The stand your ground laws have been passed with significant lobbying from the NRA. Think about it, the more people that have guns and can simply shoot anyone on the street will mean that more people will buy more guns. It's a win win for them.
Now, before anyone jumps my butt and calls me anti gun: We own weapons, but do not see any need to carry them around in public places. We have them for protection at home, living in a rural area and for fun (target practice) <-- at least for hubby, as far as I am concerned, the double barreled shotgun is my defense if I should ever need it. Of course, we've been up here for almost 10 years and have never needed anything. We did shoot a gun once to scare off an overly familiar bear that would not take off when we went out and did our bear dance, but that is the only time we have ever needed to (and even then, it probably could have been resolved in another way).
There is a reason that the military and the police go through much training and testing before they are allowed to walk around with a weapon and even with all that, we still have tragedies involving them shooting people they should not have. The average person doesn't even get that and yet we allow them to walk around in public with a loaded weapon. These types of laws are ONLY going to end in tragedy.
And most police and military are as inept as YOU guys are with a weapon.

I do believe in constant contact with your weapons only a few military and police train regularily with theirs. We train weekly, we respect our weapons, and if there is an avenue for flight vs fight we will take that.
Those that THINK they are 10' tall and bullet proof because of a CCW or other will/must face the outcome of the law, the civil suits, etc.
I reiterate the fact that those speaking against the NRA and other groups are in the dark as far as what they stand for and what they project, and then there are the idiots that bash them but stand for other lobbyists like the insurance agencies etc.

Actually, I get GREAT pleasure from reading posts on a long list of progressive websites I read every day. And you'll note than when I do post from them, they generally give sources for the information and political history that supports the facts. I give so much of a rat's ass about my fellow Americans that I work hard, and give much of my money and my time to defeating any and every conservative wingnut that runs for ANY office.
