Chains Fall Off
Today's Scripture
Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! Acts 16:25–26, NLT
In Acts 16, Paul and Silas were in the streets of the city of Philippi sharing the gospel with people. They hadn’t committed any crime, but they were falsely accused of trying to start a riot, then beaten with rods and put in jail. They could have been angry and bitter. That would have been common, but they were uncommon. Instead, they were singing praises to God at midnight in the prison, which the other prisoners could hear. I’m sure the other prisoners thought, “What is wrong with these guys? They’ve been falsely accused and beaten, yet they’re thanking God. They are not normal.” Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, the prison doors flung open, and they walked out as free men. An uncommon attitude led to an uncommon breakthrough.
Instead of being sour because somebody did you wrong, complaining about the disappointment, feeling sorry for yourself because you had a bad break, why don’t you do as they did and be uncommon. Give God praise and know that He will be your vindicator. That’s what brings uncommon turnarounds, uncommon healing, uncommon promotion.
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You are always worthy of my highest praise and that You inhabit my praise. Thank You that You reign over all the circumstances of my life and that You are my vindicator. I declare that I will be uncommon and that as long as I have breath, I will praise You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
