A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.
The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and gave him fifty dollars.
What people fail to bring into account is that if you are FORCED to give to the needy and poor then you are not giving from your heart in the way God intended.
And here is another thought. SO you sell everything and give it to the poor. Now they have money and material possessions. Are they then in turn suppose to sell everything they were just given and give their money to the next person who then has to do the same thing? When does it end? In the Bible God wants us all to be blessed with success. Then he wants to see our hearts and how we will help others. Not be forced by the government to give the money to others. That doesn't mean anything and is a totally empty gesture.
No one, not even the government, is forcing you to give to the poor viking, you always have the option to move to a country where there are no taxes, or the taxes don't go to the poor.....I'm sure there is some dictatorship that would fit the bill.

Yes. If they are Christian, they will give what they can.
Currently the government is forcing you to pay taxes for the individual welfare of the poor archer, that's what the welfare program funded by federal tax dollars is all about. The options that you suggested are one option, the other is to stay here and work towards reducing the federal government to its proper role such that it is no longer forcing you to give the fruits of your labor to the poor of their choosing.
Still don't have an answer for the direct quotation of Jesus' words... Got it. Watching you twist into a pretzel to come out with your predetermined conclusion while ignoring facts is an art-form that is truly awesome to behold.
