Of course, people who put in more effort will be more rewarded and admired, but that wasn't the point of his speech - it was that they can't do it all alone, we all work together to make something even greater.
That was his point? Is that from high school or junior high? No man is an island. Duh.

That's why I wondered if he ad-libbed and seriously screwed up what he was trying to say, or needed to hire a new speech writer (as Nobody That Matters also mentioned). It was a crappy speech.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
Very funny pictures BearMtn! Excellent. I'm forwarding them to a few buddies who have businesses.
IMO Obama blew it big time with this badly worded speech.
In this slow economy the Leader of the US should be saying to small businesses "What can we do to help and how can we get out of the way, and make it easier for you to grow and succeed and create jobs" Not lecturing businesses and trying to guilt them into paying even higher tax rates than 35%.
But I hope Obama keeps it up. And if he is re-elected with a message like this, then we might as well "stick a fork in us" JMO

I could sit and watch out-of-context blather for hours... Maybe you can explain the IN-context $100+ million IRA, and the tax returns that Etch-a-Sketch won't release?
What I always find amusing is that whenever a "progressive" tries to make the case that everyone benefits as a result of government, they always mention the infrastructure projects that the government has invested in - which isn't the source of the deficit spending the government indulges in. Their argument consistently seems to take the form of since the government helped out with the infrastructure, from which everyone benefits, you should be willing to pay a lot more in taxes to fund the individual welfare initiatives of the government that provide political profit for the political class from those who vote for their living.

"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman...and a woman...and a woman..."
