Don’t Give Your Joy Away

Today's Scripture

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails…yet will I rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Habakkuk 3:17–18, NLT

The prophet Habakkuk was facing very difficult circumstances. Everything was down. He could have been sour and complaining, but his attitude was: “I’m not giving away my joy. I’m going to rejoice in the God of my salvation.” Salvation means deliverance. When you stay full of joy despite what’s come against you, God says salvation is coming, breakthroughs are coming, healing is coming, increase is coming, opportunity is coming, victory is coming.

Life is going to throw us curves. There will be disappointments, things that aren’t fair. That’s when you have to put your foot down and make this decision every morning: “I will be joyful today. I will not give my joy away.” Decide ahead of time that you’re going to enjoy that day. When people dump things on you, keep your lid on. Don’t let that get in you. When you’re tempted to get upset and frustrated, remind yourself that you have the power to remain calm. Keep it in perspective. This day is a gift. Honor God by living it gratefully, happy, and to the full.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can rejoice in You, knowing that You are the God of my salvation and that deliverance and victory are on the way. No matter what my circumstances look like, I know that You are greater than my circumstances. I declare that I will not give my joy away. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Pray for All People

Today's Scripture

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 1 Timothy 2:1, NLT

When you believe for favor on others, when you ask God to work in their lives, heaven comes to attention. They may not have the faith, and they may not be living right, but because you’re honoring God and asking on their behalf, God will bless them for your sake. Maybe you’re the one who God’s counting on to stand in the gap for someone who’s way off course. Maybe nobody is praying for that person. Maybe your faith is going to cause that young lady at work to change her life. Instead of talking about her, instead of criticizing everything she’s doing wrong, why don’t you pray for her? Talking about her isn’t going to help her improve, but prayer will break the chains that are holding her back. Make it your mission to pray for her. Take a moment every morning and go to God on her behalf.

Are you praying for others? Life is too short to live self-centered, only thinking about our needs, our goals, our dreams. Use your gift. Stand in the gap. Ask God to bless them.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can stand in the gap for the people in my life who are making poor choices and off course. Thank You that I can cover them in prayer and ask You to be merciful to them. I will make it my mission to pray for them every day and see them reach their destiny. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Community of Faith

Today's Scripture

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!...For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore. Psalm 133:1, 3, ESV

Today’s Scripture says that when we come together in unity as a community of faith, there is a commanded blessing. We come from different walks of life, races, social and political standings. Young or old, rich or poor, when we gather together, we put all that down. We are as one family to worship the God who spoke worlds into existence. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been, the mistakes you’ve made, what nationality you are, who you voted for, what your occupation is. We realize that even though we have differences, we are worshipping the same God. And because there is a spirit of unity, God says every time we come together, He’s going to command a blessing. He commands favor, commands healing, commands joy, commands breakthroughs. Every time you show up, what stopped you in the past will get a little bit weaker. You keep coming together, faithfully week after week, and one day that commanded blessing is going to break every force that’s holding you back. You’re going to step into a new level of your destiny.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the promise that when I am plugged into a community of faith, there is a commanded blessing. Thank You that when we gather in Jesus’ Name, You are in our midst. I declare that I am making it my priority to plant myself in Your house. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s Your Words

Today's Scripture

I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:2, ESV

Your words are powerful. In today’s Scripture, after the psalmist declares that the Lord is his refuge and fortress, he gives a list of the great things that will happen. God will shield you from evil. He will rescue you from every trap. He will protect you from enemies. But seven verses later, it puts a condition on it. “If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you. For He will give his angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.” It doesn’t say, “If you believe He’s your refuge” or “If you think He’s your shield.” No, something supernatural happens when you say it. “God, thank You that You’re my protector. Thank You that You’re my provider, my healer, my way maker. Thank You that You’re bigger than what I’m facing. Thank You that You’re bringing my dreams to pass.” When you say it, the Creator of the universe goes to work.

Now do your part and confidently speak it out. The miracle is in your mouth.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for being my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. I speak it out loud because I know that it’s true and I believe that You will deliver and protect me. Help me to release my faith and declare that my dreams are coming to pass. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What He’s About to Do

Today's Scripture

“The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.” Deuteronomy 28:7, NKJV

When you look back over your history and see how you made it through problems and difficulties, opposition and dysfunction, it was by the grace of God. That was the Most High God fighting your battles. You didn’t overcome that challenge on your own. It’s because you have a protector, a defender, who’s been watching over you. He never sleeps. He’s pushing back darkness, keeping those forces from stopping your purpose. David says, “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” That’s the hand of God.

What has God done for you? All of those victories are a sign of God’s goodness. Sometimes we forget the good things God has done, and we remember the hurts, the disappointments, the mistakes, the setbacks. Don’t make that mistake. Remember what God has done and give Him thanks today. He is bigger than whatever you’re facing, and He will surely defeat it. What He’s done in the past is going to pale in comparison to what He’s about to do.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your greatness and power and how Your hand has been upon my life in so many ways. Thank You for the countless things You have made happen for my good that I could never make happen. I will remember my victories and know that You will do even greater things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Chains Fall Off

Today's Scripture

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! Acts 16:25–26, NLT

In Acts 16, Paul and Silas were in the streets of the city of Philippi sharing the gospel with people. They hadn’t committed any crime, but they were falsely accused of trying to start a riot, then beaten with rods and put in jail. They could have been angry and bitter. That would have been common, but they were uncommon. Instead, they were singing praises to God at midnight in the prison, which the other prisoners could hear. I’m sure the other prisoners thought, “What is wrong with these guys? They’ve been falsely accused and beaten, yet they’re thanking God. They are not normal.” Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, the prison doors flung open, and they walked out as free men. An uncommon attitude led to an uncommon breakthrough.

Instead of being sour because somebody did you wrong, complaining about the disappointment, feeling sorry for yourself because you had a bad break, why don’t you do as they did and be uncommon. Give God praise and know that He will be your vindicator. That’s what brings uncommon turnarounds, uncommon healing, uncommon promotion.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are always worthy of my highest praise and that You inhabit my praise. Thank You that You reign over all the circumstances of my life and that You are my vindicator. I declare that I will be uncommon and that as long as I have breath, I will praise You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Windows of Grace

Today's Scripture

“Let’s go,” they said. “We realize that we have sinned, but now we are ready to enter the land the LORD has promised us.” But Moses said, “Why are you now disobeying the LORD’s orders to return to the wilderness? It won’t work. Do not go up into the land now. You will only be crushed by your enemies.” Numbers 14:40–42, NLT

God had given the Israelites an incredible window of grace to go into the Promised Land, the power to overcome and the strength to defeat the opposition. He promised them victory, but they refused when they saw the giants and fortified cities and turned back into the wilderness. They didn’t realize that window of grace had closed and that if they tried to do it on their own, they would be crushed.

This is why it’s so important to not put off what you know God is telling you to do. God won’t give you the opportunity and not give you the grace to do it. When you feel that urging, that knowing, whether it’s to break a bad habit or step into something that feels over your head, if you keep delaying, the window is eventually going to close. That moment is not going to be there forever. You may feel afraid. Your mind may tell you all the reasons it’s not going to work out. Don’t do like the Israelites. Put your shoulders back, hold your head up high, and step into it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that in the routine of my ordinary days, You open up windows of grace that can change everything. Thank You that You’re orchestrating moments when You empower me to come up higher. I declare that I will step into it and receive the promise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Peace That Surpasses Understanding

Today's Scripture

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7, ESV

If you’re going to live in peace, it’s not going to happen by accident. Every day we have opportunities to get upset, to be worried, to live offended. Life happens. People get on your nerves, unexpected bills come, a friend is rude. If you wait for all your circumstances to calm down and then you’ll have peace, then you’ll quit worrying, you’ll be waiting your whole life. God never promised to keep us from difficulties. He didn’t say we wouldn’t have storms, but He did say He would give us peace in the midst of the storm. He calls it “a peace that surpasses understanding.” That means in spite of what’s going on around you, you can still be at peace. “The medical report wasn’t good, but I’m not going to worry. I didn’t get the promotion. A coworker was rude to me, but I’m not offended. God is fighting my battles.”

You have to protect your peace. You weren’t created to live worried, upset, on edge. You have to turn it over to God and leave it in His hands.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You didn’t create me to live weighed down by the worry, hurts, offenses, and frustrations that creep in and limit my life. Help me to guard my heart and mind and leave issues in Your hands. I declare that I have Your peace that passes understanding. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Sunday Morning Box

Today's Scripture

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1, NIV

David is thought to have written Psalm 63 in the isolation of the wilderness during the difficult years when King Saul was trying to kill him. He used that time to seek God, to draw close to God with his whole being. One thing about being isolated, not having a lot of people to give your attention to, you can turn your attention toward your Heavenly Father. It’s an opportunity to learn to talk to Him and get to know Him. It’s a time to develop a deeper relationship where He’s not just a Sunday morning God, but all through the day, in your thoughts, you talk to God as you’d talk to a friend. God will be as involved in your life as much as you want Him to be. If you keep Him in a Sunday morning box, He’ll stay there. But He wants to be so much more than that. Sometimes with all the busyness of life, with all the people, the activities, we don’t make time for God. That’s a mistake. Make sure you keep Him first place.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can seek You with my whole heart, knowing that I will surely find You. Thank You that I can live my life passionately, with a desire to go deeper with You. I declare that You are far more to me than a Sunday morning God. You are my God every moment of the day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Place of Blessing

Today's Scripture

“Return to your mistress and act as you should, for I will make you into a great nation.” Genesis 16:9–10, TLB

In Genesis 16, when Abraham and Sarah couldn’t have a baby, it was Sarah’s idea to have Abraham sleep with her maid, Hagar. When Hagar got pregnant, rather than be happy about it, Sarah mistreated Hagar so badly that she fled into the desert. The problem was that Hagar left her place of blessing. She had no way to survive in the desert. An angel appeared to her and was saying, “Go back to your place of blessing and serve Sarah. I’m making you into a great nation.”

Sometimes you have to stay when it’s hard, to forgive those who do you wrong, and be good to people who are not being good to you. Being in the right place is better than getting your way. But notice how merciful God is. At times we leave where we’re supposed to stay, or we stay where God wants us to leave. The good news is that God is going to send an angel to keep you from missing your place of blessing. You’re going to hear that still small voice inside, telling you what to do. Don’t ignore it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for being the merciful God who can take my messes and the things I’ve run away from and turn them into miracles when I return and face them. Thank You that Your grace is always there to help me. I believe that You are working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
