Don’t Hang Up Your Harp

Today's Scripture

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. There on the poplars we hung up our harps. Psalm 137:1–2, NIV

After the people of Judah were conquered and taken into captivity by the Babylonians, they were so discouraged. They used to be joyful and sing about the greatness of Jehovah, but now they just sat and wept over what they lost. They didn’t just lose their freedom; they lost their praise and hung up their harps. When their captors asked them to sing the joyous songs of Israel, they refused. Their attitude was: “After God delivers us, we’ll get our joy back and sing again.”

No, praise is what turns a difficult season around. While you’re waiting for things to change, believing for breakthroughs, the enemy would love for you to get discouraged, to sit around complaining about your problems and hang up your harp. That’s when you need to give God praise more than ever. Praise activates His power. Praise causes angels to go to work. Praise opens prison doors. Praise breaks chains. Praise defeats giants. Don’t hang up your harp. You can praise your way out. Keep the praises going up and you’ll be amazed at what God will do.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are my God and that’s reason enough to never waver in believing Your promises. Thank You that I can sing with joy in whatever season I am in. I am going to keep believing, keep praising, and keep thanking You for what’s on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

He Restores Your Soul

Today's Scripture

Psalm 23:3, NKJV

After King David fell into an adulterous affair, his soul felt broken and wounded. When you fall into sin, when you know better but you do it anyway, it’s easy to live wounded and think you’re too far from God, that you’ve made too many mistakes. You can also be wounded from what someone else did to you. But God can restore your soul. He brings healing from the hurts, the pains of the past, what wasn’t fair, the loss, the heartache. He brings healing from self-inflicted wounds, mistakes you’ve made, regrets you’re living in. He brings healing from anxiety and depression.

If you feel broken and wounded, God is working even now to restore your soul. Get honest with yourself and release the guilt, worry, anger, or jealousy, and then the healing will come. Forces that have held you back will be broken off your emotions, your attitudes, your thoughts. Joy will come. Peace will come. God will do a new thing. He will not only restore your soul, but He will bring you into new levels of fulfillment, abundance, and victory.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when my soul feels broken and wounded, You are the Good Shepherd who restores me. Thank You that if I fall into sin or if someone else has wounded me, You come and rescue me. I believe that You are working even now to fully restore my soul. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Stay True

Today's Scripture

Saul gave in and confessed, “I’ve sinned. I’ve trampled roughshod over GOD’s Word and your instructions. I cared more about pleasing the people. I let them tell me what to do.” 1 Samuel 15:24, MSG

Saul was the first king of Israel. He wasn’t raised in wealth and influence, but was suddenly thrust into a position that he never dreamed possible. He started out doing what God asked him to do, but over time he made the mistake of letting what other people thought, how he would be accepted, influence his decisions. Finally, after God gave him a specific instruction, he failed to fully obey, compromised, and then made excuses before admitting he did it for fear of the people. Because Saul was a people pleaser, he ended up losing the kingdom.

The problem with living image-driven is that you can’t please God and please people all the time. Sometimes God will ask you to do something that’s not popular, that other people don’t understand, that your friends might not accept, that causes coworkers to look down on you. Don’t be a Saul. When you know God has told you something, stay true to your purpose and refuse to compromise. Be more concerned about how God sees you than how people see you. He’s the One who matters.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I don’t have to let other people squeeze me into their mold. Thank You that You speak to me with directions for my life, and Your approval is all that I need. I’m not going to be pressured into compromising what I know is right to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Let God Do It

Today's Scripture

So Haman…robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!” Esther 6:11, NIV

In the book of Esther, a powerful Persian official named Haman tried to push down Mordecai, who was Esther’s cousin. He disrespected Mordecai, tried to make him look bad, then plotted to execute him. But one day the king told Haman to put a royal robe on Mordecai, march him through the streets, and announce to everyone what a great man Mordecai was. Out of all the people the king could have chosen, he specifically chose Haman to honor Mordecai, the very person who was against him.

When someone treats you badly, that’s what can happen when you let God vindicate you. Don’t worry about the boss who’s not giving you credit. You’re not working unto people. You’re working unto God, and He is keeping the records. Perhaps instead of you working for that boss, one day that boss may be working for you. Stay in peace. If you let God vindicate you His way, it will be bigger, sweeter, more rewarding, and more honoring than you can imagine. He will make sure you get exactly what you deserve.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are still on the throne and You are my vindicator when I am treated badly. Thank You that You can bring me out of difficulties better off than I was before they showed up. I am going to stay in peace and let You vindicate me Your way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Forces for You

Today's Scripture

After Herod arrested Peter, he put him in jail and handed him over to be guarded by sixteen soldiers. Herod planned to bring Peter before the people for trial after the Passover Feast. Acts 12:4, NCV

King Herod was against the early church, having already killed the apostle James and now imprisoning Peter. Herod had assigned sixteen soldiers to guard Peter, chaining him between two guards and setting two guard stations and a huge iron gate at the prison entrance to make sure that he didn’t escape. As Herod assigned soldiers to hold Peter back, there will always be people and circumstances that try to keep you behind closed doors. There are forces assigned to try to stop your purpose. The good news is that the forces for you are greater than the forces against you. You may have times when you’re behind closed doors, when you feel like you’re outnumbered, when the odds are against you, but God will do as He did for Peter and open doors that no person can shut. The enemy may have put you behind a door of sickness, trouble, or addiction. You feel chained. There’s no way out. But your time is coming. God wouldn’t have let that door close if He didn’t have a way to open it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You reign over kings and nations, and You reign over all the situations in my life as well. Thank You that people and circumstances do not have the final say over me. I declare that You are greater than anything that comes against me and that I am standing in faith for my door to open. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Build the Kingdom

Today's Scripture

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9–10, NIV

Did you know that your destiny is tied to helping others? Your assignment is tied to building the kingdom. It’s not greedy to want to take your family to a new level. It’s not wrong to want to see your business blessed so you can support the kingdom in a greater way. The key is, Where is your heart? If it’s just all about you, what you can get or how to build your ego, that’s the wrong motive. But when your heart is to honor God with what He’s blessed you with, to bless your family and to be a bigger blessing to others, you can ask for big things and watch what God will do. It’s going to take bold prayers to do the awesome things God has called you to do. You haven’t seen, heard, or imagined what God has in store for you. How is this going to happen? By taking the limits off Him. Start praying big prayers, asking for big things, to make a difference in your community, to leave the world a better place.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when I put You and Your kingdom first and am doing the right thing, You do awesome things through me. Thank You for Your promise that as I honor You, I am also fulfilling my purpose. Help me to live with the right motives and make a difference today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Triumph

Today's Scripture

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13, NKJV

Perhaps the people you grew up around or who you’re with now don’t believe for much and are content to live in mediocrity. You have to be the one to break out of the rut. You can’t let other people put their negative story on you. Don’t let their defeated, limited vision keep you from believing you can rise higher. People are not the author of your story; God is. He called you, He anointed you, and He put the dreams in you. This is a new day. God wants you to go further. He has things in your future that are much greater than you can imagine. Now get in agreement with Him. Quit telling yourself that you’re limited, you’ve gone as far as you can, and you’ll always struggle. No, tell yourself a new story. Have an abundant, victorious mentality and say, “I’m an overcomer. God always causes me to triumph through Christ. I am equipped, empowered, and anointed to become all I was created to be. Lord, thank You that You take pleasure in prospering me.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life, but help me not to become dependent upon them or allow them to put their story on me in a negative way. Thank You for the story of abundance and victory that You’ve written for me. I declare that I will triumph through Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It Is Not Random

Today's Scripture

Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David. Ruth 4:21–22, NLT

If you have read Naomi’s story in the book of Ruth, you know that her life was full of hardships and heartbreak. First, a severe famine caused her and her husband and two sons to leave Bethlehem and move to Moab. Then her husband died, which was followed ten years later by the death of both sons. She and her daughter-in-law Ruth moved back to Bethlehem in poverty, barely surviving, until Ruth met a man named Boaz and they fell in love and got married. A son was born named Obed, who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of David.

If someone had told Naomi during her heartbreaks that her losses were not random and that God was working out His plan, she would have said there’s no way. But God is sovereign. If Ruth, the widowed Moabite, had not come to Bethlehem, she would never have married Boaz. Yet God decided ahead of time that David, the greatest king who ever lived, would come out of their family line. Be encouraged that God can bring great joy out of heartache.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You know best when it comes to the difficulties that come into my life. Thank You that Your sovereign plans are always so much more fulfilling and bigger than my plan. I declare that You are in control, and I believe that something big is coming my way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Right on the Verge

Today's Scripture

When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” John 5:8, NLT

When Jesus was at the wedding in Galilee, He’d never done a miracle, never healed a person, never walked on water, never multiplied food. When His mother told Him that the wine for the festivities had run out, she understood His response that His time had not yet come. But she must have sensed that He was on the verge of His right time when He would step into His ministry, when a new level of favor, power, and miracles was released. Just a short time later, His hour came, and He performed His first miracle and went on to impact the world.

Your time may not have come yet for your healing or your promotion, but it’s closer than you think. There’s about to be a shift from struggling to ease, from barely making it to abundance, from fighting an addiction to freedom, from dealing with a sickness to health and wholeness, from nothing working out to things falling into place, with the right people, the contracts, the resources. You’re on the verge of stepping into a new season of favor.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are enthroned forever and You have set the time for when my hour comes to step into new levels of Your favor and power. Thank You that You will shift things and help me to do what I couldn’t do. I believe that I am on the verge of stepping into a new season of blessing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What the Father Requires

Today's Scripture

“…but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father.” John 14:31, NLT

as Jesus approached the time of the cross, He said the prince of this world was coming but had no power over Him. Then He added in today’s Scripture, “But I will do what the Father requires of Me.” That last part is the key. We’re all going to face attacks, trouble, and opposition. The enemy will come, and he has no power over us, but we have to do what the Father requires. We can’t sit back and say, “Why did this happen? This is not fair.” What the Father requires is that we move forward in faith.

Don’t let fear hold you back. The only tools the enemy has are deception and lies. The only power he has is the power you give him by believing his lies. He’s called the father of lies. There is no truth in him. Don’t believe the lie that a setback or illness is permanent. Don’t water down your dreams. The enemy is defeated. Now get your passion back and go after what God put in your heart.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can guard my heart and keep it free from all the lies and deceptions that try to keep me intimidated and living worried. Thank You that I can ignore the lies and believe the truth of Your Word. I declare that I will obey and do what You require. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
