I do believe that the Republicans were routed during the last presidential election because they lacked conviction of their beliefs and stopped being conservative:
1. eroding of our civil liberties
2. abandonment of legal rights and detainment people indefinitely without charges
3. torture
4. war mongering based upon lies about the level of threat of Iraq
5. created the most centralized government ever (homeland security and ICE)
6. totally secret government claiming national security.
7. huge debt.

The Democrats will be routed in the coming elections because:
1. astronomical government spending
2. destruction of our system of capitalism
3. socialistic programs
4. corruption of the legislative process

The Democrats claimed victory in the last election, not realizing that an alpaca or prairie dog could have won the presidency. The vote was to get rid of the Republicans. In the coming election the Republicans will claim victory because this next vote will be to get rid of the Democrats. Both parties have become repulsive to the American citizenry.

Something has to change! Conservative is NOT Republican. Their brand of politics closely approaches the far left as the Democrats brand of politics closely approaches the far right.

Major Bean

A very smart person told me that it usually is a pendulum. They were right. Back and forth. Obama now has his Katrina with the oil spill. But it is just the same old stuff. People use whatever they can to make it look like their side is right. Katrina was used on Bush and the Oil well on Obama. I just don't see it changing.

Major Bean, I agree with the basic conclusion of your post. Neither side is winning victories, the losers are being kicked out, The 2-party system is not serving America, they are self-serving and have been for awhile.

Social safety net programs are not inherently bad, they are sometimes badly managed, over promised and underfunded, strain the existing private system, and create a dependent class of people who are trapped in mediocrity as they lose benefits with increasing wages. People expect too much from gov't and then wonder later why "govt has failed us".

CG, the pendulum analogy is good. Obama is not up for re-election in the fall though, so the oil mess may not be a factor, they still have time to write the rest of that one.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

Hey, everybody over 65 is a "dependent class of people"- Do you think you're gonna be able to save enough in today's wages to live in tomorrows world? Don't count on it. Nobodies saving, in fact most can't pay their credit cards or keep a roof over their heads right now.

And re-write the bits that have already made them look bad
