Science Chic wrote: Can anyone tell me where tomorrow's press conference is being held? I'm finding myself too tired to search and am hoping someone just knows off the top of their head. I'll try to make it, but have my daughter's swim lessons to get to at 10:45. If I can get there, I'll bring a video camera, and I'll record and post the entire thing, not just 15 second snippets.
Thanks all!
10:00 am Kum and Go... that is the official media staging site as of now.
Here is a more up to date map of the incident. It has more information and markers on the map then the previous map. This one is being maintained by the Lime Gulch Fire Incident Command (which means USFS).
I don't know where they got the 5% contained figure. I watched the new video from the Thursday evening 9:00 pm newscast... nothing in that report about 5% containment, Maybe by 10:13 pm they had a containment figure from some source (Fox reporter was at 285/Foxton into the evening, maybe he got the containment info from someone official).
They used a little more footage of the press conference this time in this video.
As of this hour (1:33 am Friday 06-21-2013) the Mountain Area Sheriffs scanner feed is offline. This scanner feed is maintain by a private individual so you cannot be 100% dependent of this feed being online at all times. It's usually operating.
Any handheld scanner that receives in that frequencies range. Most scanners will receive in the 134 - 157 Mhz range... even your lowest cost Radio Shack models. I'm not sure if you'll hear as much info from the State Forest Service. I still want the USFS Incident Command frequencies (it's going to be more than one frequency).
I did find a list of USFS frequencies at RadioReference.com (way down the page at
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=3521
)but I can't seem to hear any chatter on any of those frequencies. I don't know why. Maybe one of the radio enthusiasts on 285Bound can tell us more about the USFS radio bands. I used to be much more up on radio stuff and which frequencies are for what, but I've been slacking in that area.
Where has 285Bound user "jf1acai" been? He/she is the real scanner nut around here.
Here is a condensed and more to the point list of Federal radio frequencies used in a fire emergency... look under heading "National Interagency Fire Center." If you have a scanner that covers these frequency ranges... you can program these into your scanner.

Joann L.,.........Your VALUABLE input is much appreciated.......JMO....the monies, manpower AND the Unhealthiness of our forests
will make "fire season" fast, furious and FREQUENT.....it's my belief that IF structures and people are NOT at risk, they will let the
forest BURN.....too much dry fuel because of the persistent drought.....it has hit CRITICAL mass and manpower can NOT manage
the massive problem. JMO
And remember... this feed is from a private citizen, using their own radio equipment and they are footing the bills to run, maintain and keep the radio in service. Here is a short bio of whoever this generous person is...
This feed uses a RS Pro-197 and a Uniden Bearcat BCD996T digital scanner pair. The receivers are located at Approx. 8000 ft elevation in Evergreen, CO. I am broadcasting Alpha Tags along with the audio. Listeners who use Winamp can see the tags which display the agency, talk group and/or frequencies.
Programmed are the Denver area Foothills Fire Departments / EMS for the Evergreen and Conifer areas including the I-70 and 285 corridors. The Colorado State Patrol District 1a and Jefferson County Sheriff Department are also programmed.
