If you are at all interested in accuracy JSG - which is a dubious premise to begin with - then you would know that it wasn't I who first indicated that the charge would be manslaughter and that my comments addressed not the accuracy of that statement made by another, but rather the implications associated with a decision to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter.

The tag came about because the original rush to judgement that this is a hate crime committed by a white person against a black one could not be abandoned. The degree of racial tension which can be created from a single incident of minority on minority violence is significantly less than that which can be created when a white person is responsible for harming a member of a racial minority - which is why Zimmerman's "whiteness" remains an important part of the narrative accompanying the story. You never see a black person prosecuted at the federal level for violating the civil rights of another black person, or a Hispanic prosecuted for violating the civil rights of a black person, a black person prosecuted for violating the civil rights of a Hispanic person, or even a black or Hispanic person prosecuted at the federal level for violating the civil rights of a white person. Prosecution for violating the civil rights of another is only brought on a white person for violating the civil rights of a person belonging to one of the minority classes - which is why Zimmerman isn't being referred to as Hispanic by anyone. Team Obama would have a problem courting the Hispanic and Latino vote if his AG prosecutes a Hispanic for violating the civil rights of a black person. That wouldn't play well in the press, which is why the press will not refer to Zimmerman as a Hispanic, and chooses instead to refer to him as a "white Hispanic" or the son of a white father and a Hispanic mother.
"Hispanic" is ethnicity. "White" is race. This is how government HMDA data is collected on mortgage applications, and I believe on other credit apps as well. I'm not making any assertion whether this method is ultimately right or wrong - but that is why Zimmerman was referred to as "white Hispanic". It is also fully possible to be "black Hispanic". BTW, credit applicants always have the option to not provide this data on the application as well.

Personally, just glad to see justice has a chance. If Zimmerman's guilty, he'll be held responsible. If he's innocent, he'll be exhonnerated. I will accept the jury's conclusion.

I was not saying that gang bangers dominate Obama rallies but they weren't very likely to vote for McCain.
I would bet the percentage of racists in the foothills is just about what it is anywhere. There are going to be a certain percentage who move up here to escape minorities, but I don't think it would be significant.

And Hispanics are a federally protected minority class which Obama doesn't want to offend by prosecuting a Hispanic for violating the civil rights of a black person, another federally protected minority class, in an election year. I can promise you that if a Neo-Nazi white supremacist had killed George Zimmerman the same media and other collectivist organizations doing cartwheels to avoid referring to Zimmerman as a Hispanic in the current situation would be singing loud and long about the hate crime perpetrated upon a Hispanic and calling for the feds to bring charges for violating Zimmerman's civil rights.
