Scars Are Signs

Today's Scripture

“For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD. Jeremiah 30:17, NKJV

We all have wounds from our past mistakes. Maybe we got off course, gave in to temptation, did things we’re not proud of, hung around the wrong people. The enemy would love to use those failures to keep us living in regrets and guilt, focused on what we did wrong. But we can let them remind us of the grace of God and how He heals our wounds. He wants you to think about His mercy and forgiveness. Don’t try to hide the scars that remain. Those scars aren’t a sign that you’re finished; they’re a sign that you’ve been healed, forgiven, and redeemed. They’re a sign that you’re ready for action. If God was through with you, you wouldn’t still be here. There’s something for you to do. You have an assignment. Somebody needs what you have. Somebody needs your love, somebody needs your smile, somebody needs your gifts. Yes, you have scars. But the scars don’t disqualify you; the scars prepare you to help others. They’re a reminder of how God brought you through, and He’ll bring them through as well.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have borne our griefs and carried our sorrows and by Your stripes we are healed. Thank You that the scars tell the story of what You’ve done in my life and of Your greatness to forgive and redeem. I trust that You will use those scars to help others find healing as well. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Wait Expectantly

Today's Scripture

Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3, NLT

Are you in a waiting season today? You’re tempted to give up on what God put in your heart, to settle for less. No, don’t water down your dreams. Before the promise is fulfilled, you have to pass the discouragement test. When you’re waiting, doubt comes, saying, “It should have happened by now. You’ll never get well, never meet the right person, never see your family restored.” This is when many people get discouraged and miss their miracle, thinking that God has forgotten about them.

What you do while you’re waiting will determine whether you see the promise. It’s not enough to just pray in faith. You have to wait in faith, wait knowing that God is working, wait expecting it to show up. Every time doubt comes, turn it around and say, “Father, thank You that everything You promised is coming—healing, breakthroughs, abundance.” Dig your heels in and have some holy determination. Your attitude should be: “I will not give up. I will not let people, delays, circumstances, or bad breaks talk me out of what God put in my heart.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that everything You’ve promised me will be released in my life because You are faithful. Thank You that You hear my prayers and that the answers are on the way. I am looking for Your goodness and believing for Your favor today. I will not give up. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Release It

Today's Scripture

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8, NIV

It’s easy to be bitter because you had a bad break or somebody walked out on you, but bitterness is an impurity in the heart. Why don’t you release it so it doesn’t infect the rest of your life? Don’t let a disappointment, a divorce, a layoff, or a loss poison your future. You may be worried about your health or finances, but worry is an impurity that keeps you from seeing God. You have to release it. You may be angry because someone lied to you, but that’s an impurity you need to remove by forgiving the person.

Are you holding on to impurities? Are you jealous, sour, or discouraged? The problem is that if you’re holding on to infections, there’s no place for the good things God wants to fill your life with—the joy, peace, confidence, creativity, contentment. Because we’re not emptying out the impurities—the regret, anger, bitterness, jealousy, worry—we’re not living blessed and excited about our future. If you get good at releasing impurities every day, you’ll be strong, vibrant, full of faith and joy.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can have a pure heart and see You today. Thank You that I can release any worries, any doubts, any guilt and bitterness and flush them out of my life. Help me to empty out any impurities, forgive whatever needs forgiving, and let go of the past. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Let the Poison In

Today's Scripture

Those who hate you will be clothed with shame. Job 8:22, NKJV

It’s easy to get upset and try to set the record straight when someone is talking behind your back, trying to make you look bad, spreading rumors on social media. Some may be saying hurtful, critical things to try to make you feel small, unattractive, not good enough. Don’t let the negative chatter get inside you. There will always be people who are jealous, envious, bullies, haters. Not everyone is going to like you or be for you. Some will jump on every fault and treat you badly. Don’t let that poison in. Let it go. If you keep thinking about it, reliving the hurt, dwelling on what they said, it’s going to contaminate your life.

You don’t have to defend yourself. God is your vindicator. Keep Him on the throne of your heart and He will take care of those who try to bring your down. Just run your race and stay focused on your goals. Keep doing the right thing, keep honoring God, stay in peace, and He will protect your reputation and take care of your enemies.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can shut the door on the negative that comes against me and keep what You have promised and said about me close to my heart. Thank You that You are my vindicator and none of these things need move me. I believe that I will rise above the negatives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Look for the Blessing

Today's Scripture

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4, ESV

David says, “The Lord is my shepherd. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me by the still waters.” We like that, but then he adds, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” He is saying that the same God who leads you by still waters sometimes will lead you into the dark valley—a door closes, a bad break comes, a sudden loss. You may not understand it, but if it wasn’t going to work for your good, God would not allow it.

So don’t fight your valleys. Stay encouraged. When you face tough times, you have to remind yourself that God would not be leading you into that valley if that’s all there was—loss, defeat, too bad but you’re done. No, there’s a purpose for that valley. It’s not to hinder you but to help you. It’s not to hold you back but to push you forward. It’s not to weaken you but to make you stronger. Start expecting new doors to open, new opportunities, new friendships. Look for the blessing in that valley.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when I walk through dark valleys and adversities, You walk with me, and I have no reason to be afraid or worried. Thank You that You are my Good Shepherd and You have purposed the valley to work for my good. I declare that I am resting in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Always Rejoice

Today's Scripture

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4, NIV

When the apostle Paul wrote today’s Scripture, he had already been held in prison on false charges for several years. He’d also survived a shipwreck on the way to prison in Rome. You would think that he would be discouraged, surely he’d be complaining. But he was telling us that even when it doesn’t go your way, just keep giving God praise, keep thanking God that He’s working, and keep being grateful when you could be complaining. Keep thinking victory when you’re seeing defeat.

Happiness is not dependent on what’s going on around you; it’s dependent on what’s going on inside you. What kind of thoughts are you thinking? “I’ll never get well. I can’t break this addiction. I can’t be happy after this loss.” You’re thinking yourself discouraged. If you’re going to live happier, you have to tune that out. You can’t take in negative all the time and stay in faith. Paul added, “Think on things that are of a good report, things that are positive, hopeful.” Our thinking the right thoughts is the key to our happiness.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that no matter what my circumstances are that I don’t have to live discouraged and frustrated and unhappy. Thank You that You have made this day and I can rejoice and be glad in it. I will choose joy because I know You are in control. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Great Calm

Today's Scripture

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39, NLT

We all have dreams and promises from God we’re believing for. We start off excited. We’re sailing along fine, making progress, then a storm arises—an unexpected challenge, a sickness, a breakup, we lose a loved one, a contract we were counting on doesn’t go through. It’s easy to get discouraged and think that it’s never going to happen. But God doesn’t promise something and then change His mind. He doesn’t put a dream in your heart and then take it back. What He starts, He finishes. You may not see a way, but God has ways we’ve never thought of.

Storms come to us all. It might be your health, your marriage, your finances. The good news is that God is in control of the winds. He’s in control of what’s trying to stop you. All He has to do is speak the word and calm the storm. Will you trust Him even though the winds are howling and you don’t see any sign of it improving? God is directing the winds, and He’s going to get you to where you’re supposed to be.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that the winds and waves that I face today cannot stop Your plan for my life. Thank You that my purpose is firmly and securely anchored in You. I believe and declare that the storms cannot defeat me and are pushing me into my destiny. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Mind-Boggling

Today's Scripture

The LORD brought his people safely out from Egypt, loaded with silver and gold. Psalm 105:37, NLT

God told Abraham that for four hundred years his descendants would be enslaved, but afterward they would come out with great abundance (Gen. 15:13–14), which is exactly what happened. As slaves, they had no money, no resources, and nothing looked as though they would leave loaded with silver and gold. But on their way out, God caused them to have favor with their oppressors who gave them their valuables. God promised this many generations before, but it didn’t make sense in that moment.

We can only see a small part of God’s plan. He’s looking back four hundred years, and He’s looking ahead four hundred years. He has some things in your future that are going to boggle your mind. He knows how to provide you with what seems impossible. He knows how to turn your child around, how to restore your health, how to cause people to favor you, how to open doors you couldn’t open. He’s been working for generations, getting you ready for this moment of favor and increase. It’s the hand of God doing things you never saw coming.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for how Your strong hand is working out Your plan for my life. Thank You for the open doors, the promotion, the healing, and good breaks that You’ve already put in place to come my way. I believe that for generations You have been lovingly maneuvering things in my favor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Get Real

Today's Scripture

“When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you.”’” Luke 15:17–18, NLT

The prodigal son wasted his father’s inheritance on wild living, had no money, ended up feeding hogs and eating their food to survive. This could have been the end of the story. But today’s Scripture says he finally got real, quit pretending like everything was okay, took off the mask, admitted his sin, and returned to his father. When the father saw him coming, the father came running, hugged him, forgave him, and restored him to his sonship.

The father represents God. When you take your mask off, He will come running to you. That means you get honest and humble enough to say, “God, I need help with this addiction. I need help with my temper. I need help in my marriage. I’ve made a mess of things. I can’t straighten my life up by myself.” He knows your insecurities, your fears, your failures, you’re weaknesses. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay. When you come to God and ask for His help, for His forgiveness, for His mercy, that’s when He begins to restore you and set you on the right path.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can humble myself and admit my weaknesses, sins, and failures. Thank You that Your power goes to work in me when I stop pretending that I have it all together. I am taking off the masks and asking You to help bring the change I need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Tested and Proven

Today's Scripture

God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Exodus 13:17, NLT

When the Israelites were in the desert on their way to the Promised Land, God didn’t take them the easiest way because they weren’t prepared for war. The longer route with the delays and difficulties wasn’t because God wanted to make their life miserable. He was getting them ready for enemies that would have defeated them. Having to deal with hardships, not knowing what they were going to eat, people coming against them, was all strategic. That was growing them up, making them stronger. God knew they needed that to go into the Promised Land.

The reason you face difficulties, things that may not seem fair, is because God has an awesome future in store for you. That’s a time of testing. Where God is taking you is going to take greater faith, greater strength, greater patience. Every challenge you face is a sign that God is getting you ready for something you’ve never seen. Don’t get sour. Have a new perspective. That’s how you grow. That’s how you come out stronger, more confident, more patient, more loving, more forgiving.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that my faith and trust are anchored to You and Your mighty power at work in my life. Thank You that I don’t have to be moved by the tests and troubles I face because I know that You are making me stronger. I declare that I am coming out better. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
