see things change in your favor, releasing breakthroughs, healing, and abundance to move you into your purpose.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for stilling the storms that are sent to stop my future and for coming to me when the waves were threatening. Thank You that difficulties cannot stop what You have ordained for me. I believe that You are pushing back the forces of darkness and bringing me through. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Extraordinary Seed

Today's Scripture

Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7, NKJV

Every time you’re obedient to what God says, you’re sowing a seed. When it’s difficult, when you don’t understand it, when you’re uncomfortable, but you do it any way, you’re sowing an extraordinary seed. You’re going to reap an extraordinary harvest. When He asks you to walk away from a friend who’s pulling you down or to give up a bad habit that’s ruining your health, He’s not trying to take something from you. He’s trying to get something better to you. When He asks you to forgive someone who hurt you, He’ll give you beauty for ashes and make you whole.

When He shows you to take a step of faith when you don’t feel qualified, He’ll give you a new beginning. Don’t try to figure it out, don’t overanalyze it, just do what you know God’s asking you to do. The obedience activates God’s power. If you trust Him and do what you know you need to do, you’ll reap a new level of your destiny. When you sow that extraordinary seed, you’re going to see God’s favor in extraordinary ways.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for speaking through Your Word and for giving me an inner ear to know right from wrong and what the best path is. Help me to be sensitive to Your still small voice, to hear it with clarity, and to be quick to obey. I believe that I will reap an extraordinary harvest when I obey. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Desert Bloom

Today's Scripture

…for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Corinthians 16:9, ESV

if you’ve ever seen a desert bloom with a wide variety of wildflowers, it can be an awesome sight. The blossoming occurs when high levels of rainfall reach and germinate seeds and bulbs that have been in a dormant state. While excessive spring rainfalls often cause flooding and damage, the resulting flowering desert can be phenomenal.

The apostle Paul says we should never let the rains of adversity to fool us. There may be flooding now—someone walked away, disappointment, a contract fell through, sickness—but the rain is necessary. There are seeds in you that will only open up by going through excessive rain. The rain seems like a setback, but it’s setting you up for greater levels. You’re tempted to get discouraged and give up, but on the other side of that difficulty is favor that you’ve never seen. Get ready. God is setting you up to blossom, to flourish, to see new growth and greater favor. You’re going to see God do what only He can do. Your best days are still in front of you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the gifts and talents and seeds of greatness You have given me. Thank You for every door of opportunity You open for me, and that adversity is only a sign that You are about to do something amazing. I believe that You have the final say. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

All Things

Today's Scripture

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13, NKJV

the apostle Paul says that we have the power of Jesus Christ to strengthen us to do all things. It’s a power so strong that death couldn’t keep Jesus in the grave. It’s a power so strong that a teenage shepherd boy defeated a giant. It’s a power so strong that prison doors opened for Paul and Silas. It’s a power so strong that the Red Sea parted before the people of Israel. That’s the power that’s in you.

Now here’s the key: How you see yourself will determine whether you experience this great power. If you think weak thoughts, such as, “This problem’s too big. I can’t accomplish my dreams. I’ll never break this addiction,” then you are canceling out that power. You have to get in agreement with God. You are a son or daughter of the Most High God. You are strong, confident, anointed, and favored. You can set new standards for your family. You can defeat the cancer. You can break the addiction and put an end to the dysfunction. It may have stopped some people, but not you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for designing me to receive Your strength for every pressure that I will ever face. Thank You that You have already equipped me with power to overcome opposition and outlast adversity. I declare that I am strong and can do all things through Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Come and Follow

Today's Scripture

Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. Luke 5:10–11, NLT

In today’s Scripture, Peter had been so awestruck by a net-breaking catch of fish after he obeyed Jesus’ word that he fell at Jesus’ feet and said, “Lord, please depart from me. I’m too big of a sinner to be around You. I’m not worthy of Your favor. I’ve lived a rough life and use bad language.” But God was showing us that His blessing is not based on our performance. We don’t deserve His favor, healing, freedom, or mercy. We can’t earn it. It’s the gift of God to be received by faith.

I love Jesus’ response to Peter’s reasons to not accept it. He said, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” Beyond the gift of fish, Jesus offered Peter the opportunity to be His disciple. He was saying, “You’re forgiven. You’re worthy. Accept this gift and I’ll make you a history maker.” No wonder Peter left everything and followed Jesus. As with Peter, you may not feel qualified, but don’t let fear or doubt keep you from receiving the greatness God has for you. It’s His gift.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for not just bringing me net-breaking blessings but for calling me to come and be Your disciple. Thank You that Your blessings are not based on whether I am worthy enough to deserve them. I will not let fear keep me from receiving all the gifts You have for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
