The right of people to rebel against what they feel is an oppressive government is not necessarily illegal.

The US Constitution is silent on the issue of secession. There is no provision in the Texas Constitution (current or former) that reserves the right of secession, but it does state that "Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States" ... not to the President of the US or even the Congress of the US.

Both original and current Texas Constitutions state that political power is inherent in the people and (just as the Declaration of Independence declares) "the people have the right to alter their government in such manner as they might think proper."

Both the original (1836) and the current (1876) Texas Constitutions also state that "All political power is inherent in the people ... they have at all times the inalienable right to alter their government in such manner as they might think proper."

Likewise, each of the united States is "united" with the others explicitly on the principle that "governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed" and "whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends [i.e., protecting life, liberty, and property], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government" and "when a long train of abuses and usurpations...evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." Let the moochers go. Texas receives about 30% more in federal spending that it spends in federal taxes. Plus the billions of dollars that Texas would owe the federal government for federal lands, buildings, highways, military bases, parks, BLM, research facilities, etc.. In fact, letting Texas go would not only save the federal taxpayer a bundle, it would go along ways to paying off the federal debt.

It's time to get rid of the takers.

I'm all for it... But I'd have to renew my Texas passport... I think I still remember how to say "sh*t" with at least 5 syllables...

I like knowing that there are enough people who agree with my political position on the current administration, I don't like the notion that we could be headed for another civil war. The Feds are embedded in every major urban center and have an overwhelming number of Military and law Enforcement personnel and equipment. The States would need to get the jump on the Feds to even have a chance, petitions to secede only bring more attention from the Feds and lead to suppressing those who would rather not be a part of the United States. Got 90 days worth of food stockpiled, more than 200 rounds of a single caliber or gauge of ammo, object to the current administration and its policies? Prepare to wear the label, you are a terrorist and you will be treated as such.

It would be interesting to run some simulations to see how likely it is that those currently aligned with the Federal Gubment would defect and become combatants on behalf of their home states while bringing their Federally provided weapons and tools with them. At the end of the day I still think no state in modern day Amerika will succeed in seceding from what has suddenly become the Peoples Republic of Amerika, the Feds have already eliminated this possibility and will suppress any and every organization that is deemed to be a real threat.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
