Autopsy: Drug THC found in Trayvon Martin's system

CNN) -- Trayvon Martin had drugs in his system when he was fatally shot earlier this year by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, according to autopsy results released Thursday.

Martin's blood contained THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to an autopsy conducted February 27 -- the day after the teenager was shot dead.

Toxicology tests found elements of the drug in the teenager's chest blood -- 1.5 nanograms per milliliter of one type (THC), as well as 7.3 nanograms of another type (THC-COOH) -- according to the medical examiner's report. There was also a presumed positive test of cannabinoids in Martin's urine. It was not immediately clear how significant these amounts were.

Zimmerman, 28, is a multi-racial Hispanic man who shot the black high school junior at close range on Feb. 26, and claimed self-defense, though Martin was unarmed. Zimmerman was later charged with second-degree murder, and the killing provoked widespread debate about racial profiling.

Martin's autopsy report also revealed that there was a quarter-inch by half-inch abrasion on the left fourth finger of Martin, another indication of a possible struggle. The teen, who lived in Miami, was in Sanford while serving a suspension for a bag of marijuana being discovered in his possession.

Later today, a trove of documents that are part of the discovery in Zimmerman's trial are expected to be released on a website run by the state's attorney, including 67 CDs worth of documents, video of Martin on the night of the shooting, his autopsy report and videos of Zimmerman's questioning by police.

It's also interesting that while the only wound on Martin's hands were to his left hand, while Zimmerman stated that Martin "pounded" him with his right hand which showed no damage.

Printsmith claimed that based on his experience with martial arts and striking large boards with his fist, that it was probable that Martin caused severe damage to Zimmermans face and scalp without leaving any trace to Martin's hands. My experience on the other hand, that without martial arts training, any severe pounding of the face and scalp of another will leave significant marks on the fists.

Martin was a football player so he might have toughened up his hands.

He quit playing football when he was 14 and worked in the concession stand at the games. Maybe those nachos toughened his hands.
