How You See Yourself

Today's Scripture

The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the LORD is with you!...Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Judges 6:12, 14, NLT

God called Gideon a mighty hero while he was hiding in a winepress, afraid, intimidated by the Midianite army. God called him to be a deliverer, a history maker, when he saw himself as limited, inferior, at a disadvantage, unable to do it. Gideon started making excuses. His weak, defeated mentality almost kept him from his destiny. After some more encouragement, he finally made this switch and saw himself as powerful.

The question is, how do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as strong, confident, and favored, or as Gideon saw himself? Are you seeing everything else as powerful, but not yourself? One touch of God’s favor can turn around whatever you’re facing. You’re looking at how big your problem is. You need to start looking at how big your God is. He says He’s with you, and He has made you a mighty hero. When thoughts come telling you that you’re weak, not enough, at a disadvantage, just say, “You have the wrong person. I know who I am. I’m a child of the Most High God, and that makes me very powerful.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the strength that rises within me whenever I remember how big You are and what You have done in my life. Thank You for the times You have delivered my mind from the clutter of fears and doubts. I believe that You are making me into a mighty hero. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Mistakes Do Not Define You

Today's Scripture

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. Psalm 86:5, NKJV

The enemy is called “the accuser of our brethren.” He’ll remind you of every mistake you’ve ever made. He’d love for you to live down on yourself, thinking you don’t deserve anything good. He’ll whisper, “You had God’s blessing, but you squandered it. You had His favor, but you mishandled your marriage and didn’t treat your spouse with respect. You mishandled your dream. You got distracted and compromised. You mishandled your talent and wasted your potential. You weren’t focused and didn’t develop what you know is in you.”

That may all be true, but what the enemy doesn’t tell you is that there’s another chance coming. God’s forgiveness and mercy is bigger than your mistakes. God didn’t give up on you because you mishandled what He gave you. He has another opportunity so you can prove to Him who you really are. You’re not defined by your mistakes. You’re prepared by your mistakes. Every failure can teach you something. Don’t live in regrets; learn from your mistakes. Get the lesson out of it so you don’t keep repeating it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that whatever the enemy says about me cannot withstand Your great mercy. Thank You that I am not defined by my mistakes and failures, but I am defined by what You say about me. I am forgiven and redeemed and free from condemnation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When Someone Walks Away

Today's Scripture

Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica….Only Luke is with me. 2 Timothy 4:10–11, NIV

Demas had been a trusted traveling companion of the apostle Paul, sharing in some of the hardships of his journeys. But Demas left Paul sitting in his prison cell and turned his back on the work they had been doing. There will be times when friends whom we’re counting on are going to disappoint us and walk away. It’s easy to get frustrated and discouraged by people who aren’t there for us when we think we need them. Sometimes we end up spending our energies trying to win them over when they’re not going to be won over.

But notice that Luke was still with Paul. You don’t need everyone you think you need. God has already ordained the right people to come into your life to help you reach your destiny. When they’re the right people, you don’t have to play up to them, you don’t have to manipulate and try to convince them to stay. They’ll be for you through thick and thin. They’ll show up when you didn’t ask. They’ll encourage you when nobody else is around. God will send you divine connections.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life to help me move to my destiny. Help me to not become dependent upon their approval or try to get my value from them. I declare that You have ordained divine connections for me just as You did for Paul. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Future Is Covered

Today's Scripture

“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned.” Revelation 11:17, NKJV

Today’s Scripture describes God not just as the God of the past and present, He is the God of the future. He is all-knowing. He knows what you need today and what you’re going to need ten years from now. He knows who you’re going to need. Quit worrying about how things are going to work out and trust Him. God is strategic, and He’s got you covered. Nothing happens by accident. He already knows everything that’s going to happen. The good news is that He’s going ahead of you. He’s lining up the right breaks, the right people, the right opportunities. He has solutions to problems you haven’t even had. The Scripture says that before you call, He’s going to answer you.

Are you living worried, stressed out, trying to figure out how your situation is going to work out? God is saying, “Trust Me. I know where you are, and I know where you’re going. You’re not doing life on your own. When you get to where you’re going, it may be new to you, but I’ve already been there.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the God of my past, my present, and my future. Thank You that before I even call You answer me, before I even pray You already have the answer lined up. I believe that You are going before me and working in ways that I can’t even imagine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Right on Schedule

Today's Scripture

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. Psalm 37:23, NKJV

We’re grateful that God is directing our steps, but the truth is that God is ordering our steps according to His purpose. God will put us into situations and times of testing and times of waiting that we can’t get out of. He also orders our steps into seasons of favor and seasons of sudden increase. You may be in a waiting period. You’ve been doing the right thing for a long time, being patient, keeping a good attitude. God is saying, “Your about to see a suddenly. You’re going to come into a season of growth and abundant fruit.” He’s going to put you at the right place at the right time and thrust you to a new level. Because He orders your steps, it’s not random. He’s precise. He’s detailed.

What you’re believing for may be taking longer than you thought. Quit being frustrated because it’s not happening as fast as you would like. You’re right on schedule, your steps are being ordered. It’s just a matter of time before you see what God has been doing behind the scenes.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You purposefully order my steps in the way that is best for me. Thank You for Your strength in the testing times and the expectancy that at any moment You can turn things around into a new season of abundance. Whether You do it gradually or suddenly, I will rest in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Get Stuck

Today's Scripture

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18, NKJV

It’s so encouraging to know that God is transforming us from glory to glory. But we have to realize that one level of glory may come to an end in a way we don’t expect, so we will take the next step into the greater glory. When God is positioning you for the new things He’s about to do, it might require a door to shut, a loss that feels painful, a boss to keep passing over you for a promotion. Don’t get stuck looking back, trying to figure it out. “Why didn’t it work out? Why did they treat me this way? Why did my business slow down?” Just keep moving forward, honoring God, knowing that it was a necessary ending, that God wouldn’t have stopped it if He didn’t have something better coming.

Are you fighting endings, bitter over what God stopped, discouraged over what didn’t last? What if you knew that it had to happen to get you to step into your next level of glory? What if what looks like a bad break is God leading you into the fullness of your destiny?

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the promise that You are transforming me from glory to glory. Thank You that the steps by which You take me from one level to another are for You alone to decide. I will keep moving forward and honoring You no matter what comes my way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Let Today Be the Day

Today's Scripture

And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. 1 Samuel 16:12–13, ESV

God chose a teenaged shepherd named David to become the next king of Israel. David didn’t come from royalty. His family was poor. His father had no influence in the nation. David had no training or experience beyond the shepherds’ fields. His father hadn’t even called him into the house as a possible choice from among his eight sons. Imagine how David felt when Samuel anointed him and told him that he was God’s chosen one. It didn’t make sense. He knew that if he showed up at the palace, they would have said, “Who is this stranger? He has no qualifications.”

Maybe you feel like David. You know God’s calling is on you, but you’re a stranger. Will you do as David did and believe that you are chosen? Don’t go through life handpicked by the Creator, with seeds of greatness, redeemed and forgiven, but never step up to who you were created to be. Let today be the day you say, “This is new to me, but I’m going to live fully as a child of the Most High God.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that people don’t determine my calling or my destiny, but You do. Thank You that You see my potential, my faithfulness, and my integrity. I believe that You have things in my future that are beyond what I’ve ever asked for or imagined. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Locked Doors Are Not a Problem

Today's Scripture

They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.” Acts 5:18–20, NIV

The religious authorities in Jerusalem thought they could stop the miracles and the great crowds of people who were coming to faith by arresting the apostles and putting them in prison. But God sent an angel to open the securely locked doors, and the apostles continued to deliver the good news despite the opposition.

It may look as though a door has been locked on your health, your dream, your career, your education, or a relationship. That door may have been closed a long time. Every circumstance says, “It’s too late. It’s never going to open.” Just smile and say, “That door is not a problem for God. He can make a way where I don’t see a way. Closed doors can’t stop what He wants to do for me and through me.” You need to get ready. You’re about to see God show out in your life. He’s going to make things happen that you could never make happen. One touch of His favor, one good break, one right person, one contract, one idea, and you’ll be thrust to a new level.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You’re not limited by doors that have been locked for a long time. Thank You that other people and circumstances cannot keep me from what You have ordained for me. I believe that You are opening the right doors, and that You will take me where I’ve never been. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Be a Servant

Today's Scripture

“Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant.” Matthew 23:11, MSG

Sometimes we don’t serve because it seems small and insignificant. But on the way to the big things God has in store, He will test us with small things. You have to first serve where you are with a good attitude. If you’ll excel in that small position, do more than you have to, God will open something bigger. Don’t discount staying late and helping a coworker. Don’t talk yourself out of going the extra mile in your home, serving your family with a glad heart, getting up early, making sure everything is right. Nobody may be saying thank you, and it feels like it’s unnoticed, but God sees your sacrifice. That’s what leads to new levels.

Where you’re serving may feel small, but it’s key to you rising higher. It may not be the main thing God put in your heart, but it’s leading to the main thing. You can’t skip that step and reach your destiny. Success is not an elevator; it’s a set of stairs. God leads you step-by-step. Will you serve even though it feels insignificant?

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Jesus came not to be served but to serve others and give His life as a ransom for many. Help me to be like Him and keep my eyes open for the people and opportunities You bring me to serve and bless with a glad heart. I believe You are taking me higher. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Believe the Forever Lies

Today's Scripture

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 1 Peter 1:6, NLT

God never says that we won’t go through trials, through hardships, through unfair situations. But Peter says that it is just for a little while. He doesn’t say “years from now” that your faith is going to be shown genuine and purified like gold. No, in just a little while you’re going to see God do something awesome in your life. In just a little while your health is going to turn around, your child will get back on course, you’ll overcome the addiction.

Don’t believe the forever lies that the enemy loves to whisper, “It’s going to be years before…”. He’s trying to get you discouraged, doubting what God can do, to where you give up on your dreams. Don’t fall into that trap. God says in just a little while what you’re believing for is going to show up. Keep that playing in your mind. It’s not permanent, but in a little while. That’s how you wait with expectancy for the joy that’s ahead, knowing that in just a little while the God you serve is going to show up.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that the trials I go through are but for a little while, and You have purposed to use them for my eternal good. Thank You that You are the God of all grace and that You will bring me through them to the wonderful joy that’s ahead. I believe that greater is coming. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
